epic battle An epic match with Camzee! first time ever that both players obtained over 100 points. Well, at least first for me. good games Camzee..
I guess there are reasons I am afraid of you two, or put it this way, I pay extra concentration when playing against you two (and many others). (This proves Camzee is beatable, btw) Okay, That's it, I have decided to teach my daughter this game when she is old enough. My wifie finds this too complicated. Too bad but she plays Carcassonne btw.
Hoi griffin, camzy is beatable. If mathematics is true ... you can defeat me, I can defeat campy, hence you must be able to defeat camzy too. You just need to pay attention to his moves. With camzy it is clear ... if he is allowed to implement what he has in mind (and by middle of the game it is clear if he did), it is game over. Like our current game, I know I have lost since a couple of turns already (while the one before I knew I had won middle of the game, and I am still sour on the loss before because my son made me end a turn with enough cards to tie and win!!)
FPEX is right. Camzy can be beaten, but you need the cards working in your favor and you have to counter whatever strategy he is implementing. And if the cards are in HIS favor? You can forget it. He's about to crush me by 30+ points in the game we are currently playing. I think he has nabbed every lifebound hero in the deck.
I'm definitely having a great time with the game. Will probably pick up the expansion today. I definitely understand not being able to play all the time, I certainly have meetings and stuff where there may be a couple of hours I can't play. This guy has played a few more rounds but now it's been at least 13 hours since his last play.
You actually need to have a strategy also. Our best games, I mean the ones I enjoy the most (and this is true for all opponents) is when I play sync without the interference of other games. Too often I have messed up because I play 10 games at once async ... mixing them up.Our last game cp. is an example ... I completely confused our game with one with mouton.
my new found potent opponent - Celeric.. hahaha...=) I think I lost some straight games over the past few rounds. 1 thing about the vulture/bird card I've noticed is that, it nabs u point if u can correct guess the top card of your deck, but more importantly, the other ability which I have missed out all these while... ability to draw the card no matter you guessed it right or not. Just discovered this. =)
Camzy is tough all right. I thought I was doing decently in my last game with him, but I still got crushed. LOL. Good win again, Camzy.
Getting a lot of shoutouts, so thought to repay the honor! You guys are great to play against. Definitely remember the epic game with kitkeat. A 117-110 loss. Quite amazing. By the way, best player I've come up against is celeric. If you want a challenge, give him a game. Ascension has an element of luck for sure, but don't give up, you never know when a few lucky turns could swing the game. Banish, banish, banish, move, move, move. I had one game where I shuffled through my entire deck in one turn and finishing with 61 on-board honor. Oddly enough, I feel like playing slowly makes me play better. I like playing Async and not having pressure to move, so I can plan, and develop a strategy for the game. I find that building specific decks (lifebound, fast deck shuffling, banish heavy) is advantageous, and by mid-game, you should never be stuck pulling mystics and infantry. If you do, you stuffed up sometime early game and don't have a platform to launch.
Is anyone else having problems with their games? I have 6 games running, and I keep having games show up with people I don't know! (They are not on my Friends list.) Also, I keep having 2 games show up with you, griffin, and when I delete one, they both disappear!
LOL ... just goes to show you the somewhat random nature of Ascension. I crushed Celeric the last time i played him. Led 40-8 at one point. There's no doubt he's a good player, knows the cards, knows how to prune a deck and keep it moving, etc., etc. And there's no doubt I know those things as well. When two competent players meet, it can sometimes just come down to what pops up in the center row and when it appears. I love Ascension (the game) and I love Ascension (the app), and I think the more-skilled player will usually win. But not always. Sometimes, there's some pretty huge swaths of pure luck in the game.
Celeric is a similar story as you Camzy for me. For every win I have a loss against him (or her). And this is fun. By now the people I always defeat have stopped playing against me, hence ... I am left with people I win and loose, depending on cards and whatever.
Okay, so I have a question. I am a fairly new player, I mean I've only gotten into the game probably like 2 weeks or so ago. And the online games I play have been really mixed in terms of how each player (including myself) wins. That's obviously part of of the strategy. However, I am finding that it is really difficult to keep a good In-game honour to after-game honour ratio. Meaning during the game, in a one on one for instance, I usually get crushed in the race to get in-game honour. Something of a ratio of about 1 to 6. However, I acquire cards like mad, usually forming a good strategy (if I am playing against people a little less fortunate) if my opponent ends up allowing me. If not, I switch strategies and try to improvise. My question is: What is the best way to really go about ultimately winning the game? Cause I usually lose two or three games before winning one online. So my strategy of getting after-game honour with a lot of cards (Usually working around the Enlightened/Mechana combos) doesn't always work. But I don't know the best strategy. So I am asking more attuned and weathered players, what is the best way you get to the finish line?
Okay, I realize I sound paranoid, but I had my e-mail hacked last month, so chalk it up to that... Since I've had two games somehow wind up in my list from people I don't know, does that mean my GameCenter account has been hacked? TIA for any advice, and sorry to clog the thread.
I don't have an answer for you, I would like an answer too. Ive benn playing for about a week and I play like you. I start getting crushed during in-game play and end up trying to load up on cards for post-game points. Is there a way to achieve a balanced approach or really go for broke one way or another?
Ascension can't be broken down into a "this is the way to win" type of post, but it sounds to me like the above quote is your issue. Acquiring is only half the story; the cards also have to make sense for what you're trying to accomplish. It sounds like you've got too many cards and not enough deck movement. If you find yourself almost always drawing the minimum of five cards per turn, then you know your deck is too clogged up. You're totally at the mercy of shuffling at that point. In Ascension, if your deck ain't a-movin', then you ain't a-winnin'.
I guess I could have been a little more specific... When I mean I "draw cards like mad" I typically don't draw things that I don't need, or would otherwise harsh the strategy of what I am trying to do. By turn 3-4 I am usually focused on nothing but getting card draw, particularly from the Blue/Purple (like draw two cards, banish one in your hand) type situations. Mid-Late game, I am definitely moving my deck, often using about 7-11 cards in o ne sitting. I just unfortunately don't move it in the direction of getting In-Game honour. It all seems to be about acquiring cards that work in my favour, and occasionally, gaining that 3-4 power to defeat a monster in the middle that can at least net me a card, or have my opponents discard constructs and shit. The only time I do start acquiring rubbish cards with as high honour value as possible, is when it is down to the last few honour points to salvage, and I know I am not going to particularly run through my discard pile in time.
