People mentioned my inquiry about bump mapping. I just wanted to know if it were a possibility. Why not wonder about texture quality? Or whether the game will maximize the newest devices and scale down for older devices? ---------- Lastly, will this the iPad version cost as much as the iPhone version? If not, I would like to know why? What could be different with the game that would cause the iPad version to be more expensive? If its going to cost more, I hope to see what Reckless Racing did and give us more content, for paying more. I don't know if this game will be " universal" or not, so if the iPhone runs 75% of an iPad resolution, why is there not a seperate version foriPhone 4 and iPod touch 4, to separate older iPhones and iPods? I'm sick of paying more because I have an expensive device or for resolution size, when everyone expects retina display optimization on their other devices and argues how much better those textures look than the iPad.... Sorry for rant. Want answers. :0)
I would strongly caution against relying on what Epic thinks their game is worth (which is looking less and less like a WRPG and more like Soul Caliber). Consider the equally powerful Rage-derived game at a much lower price point, and be equally cautious. If you're going to benchmark price, compare with gog.com's library, as that is where your game will likely match in terms of content. $10 high end, $6 low end. Anything less, you're selling yourself short. Anything more, you're making something out of Aralon that it likely is not.
bump mapping is just too slowly currently to be utilized to any useful effect. tried it - and wasn't happy with the results. on the seperate versions issue - we may have to do a seperate version for iPad - because the iPad version runs smoother in Open GLES 2.0 but the iPhone version (even retina) seems to be running much smoother in Open GLES 1.1 and you can't do both in the same build, as far as I know. We'll have to see where that goes...
Yeah, after seeing Epic's new trailer for their game, I lost a HUGE amount of interest in it. The menu system/weapon system looks arcadey, the fighting looks arcadey, the game is even called "Infinity Blade!" Does that scream arcade game or what? Boy did that game drop like a pile of bricks off my radar. Oh well. Aralon looks definitely more what I want!
It's not an issue of the device's capabilities. It's an issue of (handheld) market expectations and development resources. If PSP games, which typically have budgets ten or twenty times larger than Aralon's, cannot muster bump mapping (or even normal mapping), then it seems unreasonable to expect it from an indie iPhone/iPad game. In theory, the iPhone 4 has more advanced shading and global lighting capabilities than the PSP, but I can't think of a single iPhone game that looks as good as God of War: Ghost of Sparta. It's not all about the hardware specs: budgets matter, too.
I wonder if the games texture work will be crisp. That's usually the downfall, visually to most games. I'd rather the game take more system space, than take less and look muddy. This is my most wanted game. I'm sorry to sound so critical, however, I believe my questions are valid. Price wise, to lure iPad owners, an initial 7.99 - 10$ introductory price is the best bet. That and, since the AppStore on the iPad allows for big banners of new games, work with apple to be a featured title. Word of mouth will carry this title far, beyond it's introduction. I know Josh mentioned no beta tester requests. I have never tested a title, but having had my iPad preordered before release, being an avid gamer and just now even acquiring Kinect... I have a lot of my time dedicated to gaming. I'd test this if I could. Moving on, will there be a new video soon? The first, was so magnificent that'd I'd sell my Grandmothers ashes for more info.
we'll have to do some kind of hands on video at some point, and some new screenshots from the iPhone 4. waaaaaah..... maybe as soon as I finish this area I'm working on.
I could help abit when the beta is available for testing. For videos, I have managed to get the brightness stuff on my camera under controll now!

Gamecube and capable. Will Aralon employ beautiful spell effects? That are vibrant and light up the area and are dynamic?
In RPGs my class of choice usually is the caster/Mage: yes. It ranks pretty high. I like spell effects. Effects that look good.
Aralon I just hope that this game will be pushed all the way back to Christmas 2011. For some reason all iphone games get pushed way back and everyone forgets about. For example Eliminate, does anyone remember that fiasco?
You hope this game is pushed back to 2011 CHRISTMAS? Sorry I cant tell if your being sarcastic or not
Hope not! Looking forward to this holiday. Aralon Battle heart Dungeon Defenders (unreal 3 engine) Infinity blade (Epic Games) Mutant Bash (Id Software) Shadow Sun And possibly, if released Dungeon Hunter 2 and Nova 2
