The game has a really high spike in difficulty starting from wave 46. Almost everything upgraded to max and I still can't beat 47. Never bought any iaps btw. The main problem is the game sending high hp blockers and archers that do insane damage. Did I mention that there are also healers for the meatshield walls?

This is a spot on review.
I am on the 49th wave and have a lot of the upgrades.
Once I finish and open up endless mode, I'm not sure what the point of replay will be, as it will just be very repetitive at that point.
The scenario never changes, consequently after so many waves, regardless of how good it looks or plays, it gets a bit boring.

Maybe some additional content at some point would bring me back.
Definitely worth .99 but I'll probably delete it when I win it.

Edit: Just wanted to add that the IAPs are NOT needed. I am on level 49 and haven't spent a single cent on IAP. I will be done and finished with the game soon and will have no need what so ever to have spent money.
Your loss if you skip it because of that reason.

Just wait until you hit 49 !
I felt the spike in difficulty as well, but when I hit 49 it ramped up again!
Still having fun, but it's gonna take a bit to get past these last couple waves.
    :D

I managed to get to wave 50 now by replacing my shotgun skill with fire arrow. Now I'm stuck again because the main boss has a ton of life and oneshots everything.

I almost wish the description would just tell non-ED fans to f*ck off :p

I disagree. Just because it's humanly possible to unlock everything with IAP doesn't mean people won't need it. There comes a point when the amount of play time you'd have to put in just becomse unnacceptable and unlikely, Mega Jump crossed that line and unless you want to bore yourself to death you'll have to cough up the money. I also hope that isn't the case with this game, though.

    Smithy makes iron?

New to these types of games. Can anyone explain the 'Smithy makes iron' leveling system? I see that it starts at L1, and then counts up to a point where it says 'Upgrade' and has a number besides it. At any time when I select Smithy, it launches another dude.
What is the strategy behind this?
How often and when should i be launching dudes?

I also see a few times that I can pick up Iron and it goes back to this 'icon'.

    any advice much appreciated!

    thanks!

Is it castle defense or side-scrolling defense? Castle defense is a seperate genre that involves manually clicking things, reaction time and precision, as well as strategy. Side-scrolling defense is more pure strategy.

I have never enjoyed a castle defense game for more than 10 minutes...but I do occassionally really like side-scrolling defense games.

(Edit: Not sure if its generally acknowledged that side-scrolling defense is a separate genre from castle defense -- in my mind, its a very different category, but I'm not sure that others break it down that way.)

Think of Legendary Wars, but only 1 lane, and nowhere near as deep, but with a spectacular use of the ED/AOD franchise. I guess it's more of a side-scrolling defense by your reckoning.

I've been playing it all afternoon and enjoying the heck out of it. The IAP naysayers either haven't played it or just have a philosophical abhorrence of IAP. It's purely the shortcut kind and barely qualifies as useful let alone necessary.

They cover it pretty well in the tutorial at the beginning of the game but Iron is used to summon extra units to the battlefield. Things like your Peasants and Swordsmen require Iron. Smithy generates this Iron overtime. Once Smithy gets enough built up Iron he can be upgraded, which will allow him to make more Iron and churn it out at a faster rate allowing you to summon stuff quicker. Hope that helps.

I am not super familiar with the differences, but going by your description it's a side-scrolling defense game. You only control Ash manually, there is no grabbing and flicking of units or anything like that. Once you summon them they carry out their tasks as you would except.

I am the current leader at the top of the charts for gold, with over 500,000.

I could have spent 24.99 to get that much gold, but it was much easier to just play the game like any normal game. IAPs are simply unnecessary to win this game.

Best strategy is to level up arthur as high as you can, and also level up your archers, the castle archers, and the castle catapults. Also, level up smithy to level 2 if possible, really speeds things up.

Game was pretty simple, and i beat it the day it came out. Brilliant, simple little game, extremely enjoyable. Unfortunately, there were many achievements that could only be gotten during the 50 level main storyline, and I did not realize that as I was blowing through the game as fast as possible. Sad that unless I reset, I won't be able to get them. :(

Regardless, if anyone truly thinks IAPs are required, they are fricken brain dead.

Unfortunately, the Toucharcade review kinda missed the point. There certainly IS strategy to the game, and levellig up any stupid unit to level 10 will NOT make the game a breeze to defeat.

Good luck all evil dead followers. This game certainly did the movies justice.

My only real gripe is I do get a little slowdown once in awhile, on an ipod 3g, jailbroken. The slowdown never bothered me, and wierdly it was worse near the beginning than the end, and it certainly would bother many, but I barely notice those kind of things.

I guess I mostly consider it castle defense because you ultimately are defending your castle with the necronomicon in it and you don't ever attack their castle.
But it's mostly about managing your troops and abilites. Ash can be a big help with his abilities, they can ultimately change the tide of a battle. But upgrading and picking the right troops to throw at them and picking your abilities for different levels is most of the tactics of winning.

So you're the guy just ahead of me >.<

Game beat, putting it down for a while so play on!

edit: IAP not needed, but I definitely wanted to throw my iPhone getting through the last level. Yay it's done, boo it's done.

I had to take a break to do some real life stuff, sleep, pay attention to wife, etc. But when I came back I readily beat 49 and 50.

I don't see that the "most gold" leaderboard is that great.
I'm at the top right now, but all it takes to pull ahead is playing it over and over now that endless is open. Someone will pass me soon enough.

No IAPs here, game finished, worth .99 easily. I might play the endless a little bit but probably not too much.

I've found this to be the case for most people who instinctively begin to froth at the mouth when the letters I, A, and P are ever strung together.

Do you have a name for people who feign lack of reading comprehension in order to advance particular agendas fueled by vested interests? Preferably without using a serious medical condition as a derogatory term.

    Just curious.

Actually you are right. I got a lot of the "coins" by downloading and opening the supported apps (a feature no longer offered).
You do have to grind quite a bit there but its a fun game so I didn't mind.

This game is awesome though. One thing to mention is that you still get to keep collected gold even if you die, so you can continuously level up even if you lose the levels. level 30 at the moment.

It provokes the feeling of "incomplete" ownership.

I buy the full version of a game vs. the lite, then fire up the game and see
theres IAP's for more items. I think WTF am I missing out on? I just bought
the full version, everything should be included!

Dead Space is a perfect example of your earlier example though.
I spent $6.99 then opened the game and said WTF IAP's!!!???

Fast forward to me passing the game 3 times and not spending a single
additional penny. I guess it's just the initial shock factor to some.

If you're impatient and want to be L337 now, IAP's are there for you.
If you want to play the game normally, ignore them. This game is no different.

overall nice game, finished it without AIPs. However the upgrade design and prices are pushing toward iap, because after finishing the campaign there are still a lot of gold needed to upgrade everything and the reward for endless mode is just meh. I would say there are some balance issues with some units. But the game is funny, controls are good and there is definitely some strategy involved.
