Eh I don't know. In Ascension where there's a luck element, drawing a card isn't as good as getting a preset +1 power and guaranteed banish. I like having units where you can build a turn without having to rely on the game's inherent randomness. Also, the 4 cost monster can hit the Dreamer's Glass a little too easily for my liking. It has great benefits, but the risks are much greater too. Your entire game is practically ruined if you lose control of the Dreamer's Glass.
There are so few ways to get rid of constructs though in SoS. I really hate that when someone gets Everbloom in one of the first rounds. It's really hard to counter that. If a game goes for roughly 15+ turns, your opponent can easily rake in 15 honour.
Yeah Everbloom is a beast. I'd pick it up early, mid and late game because of its honor to cost ratio.
A hat-trick of wins against Camzy, maybe I'm doing something right... otherwise I should probably buy some lottery tickets right now!
I think snake shaman is a hugely underrated card. it's an apprentice but on turns when you have 1-2 honor after acquiring things is great to get that lil bit of honor. if you think about it, most people would spend an extra 3 rune for a mecha construct. if you acquire what you want for your turn and have a few tune left over, snake shaman recycles it very well. granted you don't get a card but all those honor add up. eye of destiny I think is a lot better than people give it credit for. it can speed you up a lot if gotten early game. example: with it on the field and when you draw 4 apprentice, you can easily get 2 mystics for that turn!
Snake Shaman mostly works well if you're rune heavy or your deck is Lifebound. As for EoD, you need to think hard for each turn and preferably stock up on power cards. If you're able to leverage EoD's unique feature you'll do extremely well. But if you're not up to the task it can be a useless card. I've been trying to understand the benefits of Askara of Fate and Hectic Scribe. The Scribe is still a good 1 cost Enlightened card that can support Tower Askara well, but other than that I hate it that a hand where I draw the Scribe is basically a 4 card hand. As for Askara of Fate, it's a 2 card draw and allows you to control the center row but it also gives your opponent a card... it just never seems like a good payoff to me. Camzy seems to have no issue in buying both cards probably because he trusts that he can use them for deck mobility in a trimmed deck.
One of the issues I have with Black Hole in SoS+RotF games is that banishing cards are really easily available in this set and if you manage to have even 3 cards that can banish then you're going to run out of stuff to banish closer to endgame. Dreamer's Glass gives you the option to hide cards that have honor value so it still has a function at endgame. Like, I can hide a Combustion Idol on my last turn, but obviously can't banish it. In a situation where I have the choice of buying Black Hole and the Glass I'll still buy the Glass in the hope that I'll be able to buy an Abolisher, Nihilmancer, Arha Sensei, Shadowcaster or Arbiter of Fate later on.
So its Emos vs crunc in the finals and techwrtr vs cprloe for the 3rd placing Good idea! A grand final would be fun
have to agree with Emos and sapphire. at less for the new expansion. I feel dreamers glass is better as it doesn't give you a +1 power but it does let you cycle through your deck. random card in deck>+1 power IMO. and as they've stated, dreamers glass lets you play your deck around the center row of cards. too many power cards, put those under the construct etc. for the RotF and SoS I think dreamers glass is better but if both the sets were to be combined with the base set, I don't know which would be better. edit: full disclosure. I've only used dreamers glass midrange and after. and it's been super useful. whereas I doubt it would be as good in the beginning. in this sense I imagine black hole wins solely because it speeds up your deck.
Hi guys, I am still new to this game (& forum) and still learning at the moment. Have bought the expansions and cannot believe I missed out on this game earlier. Just wondering what extra the promo cards offer as there isnt much info on the thread. Hope to get up to standard to play some of you guys soon, as I think this is my favourite game on iOS so far.
Hi, welcome! The promo included 7 new cards, and the most distinctive card amongst them is the rat king which will fill the centre rows with giant rats when it comes out, allowing more strategic playing involved.. Its worth the 1.99!
You make good points. I personally like Askara of Fate and Hectic Scribe. The scribe I take most of the time unless there's a big card on the table early game. The thing with the scribe, is it gets better mid-late game too. It also works great combo-ed with the retroactive banishers (Black Watch Elite, Shade of the Black Watch, Void Initiate etc.) It depends on my deck type, but with a hand where I'm lacking movement or have lots of Lifebound, which is a lot of them, I'll pick up the scribe every time. Oh and the Arha event. That makes Hectic Scribe more than decent. Which also reminds me about Elemental Adept. You draw TWO cards in the Arha event. It's a gem. I'm also getting a taste of Void Militia. I pick that one up on occasion now if I have a super trimmed deck, an edge, and the board is covered in monsters. I still adamantly avoid Grease Monk and Guardian of Sadranis though. Askara of Fate I figure is a fair deal. You mind your own business on your turn, your opponent can't disrupt you, and with the banishing effect, you can limit the board (kind of) so that his extra card isn't as useful. Can't help it if something nice pops up underneath though
Oh I always keep forgetting that Arha Rising allows you to recover one discarded card. Events can be so rare though. I really hope Immortal Heroes adds a new dimension to events.
cprloe, good game, was really tight almost till the end. I'll be free to finish the second game later today, possibly earlier too.
wholeheartedly agree. even though I hate scribe I will pick him in the new expansion. the life bound monsters and events you mentioned make it a very good card. Askari of fate gives you a +1 on your own turn which can make the difference from acquiring that rich card. a risk of course but a lot of times a risk worth taking.
