is this game better than Shadow Era TGC? I downloaded Shadow Era yesterday since it's free... but it has IAP cards... if this one is better i might hold off on buying SE iap's....
Celeric! You've been wiping my face on the floor. I've learned a lot from playing against a champ like yourself. We'll rematch in a few. Thanks for the challenge! -D
I may not be the best person here to explain this, but I take the liberty to do so, anyway. Shadow Era (SE) and Ascension are very different types of card games. In SE, the player builds his/her own deck of cards and play it against 1 other opponents. But for Ascension, the player does not own a deck, all players (2-4) have the same starting deck, with slightly different starting make-up, and build the deck on-the-fly during the game. To win, in SE means drawing the opponent's hero's "hit point" down to 0 before yours does (There are heroines, but allow me to generalise). As in Ascension, one wins by gaining the most honour points (or simply points) when the game is up. Some SE games like MtG, can grind you for more than an hour, but for Ascension, there is a definite end, my current record is about 20 rounds, but most end at around 14-15 rounds, which lasts no more than 20 minutes straight. Also, note that SE must be play online, and sit through the whole game (or duel if you prefer). But in Ascension, the nature is async so you can either sit though the whole match with your opponents, or stop at any time to return to it later. One more thing: SE is free and I have not paid a dime to enjoy it (cause I am cheap). I rarely play online since I have little "crystal" to pay for those powerful cards and more important, the time thing.
Sorry for the extremely one-sided game kitkeat! Getting Snapdragon turn 1 where your opponent doesn't will 80% of the time (if played well) result in victory. Edit: Much prouder of the second game. Controlled the board and kept discarding your Hedron Cannon. I was always a step ahead of you
no problemmo Camzeee.... always a pleasure to loose to a better player. I'm more heartbroken bout the final game where you swung by the last minute by killing the 7 honor point avatar to nail 8 point Samael.. it's insane.. I thought I had that game.. guuhhhh...
Seriously, you cant just look 4 posts above yours? I mean come on, it's one thing to not look a page back, but when the answer is literally on the same page....
come on man, can't you copy paste the post? I don't want to look for a needle in the haystack... haha, just kidding, I'm sure there were some answers about this subject but I imagined it wasn't in this page, sorry about that.
chill guys... =) its okay. Shadow Era is CCG/TCG (similar to Magic the gathering, Pokemon, Yugioh, etc), Ascension seems to be self contained. You buy 1 set (and/or expansion) then play it off like a regular board game. Somehow, Ascension felt like "drafting" in Magic the gathering to me... everyone shared and "buys" off cards from the same source.
Just bought it as a wild guess.. I love it! I thought it was somethin' like Pokémon or Yu-Gi-Oh but it is a way different. Love the style of the game and the online mode is sometimes really hard =) Im happy.
Hate to sound like a broken record, but what is the scoring system? And what is the mechanism behind the last rounds when all the honor points are gone? I've had games go for a couple of rounds after the points have depleted, and I've had games end the turn the points have been soaked up. GC nickname: rubberfist Always looking for a game.
Since I have to work very late and my iPad is charging, I think I can try to answer some questions. Ascension is more like Dominion than the MtG or SE we know. The players build the deck on-the-fly rather than bringing themselves one into the game. There is no nerfing, there is little concern about balance and well, you don't have to spend a fortune to buy and build a killing deck to win. It is all there. The original CotG is fun on its own but the recent inclusion of Return of the Fallen (which is actually one of the cards and it is not a robot and no it does not transform...) adds the fate system and a lot of fun cards to add variations to game like: "Killing" a monster steals 2 points from your opponent if you have less points and then give you one more; A card which lets you draw 2 extra cards in the next round, if you do not buy any card or kill a monster in that round; Some cards allow the player to buy cards which are already banished into the Void (think of it as the graveyard) and so on. RotF can be played in a standalone manner or mix with the original CotG. And yes, random can be a big factor but those masters who know how to control the Central Row win. (you know who you are, okay?) There is another game which plays like such on iOS is called Battle of Gundabad. I am not commenting on the latter but just compare the number of posts of both threads and you get the idea. As for the scoring: when the pool is drained to zero, the remaining players of the round can still draw points out of it. After the last player of that round is played, the game ends. Say in a 4-player game, if the first player emptied the pool, player 2, 3 and 4 can still play. If player 2 drains it, player 3 and 4 can go. So, if it is the last player of the round who manages to drain the pool, the game ends there. Of course, if you use that card which lets you play one more round during the final round, you can still go for one more while others cannot. As you can see, there is no way the player grinds and it is proven not a winning strategy to grind in Ascension, but there are still time when one can play defensive but not for a long run.
I may be missing something, but is there a way to set up an alert for when an opponent plays and it's my turn?
Go to Settings and then Notifications, there is an entry for Ascension. To be frank, the implementation is not smooth and some time, turns arrive without giving out any notifications.
Well I have been having some really fun games with everyone here lately, been winning some, losing some but I feel my skills are slowly improving Had a bit of a 'Eureka' moment a couple days ago (or a face palm moment depending on perspective ) that has to do with the opening moves of the game. Since the starting decks always consist of 8 apprentice and 2 militia your opening hands (assume no Stone Circle or Askura of Fate scenario for now) will consist of: A. 3 apprentice 2 militia, then 5 apprentice in turn two. B. 4 apprentice 1 militia, 4 apprentice 1 militia in turn two. C. 5 apprentice, then 3 apprentice 2 militia in turn two. The same goes for your opponent! As I said probably a "no sh1t Sherlock" comment from most of you Once I realized that it made planning my opening moves a LOT easier! Thus if a Snapdragon or Black Hole shows up in the opening round and you have 3 apps, you know you can grab it in turn two when you draw your 5 apps, unless your opponent gets the stronger opening hand. I would like everyone to chime in if they wish what their favorite early-game cards are for the price. Here are my choices in no particular order: 5 runes: Snapdragon, Black Hole, Flytrap Witch, Ascetic of Lidless Eye 4 runes: Arbiter of Prepice, Dandelion Witch, Reactor Monk 3 runes: Ahra Sensai, any 3 cost life bound (green) card, Shade of the Black Watch 2 runes: Great Omen Raven, Temple Librarian, Battery Monk, Seer of Forked Path 1 rune: Void Initiate, Lifebound Initiate
You're learning The thing is, there's never a set way. It all depends on the cards on the table. If there's nothing but monsters, grabbing an Arha Templar could be the best move. If there's an All-Seeing Eye on the table, getting a reactor monk, or just storing two mystics could be the way to go. If you get a 5 rune card (other than Tablet!) in your first two turns, it will mostly give you greater odds of winning though.
