That DOS version does look sweet, I never played Archon1/2 on anything but the C64 so I'm biased I guess. Something about that SID-chip music and super-fast gameplay just made it really awesome although in some cases a bit unfair as the fastest joystick almost always won regardless of strategy.
Don't know if you've heard of this, but you seem to be a pretty big C64 fan. There's an awesome app called Sid Player, which lets you download a lot of the classic C64 tunes from back in the day. Also, there's tons of new music that a dedicated set of individuals have been making over the years using the C64 sounchips. Some of it is actually really good! Anyway, there's a lite version if you want to check it out. Sorry if you've already heard about this. I was never an Archon player when I was little, but I'll have to admit that this game looks pretty awesome. I'll be keeping my eye out for this, might have to give it a spin.
at first i was like, is it a jailbroken cydia app, cause i thought apple has a policy of no emulators but then i re read it and saw that it said just tunes... there are a few C64 games that i have been itching to play for a decade or so... Archon being one of them
Not to go too O/T but yes I'm a big fan of SID music though for whatever reason I've always used Sidplay then Sidplay2/w though it hasn't been updated in years. To anyone whose never experienced the wonderful synth of the C64's SID chip I'd recommend one of the above players and the HSVC, pretty much the only C64 music collection you need. Personal favorites are the themes from Skate or Die, Hunter's Moon and the incredibly ahead of its time mix from 1985 called simply 'Synth Sample' from George Feil.
