Can someone briefly explain the basic instructions for this game? I played Shadow Era and am in love with it. But I dont like how much of an advantage you have just for having monsters out when your opponent doesn't. I hope Ascension isn't like that. I'm still questioning whether to buy it.
This is a very different type of game than SE. This is a deck building game whereas SE is a CCG. In Asc., you start with a very basic deck. You use those cards to buy hero and construct cards or kill monster cards that are available to ALL players. As you collect heroes and constructs, they go into your deck, and when you've used up all the cards in your deck, you shuffle them and start again (with of course a bigger, hopefully better deck than before). The goal of the game is to get the most points (called honor). You get honor by killing monsters and from your cards themselves (each card has its own honor value). There's a central pool of honor for all players, and each time a player kills a monster (or some other effect takes place that allows him to acquire honor), the player takes honor from that pool. Once it's gone, the game is over and everyone counts up his honor total. I love both types of games, but I play Ascension far more than SE. I like how everyone starts out on even ground, and whether you win or lose depends on a combination of luck (luck of the draw both from your deck and for the cards available to purchase/kill) and the choices you make DURING the game (rather than how you construct your deck before playing).
Awesome. If you like it, take a look at Dominion too. Right now there's just a 3rd party (unlicensed) version of it, but the developers of Dominion are making an official iOS version. From what I understand, it's the game that birthed the deck building genre.
Update out! Just fix the P.R.I.M.E. bug. If you launch before update, there is a nice reminder now telling you to update first.
Yeah I'm just cutting down on some of my Ascension games now that I'm playing Summoner Wars so much more. I still like the game, and maybe we can play again in a tournament or something, but for now, I'm closing up my Ascension games.
At least I went out on a high note against Camzy! Good games, if you start playing again, invite me again.
Gary Games (the team that created the paper-version of Ascension) has announced a new game along with Richard Garfield, the man behind Magic: The Gathering. One of the devs just started a thread in the upcoming games section. They're currently seeking funding on kickstarter, and backers get access to the beta of the game in January.
The screenshots in the thread don't look like Playdek work. I'll probably be passing on it anyway, not a fan of the collectible genre.
I added you Tecwrtr. I'm looking forward to some good matches! On another note, I have found that three player games are the most enjoyable for myself. Anyone else want to get in on a three-way that we can sustain for a while? [e.g. keep playing rematches]
I didn't really search this topic, but how's the offline game? Seeing how this is a dollar right now, I might pick it up.
AI is fair -- it can fulfill your itch of a game where online connection is unavailable. But still, matching against real guys online is the grail. Grab all the packs and find "griffin611" for a game already!
