The same more or less happened with me. I tried the game out late-2011 and couldn't get into it for some reason. Tried it again 8 months ago when I got my iPad Mini, and well... I've been absolutely hooked ever since. Games come and go, but this one's consistently been on the first page of my device. Keep playing and keep experimenting with strategies that work. Each game is different and unique - learn to adapt and you'll eventually get a better overall feel for the game. Add me up on GC - KineticBlur
Thanks! I'll add you. My GC username is Writersareliars. It's interesting trying to adapt in this game because your opponent is also continually changing and adapting. I guess that's simply the nature of a deck building game, though, and it certainly means that things are always interesting. I need to think on my feet better.
Introduction: I am a known addict here, also know as losing more than winning, and ah, my GCID is griffin611.
Anyone seen the news on the upcoming new expansion, Darkness Unleashed (physical version)? Looks pretty cool - hmm, wonder where they got the Transform mechanic from...
I've realized you can pull insane stunt with Immortal Heroes set.... of course this is only with AI... what's your record?
That was a nutty turn jcman7 haha I killed Unchained Fates, Nemesis, 2 other monsters, and drew Unchained Fates, Genie and Nohting Man from the void. Crazy turn.
Hey guys, I've been running bi-monthly tourneys at ascensiongame.com. The next one is starting on the 16th, come play with me! It's a similar format to the tourneys we had here a few months ago. It's at http://ascensiongame.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=12686. See ya guys!
Ok, if i get the point of several posts a couple of pages back sometime in 2014 playdek is taking this app off the appstore and putting a new one in it's place. I did not get the reason why. the only thing that i wonder about is if i will re-purchase in order to have access to any expansion packs past what is available now, or just be content with what i have. Certainly playtek should be aware that even for the great value this app is, in these tight economic times many may balk at having to rebuy just because.....so what facts am i missing, or did i just mistaken with the whole thing? Any comments or opnions other than flames appreciated
StoneBlade, the creators of Ascension, are ending their partnership with PlayDek and releasing their own version that will likely be cross-platform -- meaning you could play against people on PC, Android, browser, etc.. That means Playdek's version will no longer be supported with updates, and taken offline to avoid confusion with having two versions of the game on the AppStore. You will most likely have to repurchase the game and any expansions when StoneBlade releases their version. The current game is definitely worth buying and playing. Even as a single player offline experience, I have a lot of fun. If you're new I Ascension, maybe just get the base app and see how you like it, or just wait for the new one. Ine thing to keep in mind is that StoneBlade's new cross-platform card game, SolForge, has a lot of problems for many users. It has been updated several times, but people still complain about it crashing. Whether they can make their version of Ascension with the polish PlayDek gave it is something we'll have to wait and see.
Promo Pack 2 is out, available for $0.99, gogogo! It contains: - Askara of Fortune - Journeyman Sage - Cetra, Guide of Ogo - Hedron Flare - Nethersnare - Ender of Days Thanks to tecwrtr for the heads up!
Woah, isn't "Cetra, Guide of Ogo" a bit overpowered? "Acquire all Heroes in the center row without paying their costs. Put them on top of your deck in any order".
Newbie I downloaded this today since it is on sale for free. I am a total newbie with deck building games. I was trying to figure out what the iaps are for this game and if any of them are really necessary to get etc... Does anyone have advice on a guide or good websites that can help a newbie with this game?
You don't need the expansions to enjoy the game, but those are currently on sale too, so I'd recommend at least Storm of Souls. It brought more interesting functions into the game than Return of the Fallen, and Immortal Heroes might feel a bit repetitive if you're new to the game -- it recycles cards from the base deck and doesn't add as much new gameplay. You definitely don't need the promo packs, especially since you don't know why any of those cards are worth having. As for learning how to play, I got really into it just by playing against a single AI opponent for a while, then trying with two or three of them to see how games changed. I also bought the expansions, but didn't use them till I got a feel for the base game. It's really easy to learn and have fun, but I'm probably not as good as most players here. I just recommend playing the base game to see what it's like.
Depending on the field when you draw it, it's either extremely powerful or a complete waste of a card, since it only works on Heroes. If there's a bunch of constructs or monsters on the field, it's not going to help much. It can also force you to add "fodder cards" like Hectic Scribe into your deck that you might just as soon avoid (and be required to draw them on the very next turn). Promos tend to be a bit above the norm in terms of power, anyway. I'm more impressed by Askara of Fortune for its casting cost, especially in a 4-player game. And Journeyman Sage could let you "class up" a 3-Honor hero to something like Aaron or Cetra and use the new card right away if the field looked favorable. http://ascensiongame.com/product-category/cards/ shows some of the other promo cards that might grace the "virtual world" some day.
Quite a few Promo cards are a bit op, stuff like Pathwarden. But then even the normal sets have stuff like PRIME and Aiyana. Cetra's cost offsets the power a bit, as well as the randomness of how many heroes might be in the center row.
I accepted your request but strangely I don't see your name in my Ascension friends list, is it under a different Playdek ID now?
Pathwarden is indeed the most broken card (yet the most fun) in the entire game, IMO. I got it on my first turn a couple of times by chance... easy game, set, match
