My feeling is Google Play, though it's supported, it's not widely diffused. My primary concern here, other than adding more contents to the game itself, is drive more users to play it. As the reviews are mostly positive (4.5 on over 100 reviews), I don't believe people are not playing due to game issues, they just don't know it exists. I will be focusing on this aspect, along with some enhancements to the gameplay, hopefully it will be enough Thanks
This "average" update is on its way, currently on review status. I opted for Game Center, as it seemed the most logic solution. Along with the integration of the achievements, I introduced a new location with 3 new quests which track the player performances and award a final score, which can be shared and compared to others through leaderboards. The Ranger piercing shot ability has been nerfed, it was way overpowered. Other minor fixes have been made. The next update will include random generated dungeons, new pieces of equipment, hopefully new spells, and any other idea that comes up before the release
Arcane Quest - Adventures I have started a new project, called Arcane Quest Adventures. It's a spin-off on Arcane Quest 2, with a few key differences: - The game will be played by a single hero, chosen at the beginning - There will be open areas, as well as the classic dungeons - Rogue-like style, death is permanent with very few checkpoints - The shop, heroes management, quest system will be all in-game, given by NPCs or accessing some buildings More to come, opinions are welcome!
Sounds good. I'm sure whatever you build will be quality. Just some of my own suggestions. You might like to consider some aspect of a party system still. As much as your take may be quality, there's a number of single character rogues on iOS (with different classes) which to me end up being so similar before long. To that end, have a look at crowntakers for inspiration. Currently getting good praise. Edit: by some aspect I mean I'm not suggesting against single character. But just run some thought around something like hireable mercs that have different traits and themselves can be levelled and lost. Just another dimension to the game.
Dear Talbs, that's certainly a good suggestion. Hireable characters would be a great addition. I'm curious to see what may come out, certainly a faster gameplay, while keeping the tabletop classic mechanics. Will keep you posted
Finally back to playing again I really like the new Arena, great dungeon to beef up my characters a bit. Itching to continue the storyline though, so I won't invest too much time into it before I've seen more of the game. About AQ Adventures: I am not a fan of permadeath at all. I have very little time to play, and permadeath feels like an "I don't care" slap in the face in that regard. So far I felt no real frustrating consequences for not completing a dungeon, and I very much enjoy this aspect of AQ2. Yes, I lost over an hour in dungeon-delving once because I left the dungeon (didn't realise then that this sets you back all you earned in gold and xp) . But I gained a lot of gameplay experience from it, and that does not go away, it's a - albeit smaller - reward than going home with it plus gold and xp to improve your warriors, too. Instead, I have an alternative suggestion: How about an approach similar to Dark Souls: that you come back, but with some progress lost. I never played it myself, but read that it works pretty well: with monster respawning when you die, while you get send back to a checkpoint/hub. You seem to keep your gold, XP, and equipment though, which makes it a well-balanced mechanic in my book. Or, go even further and make dying and returning part of the storyline and mechanics, like Planescape:Torment did so very well. Not having to care about annoying death/reload cycles made it the most immersive and well thought-out - both story and mechanics-wise - game I ever played in over 30 years. In short: Please, no permadeath, keep your game acccessible.
Hi Nullzone, yes I'm not a fan of permadeath as well, I'm thinking about a checkpoints system, while keeping gold/XP/Equips, so at least your heroes don't start from scratch. Now, I know this may not make some people happy, but I think I will need to change the graphics style, removing walk animations and introducing minatures bases, attached there's an example. Opinions?
Miniature-style should be fine, no worries. But I guess that doing it well is almost as much work as having walking etc. animations. By the way, how much playtime did you plan AQ2 for? I have over 50 hours on the clock already, and guess I am not even halfway through. So, great job so far
No plan actually, if I'm not wrong there are 31 quests (average 3-4 dungeons per quest), including the assassination contracts. Plus the 3 new arenas. Downloadable I published myself 4 original quests from Arcane Quest 1, plus many released by other players, cannot guarantee on the quality though.. AQ Adventures should be a lot faster in the gameplay. It is NOT AQ3, it's a spin-off with a different gameplay. Thanks for the help, as always
The downloadable extra quests are a really nice touch, great idea that players can create more content. I want to play through the main game first, though.
Arcane Quest Adventures - Teaser Trailer The next chapter, Arcane Quest Adventures, is on its way, here's a teaser trailer for you Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel
Nice trailer, looking forward to it. If you need any testers, just holler One small criticism on the trailer: In the second half, the writing beneath the device. Especially the left half is very hard to read; because it only shows up for such a short time, and the perspective distortion. Oh, and it should be NPCs, unless you only have one (which I doubt)
thanks, I had to rush it so didn't have time to double check everything. BTW I think there will be a new trailer by the time it's released.
Just found this game a few days ago and have been playing it nonstop since. Really enjoying it and actually prefer it to Warhammer Quest (the annoying surprise attacks in WQ basically ruined the game for me). I'm playing two save games with different four person parties and have barely gotten started, but have already put in over 20 hours into the game. Excellent effort by the dev!
Thank you very much, I'm glad you enjoyed the game, and I hope you will like Arcane Quest Adventures as well, though it's sligthly more action and less strategic. Remember to share with your friends
Arcane Quest Adventures - Release date Arcane Quest Adventures, the first spin-off on the Arcane Quest series, will be released in approx 2 weeks. The BETA has almost ended, and most of the problems have been fixed. There are so many news and enhancements over AQ2 that it's almost impossible to make a list. But the key point is, it's an easier game to pickup and play, there's perhaps less strategy involved (as you control only one hero, plus one mercenary), but semi-permanent deaths (with few checkpoints) and action/fast paced gameplay has increased the difficulty. Here's the official game trailer: Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel Cheers
Good news Still didn't finish AQ2, but I'll definitely get AQA at release anyways. @kurtalb1: Saw your comment only now. You're in for a ride, 20 hours is just scratching the surface. I have 60 hours on the clock, and am maybe 2/3 through the game (rough estimate). Plus, that's my second game, the first one I abandoned after I made quite a few bad choices and felt like I couldn't move on easily anymore. I think I'm close to 100 hours in total, more than I spent on WHQ.
Arcane Quest Adventures is now available on the Apple Store! Here's the official thread: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=270294 And a secret.. AQ3 development has been started.. and it's gonna be huge!
To you and anybody else who is interested. I'm currently working on Arcane Quest 3, can't share lots of info right now, but it's gonna be.. well you will see I'm looking for RPG experts for a few advices on the combat and levelling modes. Especially the combat dice system, which is a point I would like to change/improve. So if you have ever played games like D&D, Pathfinder, Descent etc., feel free to contact me (e-mail or PM). Cheers
