@aoisora From my little experience, there is no hard and fast rule. There are many ways to gather points (to win, i.e.). One can go for Monster Killer and grab all the cards for Powers, or be a card collectors with a lot of cards. The cards available from the first few rounds may give one some really good idea what course of action to take. My advice, once you have it, play consistently (if the cards allow) and stick with it. Say you go for constructs, and get all the constructs as best as you can and all the cards that facilitate this (e.g. Reactor Monk). Well, as many have said, there are always some luck factors involved but fortunately the game is balanced enough so you can still maintain your plan some what (e.g. you can still draw honours even when you have a full hand of Heavy Infantry and there is no monster left in the deck) Just to give you a big picture. I am not going to go in the gambit part cause there are much more advanced players here than I am, and I suggest some one should start a bit of a "guide". Also I notice the AI is playing better (progressive AI?). There are more than 1 occasion that the Orange wins by using that stick and draws honours without touching anything!
Yep, I do occasionally. Played my first internet game of it this weekend actually (and got my ass handed to me - the guy managed to complete a something like 12-15 tile city).
I play Carcassonne, but I don't play it as much because I'm kind of worn out on playing it with just the base set, especially since in real-game form I've got many expansions for it and it's always fun to pick out some expansions and play with those. Then it's a bit of let down to be limited to the base set in the iOS version. Fall can't come soon enough... and then whatever season brings the next expansion and the next and the next....
I was just about to curse Ascension for crashing on me right in the middle of a sweet play ... ... and it turns out I ran out of battery. Playing for hours at a time and not remembering to check battery strength: THAT is the definition of a good game. (Sidebar: The game has actually never crashed on me once.)
Hey guys, you all heard any news of an upcoming update for Ascension? Kard Combat was released later than Ascension but the Developers just release a pretty significant update. I love Ascension and my most-wanted features are multi-tasking and support for Game Center leaderboard.
I've heard no news of an update ... but the expansion has been announced for "fall." http://bit.ly/qKxMLq I'd totally be down with an update, though. In addition to GC leaders and cheevos, I'd love to see some basic stats (wins, winning percentage, length of play, etc.)
KC is a scam with business malpractice clearly shown in the new update. Sure a faster update because in this way they could racket more money from who was misled by their iap description last time.
Just read the link that TheDukester posts. Can't wait for Fall to come soon enough. Didn't know the ROTF can be played as a standalone too. That is a good way to attract new players.
No, the expansion will be an IAP. You won't be able to play it separately. The real version is playable as a standalone 2 player game, but the iOS version will be an IAP, which makes sense. I suppose they could also release it as a separate app, but that would be kind of silly. Better to just buy A:CofG if you're only going to get one. I'm curious if they'll also include the solitaire variant. I have the real game and the rules include a version for a single player. It's not much, but still would be nice if the iOS expansion also let you do that for completions sake. Also the expansion allows for 6 player games. That would be rather cumbersome to play asynch, but if by some miracle you could get six people playing the game live, that would be fun.
What I think they mean here is that you can play with just the new set of cards. Basically you'll probably get three game choices when setting up a game once you buy this expansion: -Original -Stand Alone Expansion -Extra Crispy (Original and Expansion cards combined) While the game does offer some new twists, don't get too excited about the promised 65 new cards as many of these are simply alternative graphic renditions of the already existing cards from the original game since this can be played as a stand alone game. Not sure what percentage of the card therefore are completely new to the game. The biggest new twist, as far as I have read, is the FATE mechanic. These are cards that add interesting effects right as they are added to the center row (like all players draw a card or banish the two cards on either side of this newly added one).
I have the expansion (the real version). The 65 cards *are* new. The rest of the cards (there are more then 65 cards) are additional starting cards and always available cards, but the expansion does have 65 new cards. Aside from new heros, constructs and monsters, there's also a new type of card: Fate cards. These are center row cards, but in addition to being a hero, construct or monster, they have an effect as soon as they are drawn into the center row. For example there is one that lets everyone search their discard pile and take a construct in there (if they have one in their discard pile) and add it to their hand. One of the new monsters is Samuel and he's pretty cool/powerful. He requires 8 power to kill, but when you kill him instead of going into the void you play him in front of you and from then on any monsters that you kill get added to your discard pile and when they are played they give you power equivalent to the power required to kill them. Since he costs 8 to kill, though, nobody is going to get him early, at least not most likely. He's unbanishable, though, so once he appears in the center row he's there to stay either until the end of the game or until somebody defeats him. There's another whacky card in the game that might present a UI issue, but I think that's easily solvable. When played, you get to try guess what the top card on your deck will be. Then you draw the card, show it to the others and add it to your hand. If you guessed correctly you get 3 honor points. Either way the card gets added to your hand.
You know what? You need to get over it. It's one thing for you to get all dramatic over in the Card Combat thread, but this thread is for a different game altogether. It would be great if you didn't infect it.
Man we have all the rights to say whatever we want to in this forums. Some of us feel that HotHead made a mistake about what they said with their IAPs, so, let us complain about it if we like it. It's not dramatic over it, it's about what they said to us and what we have now. Let's finish here this offtopic, this thread is about ascension.
The "spinner dial" would be a workaround for this ... although it might look out of place in a game with such otherworldly art. Or maybe they could have a screen pop up, listing the factions. The player would select his faction, then get a sub-screen with all the cards available. From there, they make their selection. Or maybe there will be a new way to do this sort of thing in iOS 5. I'm just rambling here, but I do agree that they'll figure it out. Already, the discarding of constructs in online games is a minor workaround, so we know the developers have had to come up with solutions before.
as a side note, does anyone know if we will ever get a chat function for this or if that is something possible with iOs 5? This is definitely the best game I own, but man chat function would just make the online experience so much better. Hell I'd even take a button that only said "good game". Just something to make it more personal and provide some interaction. Oh I would like an "FU" button as well for when someone slays Xeron and takes your Hedron construct.
Chatting is possible now; you can do it in Samurai, for one. But maybe Apple is going to bake some sort of chat function directly into GC with iOS 5 ... that would be pretty nice. With Ascension, I'd love to be able to say "BRB, 5 minutes" or whatever when my children start beating the hell out of each other and I have get in the middle. It feels weird to play like 10 straight turns, but then have to leave for a few minutes. I always hope my opponent understands ...
