Is this gonna be one of those games where there's that one car that's just significantly better than all the others, or is there a good selection of closely competitive higher end cars?
Mentioned earlier in the thread somewhere but I still haven't gotten a device list and it looks like I won't until closer to release. However, based on everything we've seen at the office A8 should work on these devices mentioned. Again, I will definitely post to give a heads up if I find any out anything that is like "Oh hey it won't work on X and Y device." Currently though I haven't gotten any word and probably won't until a day or two before release I believe. Bear/bare (oh jeez, spacing on this one) with me, this is also my first release with Gameloft (woo 3rd week on the job) so I'm still learning the ropes and who I can get juicy info out of!
Of the handful of cars I raced with I was able to place 1st with each one, granted it was against AI, but I personally think it's safe to assume that as long as you have some knowledge and skill with racing games you can be competitive with most cars. Obviously the entry level cars might have a harder time keeping up with the higher tier cars but I think that's something you see in every racing game. For example; you can't win every Gran Turismo races with a stock Golf GTI or something haha.
Awesome. As long as the multiplayer lobby will have some variety in cars rather than everyone using the same (best) car. Right, obviously. Lol. That's what I meant by "higher end".
I've always had a sort of love/hate relationship with Corvettes and wasn't sure about the C7 when it was revealed. Visually, at least. Being a fan of the older ones, I didn't like the edges and the taillights, but it grew on me. I actually really, really like it now. Like, a lot. Both exterior and interior are really clean (although I don't much like the digital guages) and the handling (in real life) is just awesome compared to the previous models, something I've always liked about corvettes and like even more now. It's definitely an improvement and it's awesome. I don't think it's love/hate anymore. I look forward to using it in the game. Especially if they get the sound right.
They sound really nice depending on the car. Some engines you can really hear roar when you speed up and it pairs nicely with the nitro sounds. Also I should note you have options to control how loud (or quiet) you want engine sounds to be so you can really amp them up should you choose to.
That's awesome. What he said: I'll probably end up turning the music off and engine up, as always. What about customization? We know the decals aren't there any more, but how has it improved since A7?
So I asked around because I haven't had as much experience with A7 as I have had with A8 and outside of the decals being removed it's similar but definitely improved so the user has an easier time navigating upgrade options. You still can alter paint, which looks a lot better based on the graphical improvements from A7 to A8 and then also the categories for upgrading the actual parts to the car are in 4 sections. I think it makes the upgrade experience simpler but still will give players a wide array of options. Also there are some user profile customization options that you, the player, can tweak with when it comes to your personal profile. Waiting to hear if that will apply to multiplayer. A8 has been a really good experience for me as someone who is still relatively new to the series, but at the same time, a few of the veterans here who have played through previous Asphalt titles are really excited to continue putting time into it. TL;DR Graphical improvements and simpler UI makes customization a better experience for the player.
You are able to alter parts in the car and that affects tuning. Sorry it was kind of hidden in my walls of text, but it's in there.
I seriously doubt that if the car manufacturers weren't going to let GL apply decals to their cars that they would allow vinyls, rims, spoilers, etc. God I miss NFS Underground... Not sure I like this new performance upgrade system. Even though the system in A7 was complex, I liked the ability to upgrade things like armor/car toughness and nitro speed and duration. Are these still a factor in A8? Also, do the upgrades involve cost/benefit choices, like applying a part that might greatly increase your acceleration but slightly decreases top speed, vs a part for the same slot that does the opposite? Thats the best kind of upgrade system IMO. It gives you a lot of freedom to build the car exactly how you want it.
