Just got this and I'm really enjoying it. Any pointers for someone new to the game? Tips? Tricks? I don't want to get destroyed in every online game I play.
It's not a 4 players game, but 2 players game against 4 different people. Guess I have to learn more since they seem to be able to get lots of cards so fast. The good thing is that now I'm understand the purpose of banishing. Won't give up since it's my new addiction, but probably play against AI more (I lose more often too) to practice first.
Somewhere in this giant thread there's some tutorial/strategy write-ups, and there's some talk of strategy at boardgamegeek.com as well.
Start with 1-on-1, it is easier to track what your opponent is doing. Frankly, it is very hard for us who have played for some time, to deal with more than 2-player game. On the other hand, it is hard to connect to the server in the past hour, anyone notice this too?
Do not worry. I think I lost most of my games for the first weeks of play and only now I manage to win a few.
Curry, you are griffin?? The only one I played even when I gave up on this game? Cool. I never associated ... I found out now when I was looking for currymouton in GC
griffin611 on GC == currymutton on TA. I am a fellow addict like you. For what it is worth, drawing 10+ card in one round is not an art, it is not pure luck, but it is a skill you can master. Many earn my admiration of getting most of the mechna constructs and getting more on-table honours at the same time. (You know I am looking at you Camzy)
I was an addict and gave up on the game accept games with u and cprloe for a long time and even deleted the game last week. So, I am up for remembering how to play now.
Still making some careless mistakes from time to time. May be I should stop playing too fast (translate: not thinking enough) BTW, after the expansion, it is one of the oldest games who keep showing up on Page 1. Good job Playdek and keep it up.
Do not worry, I left the stone circle on the table for you to fix your mistake .... Edit: I took it now in any case this is an already lost game for me like the current game I have with camzy
10 game winning streak I guess I'm back to something like my best. Deck movement and banishing is more important than ever in the expansion.
So you would banish a card to prevent your opponent from acquiring it, if you suspect they want it for their strategy? Is it as simple as that, or is there more to it?
Well Camzy, in the new set there are cards that can kill the rotation and banning, especially banning. I learnt that the hard way. But there are new way of rotation and there is that 8 honor monster that can do magic (depending when it comes) even if in only giving honors (like our last game). I find the game got more complex and more aggressive than it was before. I am experimenting with various plays (so apologies if I play silly sometimes) and it is clear that now being defensive makes little sense and that the flow is less predictable than before. Even outcomes are (I lost two games I was sure I I won and won two I was sure I lost ...)
There's a bit more to it when banishing from the center row. The primary reason is to remove cards that you can't buy (or don't want) that would benefit your opponent. But often you're also banishing just to cycle something new into the center row (especially at the end of the game, when you're trying to maximum how much honor you get from your available runes and power - All-Seeing Eye isn't a good deal, so get rid of it and see if the next card is better). Once you get any of the cards that let you dig in the Void, it's not a bad idea to use the Void as your personal stash (although keep in mind that there are 2 Reclamaxs in the deck). And if you're playing a power heavy strategy, you need to make sure you have some monsters to kill each turn, so having at least one banish effect in your deck is usually a requirement before I will commit to the all Heavy Infantry approach.
It's just my opinion, but i really think that playing CotG+RotF is quite unbalanced. There are too many different cards for 2v2. I wonder how we will play as soon as Storm of Souls is out.
Camzyyyy ... We have not even started and you got two amazing cards in three rounds. How did you get so lucky! Not even needed I foresee another loss here
I think the balance is better with RotF added in. Without RotF I feel like going for a power deck almost never worked (or more correctly, going for honor collected as you go, whether by killing monsters or getting cards that give you Honor immediately). You didn't want to get too far behind, but for the most part it was about collecting high point value cards to add up at the end of the game. With RotF added in I feel like the games are much more varied and fun.
