Agreed. I find the games are more fast paced in terms of overall turns, but I take much longer in making turns because there are so many options. Honor on board as opposed to honor from deck I feel is more important too. Constructs are just too difficult to acquire sometimes, and with the honor drainers and new trophy monsters, killing the monsters and banishing/moving your hand fast is the best strategy a lot of the time. Lots of people say Void are pale in SoS compared to the other factions, but in many ways, they are the most conducive to playing a good game and winning in SoS.
got a little question: is it possible, that you can't earn any GC achievements, if you have a local play against a buddy? and why i cant play cotg with sos? well and, there is a game crashing bug: if you have a lot of cards and play great-omen raven the game crashes and your actual game is ruined, because everytime you open your game the card is played and crashs again. thankfully you can delete the game without open it.
Is this game anything like yugioh? Cause I was going to get this game but I'm always skeptical about card games on the app store. Would you recommend this game for a yugioh fan?
It has different gameplay than yugioh. Yugioh is more of a battle (like Pokemon or MTG) while Ascension is more of card collecting. You don't have to build a deck, but choose a set or several instead. If the reason of you becoming yugioh fan is the battle feeling, then it is different (perhaps not really that recommended). But if you like card game in general, and adore the visual images, then it is recommended. Still, for me, Ascension is one of my top favorite game. It is a great card game, so I always recommend this game.
Off-topic and maybe old, but Summoner Wars is now set for June, instead of just Spring \o/ Can't wait Agricola is still slated for Summer.
I'd say go try "shadow era" that's more of a yugioh style game. I've just bought this myself though as for 69p you can't go wrong for another quality game.
Well I've just played my first 3 games of this and can someone help me out, why would I want to banish a card from my own hand or graveyard? Also am I missing something here but is there no stats for games played won lost etc? (only played offline so far) but stats seem like something that should be there. Other than that I'm really enjoying it. It's a totally different type of card game to stuff I've previously played (yugioh/duel masters, shadow era etc) but I can see me getting into it a lot, even after just a few games I'm already wondering if it's worth getting the IAP packs or should I wait until I've got the hang of it a bit more. Very polished game and very nice card artwork.
Since Ascension is a game where you build your deck each match as you play, and create strategies by picking whatever suitable cards luck places in your reach while reacting to the effects your opponent's moves, you use banish mechanics to tighten up your strategies, compensate for the occasional bad choice, and most of all to ensure that you are always dealt your most powerful and rewarding cards. Primarily, as soon as you have better sources of Runes and Power, you want to get rid of your apprentices and militia, to ensure that your new hands contain cards which yield greater amounts of Runes, Power and possible Honor yield (and all the other nifty stuff). There will be other reasons to banish along the way, such as getting rid of all but a few very powerful and high Honor-yielding cards once your current strategy takes off, but apprentices and milita remain my most common reason for banishing. The game currently has very little in the ways of persistent stats. There is a basic profile system for online games, accessible from the online lobby, but that is all. I'd like to see a wealth of stats to be added eventually, but have no greater hopes for it. If nothing else, an ELO rating system would be nice for added persistence and sense of context and achievement. Yeah. While I do really enjoy the deep strategy of building decks and slowly tweaking and adapting my strategies, the level playing field and short-term tactical choices that Ascension offers are a very refreshing change. If you enjoy it, there is absolutely no reason you should not get Nightfall as well, another deck building game from the same developer (though not created by the same real-world card game publisher), based on partially similar mechanics. It might not be even close to Ascension in terms of character and personality, built as it is upon a watered down World of Darkness/Underworld/[your own choice of vampire vs. werewolf franchise] comic book setting, but the mechanics are much more intricate and sophisticated (and convoluted) than Ascension's, and consequently has the potential for greater variation in strategies and tactics. I enjoy Ascension like few other card games, but winning in Nightfall is much more satisfying, thanks to the greater skill and cognitive focus required to play the game properly. Though I'd recommend you to purchase Nightfall over any of the Ascension IAPs if you are on a budget, in the end all the IAP packs are VERY well worth the dough. The Storm of Souls is almost like a pseudo-sequel, and mixes up the gameplay in pleasant and refreshing ways, and Return of the Fallen expands upon whatever tactics you've already grown fond of in The Chronicle of the Godslayer, and offers much greater variation.
Every card has a Valor Point Value, but there are 10 cards that don't have any value at all... Militia and Apprentice... It's best to banish those ASAP so you can get more important and better cards quicker... 10 cards less that present no real value in the end is a big help
Yes SoS has some very different strategies to use and the promo cards (Pathwarden OMG) are the icing on the cake. It is taking me a lot longer to mull over each turn instead of just plowing thru a turn in CoTG/RotF. So far, Dreamers Glass and Shadowcaster are the best 5 cost cards in my opinion.
Game Impressions Well, what are in the minds of those designers of Storm of Souls? It violates most of the concepts we have used to and love, in a fun way. The new cards, as many mentioned above like Dreamer's Mirror and the promo card Pathwarden are jaw-dropping fun. I must confess that I cannot acquire the former early enough to enjoy the most out of it. I find this game even more tilted to the power players, especially when combined with RotF which is already monster-ladden. From what I get, many more cards are providing powers and straight honours. (And you should learn to love that Snake Shaman which I secretly wish there were a power-based cousin) A few annoyances and omissions met which have been mentioned but the GC reconnection is still a very pain in the neck. I would recommend this over to anyone who enjoy card game and veterans of CotG alike. P.S. Somebody shoulda change the thread title already!
I'm too busy playing Ascension to notice these things! Maybe if the devs gave us in game chat some of the people I play regularly would have notified... Just sayin playdek
A qns, where does the event card comes from? Is it shuffled into the centre row deck so that it randomly gets drawn or is there a separate deck for it?
Events are in the center row deck and there are only 5 event cards. This is why the bigger set you play with the lower are chances of you seeing events. The next expansion, Immortal Heroes, which is a smaller expansion like RotF will add at least one more event for each faction.
Been playing the new set n loving it more n more. I usually played 10minutes games, but now i need more time to remember what the new cards do. Also still figuring out combos between cards as well as events. Great updates
Next step, Chat system and Custom cube deck ! It will allow us to play with cards from each extension ^^
