There are time I prefer throw away my cards then play the turn or I wish I could not touch the cards on the table. There moment are few (and not in many games), but they can seriously alter a game. In my life before the expansion (and when I was good at it), I won a game by simply blocking the table on poor cards and killing honors with the staff construct. That allowed me to win despite my opponent was building a strong, small and fast cycling deck. I feel Dharta can help in this direction.
I've played nearly 50 games and that occasion has yet to emerge. Getting and equipping a Dhartha's Retreat is difficult because there's only one, and finding a time to use it is even more difficult.
There are two ways to use it, both are incredibly situational. 1. Get it at the start of the game if you see high rune cards you want. Then buy mystics and use dhartha's to cycle the cards. 2. Use it with a life bound honor grabbing strategy to cycle through your deck quickly, since this does not involve buying cards or killing monsters. The current implementation is bugged because killing cultist will still give you 7 cards for your next turn.
About power draw: Expansion gives me the first time to play power-drawing. I won once ( by 30+ points) and lose another to FPE in which he did it also. As for Dhartha's Retreat, I think it is better than other cost 4 honour 3 cards only when you have nothing to acquire or kill other than from the top left. Except in one occasion in a MP when I cannot remember how I exchange 2 cards for 2 heavies and get a fat hand in the next round... I have bias against Askara of Fate, it is a refined version of Asetic of the Lidless Eye. Normally I would rather take 2 Heavies instead. But I find Arbiter of Fate is way better than Arbiter of the Precipice, but still not that useful in early game than, say Shade of the Black Watch. I also find Eternal Askara rather useless in my style. If you want 3 powers, Demon Slayer or to lesser extent, Black Watch Elite, is a better choice that Sadranis. I think the Lunar Stag and Doom Weeper are very powerful card, given their low costs of entry. Sordid Asp is a fun card to play early on but it seldom helps afterwards. Between Nairi and Landtalker, which one would you prefer? I agree the Stone Circle is a pretty gorram powerful construct
has anyone encountered the game crashing when clicking on online play? I'm not sure if this has anything to do with Gamecenter bug, I have the latest version running, iOS 5.01, iPhone 4S. The solution would be to launch a game and play a round with the AI, then only go back to online game. That resolves it. otherwise, it kept crashing and boot me out to the home screen...
guys, i'm not sure if any of you have come across this "combo" or not? was playing against the AI and i happened to acquire these constructs. 1)Acquire, then put Tablet of time's dawn (banish to take extra turn) 2)Discard Tablet to take 1 extra turn 3)I happened to have Reclamax (discard and take back a construct from void) in play, activate it to take back Tablet of time's dawn 4)Since I have Hedron Link Device (all construct are now mechana constructs), reducing the cost to take back 5)discard Reclamax to take back Tablet of time 6)As i have Rocket Courier X-99 (put mechana construct directly in play) 7)Put Tablet of time's dawn in play and end the current turn 8)On next turn, refresh my cards and sac the tablet again, put all cards in play and hope i have enough resource, card drawing... 9)If my cards play out well, I could hope to draw Reclamax again and discard it to get the Tablet from void and repeat again step 3... Sounds a little overwhelming but could actually nail a few more turns isn't it?
I got this combo in singleplayer one time, got around 1300 points with it (pic is somewhere above in the thread).
Just wanted to say something about how much chat would add to this game. Recently poker pals added chat, well cprloe and me were playing both games, so we started chatting in poker pals while we played ascension. All I can say is it makes the game so much more enjoyable when you get to interact like that, It's like playing a real person instead of what feels like playing A.I sometimes. Here is to hoping they get that in game chat implemented soon.
Nice post. I logged on this morning to post the exact same thing. Ascension remains one of my favorite games and I am loving the new expansion, but the lack of a chat function takes away from the experience significantly. I really hope it is in the very next update for this app. It can't be that hard of a feature to add, can it?
totally agree. cprloe (plus somebody else i forgot the nick) - i need to apologize. I have grabbed Dharta in the first rounds, this means I will experimenting a bit. My apologies if you see some weird rounds from me (such us my last with cprloe due to my misunderstanding of the card).
There can't be 2 views on chat. It is #1 of my wish list and I would not be surprised if this weren't on most other follow players. I wish to apologize to many other players I am playing with, that I cannot take rematch with you for the time being. This is not because playing with you guys are not fun, but rather I think 20+ games at the same time really beyond my current load. I think I need to focus on manageable games at a time and will return once I am more available.
I lose a lot as well, but that's half the fun learning the new cards and making stupid mistakes. I think my record is 49-47,as you can see, I lose about every other game, but it's still fun.
For the record, mine is 187-204 for 2-player games. It is not shiny but I suspect my loss rate should be much higher. Anyway don't even brother about and did not even think about keeping track my own self after the expansion, just enjoy the game.
Hey Guys, When a Fate effect says something like, "All players draw a card" that effect doesn't kick in for you until your next active turn, right?
That's how it works in this game, but I never played it that way with the real version. I think it's pretty weird how this game does it. The card says that everybody takes a card as soon as it appears. I'm not sure why it waits on that. Seems wrong, though I suppose it doesn't really matter.
I have not played the real thing either, so I guess, as the word implies, every other play should get an extra. I would wait for the explanation from the experienced or the developer and (secretly) hope this is not a feature...
