Hey you should just do the tutorial it helps you get a grip of the game! How I learned is played the tutorial/read the manual and then played a couple of online games to LEARN the strategy. Playing against bots helps too but once you start beating the bots go to online to learn the complex strategy. Beware you will be beaten A LOT but that makes that first victory all the more sweet. The expansions add more depth to the game if you like the game a lot and learn it I'd recommend buying the expansion packs it keeps the game amazingly fresh with all the variety of pack mixing the different expansions force you into way different styles of play and if you mix them all together you get an amazingly detailed and complex game with extremely satisfying strategy. Once you realize there is strategy is when you realize how fun it is. Also if you want my tips on strategy here they are. banish mitalia and apprentices WHENEVER YOU CAN! The most important thing is building a strong deck and later in the game they are just useless clutter. Also banish from the discard pile not from your hand unless you have 1 mitalia witch is useless because noting can be defeated for 1 attack. You can win the game without defeating any monsters! You can get stars by the cards themselves every card has a star value in the lower left corner (except for apprentices and mitalia) Constructs constructs CONSTRUCTS get them they are so useful (with a few exceptions) and banish any monster in the middle that can destroy your constructs. If you have 4-5 constructs you have a huge advantage EVEN if they aren't being used because they have a large star value.
I don't know about the most fun. My favorite cards are those that let you banish a card in your hand and get a hero from center row to add to your hand. Raj blah blah blah blah, or something. And Eye of Destiny. The events really change this game up and make it super fun
Help me, I'm so addicted to this game. I must stop. 610 games completed... Add me as a friend if you want someone to beat down on: bartokomous
I find it interesting that this game never ceases to be interesting. I've been playing for over 2 years now, racked up over 3000+ games and just play the turns as they come and enjoy doing so. I now know all the cards like the back of my hand too. I still hate the Eye of Destiny though, and nothing I've seen from it (unless by some lucky chance you nab it turn 3 or something really soon) really justifies its cost and poor honor return. I also played a crazy game with the new promos on where I nabbed the 8 cost hero who gives a trophy monster every turn in round 3 then hit and Ender of Days by like round 6. I ended up beating my poor opponent something like 65 - 31. 31 points is like the lowest I've ever seen someone get by game's end.
this is probably my favourite game on ios. I play every day and its never gotten boring. Every game is different really and even if you have a mare, you just start again in the next match. there are a few people who I play with every day and its basically become the background noise of my phone during the day. I will be sad when they turn off the game in 2014.
Yeah if it has more than 2 turns to work, it completely wrecks everything. I don't think I've ever lost when I pick it up.
I agree. I had the Orb of Nyx and Kythis, Rebel Godling and ended up with all my cards in my hand, 10 soul gems and 40 honor points in one round...
So, being pretty late to the game with this one, I was getting slaughtered when I bought all of the expansions, going down by about 45 games in my win/loss ratio. I just hit even today at 369-369. Let's celebrate! SN: bartokomous
After seeing some of Goko's games, including its beta release, of which I can't discuss specifics of, I have very little faith this game will be even remotely as good when the reins are passed off. I know we've had years with the game, but up until last year I hadn't realized the true awesomeness of the game. Due to the somewhat questionable subject matter of Tanto, it's not really a good fit. Nightfall is not an option, it's complex and terribly unfun in Asynch. Penny Arcade is a lot more limited and my wife doesn't care for the game itself. Summoner wars was not a game I really got into, and I know my wife wouldn't care for it. The problem is that ascension was so easily accessible and clear to understand, that trying to replicate or replace that is going to be nearly impossible. I have asked PlayDek to consider adding bluetooth head to head, but I highly doubt that will happen before it goes offline. Now I don't care about having to repurchase the expansions, but if it's handled by Goko? Yeesh, I don't want to get involved in a crap, terrible port. I'd appreciate any thoughts, though I have a feeling I might be sol.
The new version isn't being made by goko - stoneblade themselves are making and servicing it. While their first dive into online games, Solforge, has had a slightly rocky start, I'm sure they've learned from it and won't have the same problems with Ascension. And for what it's worth, goko's games are now definitely playable, even on mobile. I play Dominion on my iPad every so often.
New video from Stoneblade showing their upcoming version of Ascension (nearing public beta - ie. they still have bug fixes and polishing to do):
Give Nightfall time. I consider it one of the best board games I've EVER played and the complexity becomes thrilling once you have a firm grasp for the mechanics. But yeah, it is kinda cumbersome in async. Not enough that I'm not enjoying it, though. I don't consider that a bad points on their résumé Solforge has merits (though it was easily supplanted as my digital desktop CCG of choice once I discovered Scrolls). I must say that I much prefer the old UI and graphics. But other than the presentation, this looks mighty promising. I hope they develop an async engine similar to Playdek's in terms of the speed which moves propagate, and the seamless mesh between async and realtime. While I had much to say on the lack of chat, that push notifications did not bring the player directly into the game in question, and while I would have liked to have seen more persistent statistics and competitive mechanics, only Carcassonne can rival Playdek's async engine for smoothness and realtime integration.
That looks very, very promising! I am so glad StoneBlade decided to go this way, especially after watching reviews of the new mini expansion, a lot of great new ideas there.
