This is how I get most of my games, I along with most TA readers, wait for either sales or freebies. Sometimes a new game I'm really excited for I will get but mostly I wait. I'd love FF Tactics but not for $16, as an example.
The non gaming section is my favorite part of appvent. There are so many websites listing free ios games. It is hard to find reviews of other apps let alone a list of free ones. iOS sites tend to be about games, rumours for the next model and sales stats. Is there a site that reviews other categories than games? The photography blog I read went through a bunch of camera apps and I found a travel blog looking a some mapping apps. I am looking for that all in one place. I guess that is unrealistic. It would require a broad range of expertise.
I have looked at lots and lots and lots of sites - and no - there really are no useful, one size fits all, sites that concentrate on non-gaming apps. Of course, the last time I really looked was several months ago, so that could have changed. Sorry - but at least you found the best gaming forum website here at TA - that is a nice consolation prize...
iOS Apps forum here @ tA: http://forums.toucharcade.com/forumdisplay.php?f=5 Pretty good thread on iOS software for musicians p. e.: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=890
yup, I'm VERY impressed with the 3 releases so far. I already had all 3 of em... but they're top notch games! Hopefully something will come along that I don't have yet... =oP But for those of you who are freebie mongers - so far, you can count yourselves VERY lucky! I waited and waited and waited for Linkoidz to go on sale... ended up buying it about a month ago... Katana Jack - nice arcady platformer, and Cavorite - one of the best puzzle platformers I've ever played. If they keep this up - 30 odd TOP NOTCH games will be free this month because of Appvent... WOOHOO!!
yayaya... I spend way too much money on iPod games... =oP But I don't have an XBOX or PS3 weighing me down. My iPod is my MAIN gaming console... so instead of spending $60-$120 a month on a couple console games - I'm spending $60-$120 a month on iPod games... =oP
Same, iPod is my main gaming console. Hoping to change that this Christmas, but if not, I'll then just buy a big giftcard to finally get me from my financial app store 0 credits crisis.
That is a lot! I have spent only around $200 in a year and a half, but amongst all the paid games, and some free ones... I have a massssssive backlog of games that I haven't even opened. And believe me, I do junk games which I don't really like pretty quickly, wherein I give second chances to a game only if people have really liked it on forums here. I don't buy a lot of high-scoring, endless sort of games, which basically is a large part of the app store. But the games that I like, I really put in a lot of time into them. For e.g. 1-bit-ninja... getting all those special coins, bike baron - 3 starring all levels, and then story based games that I finish... I don't think I could have ever played through 2000$ worth of games. Heck I have stopped downloading free games unless they are highly recommended too. Thinking about it now... THe games that I do invest time in (20% of them)... they make up for all the other paid games that I pay for and do not like (80% of them)
Indeed, for me it's more like, the 5% I spend time with makes up for the wasted money on worse titles. I can safely say I wouldn't have purchased 2/3 of the games I have in the past three years if I had a choice. I rarely, if ever, download free games. Didn't even bother downloading Sims Medieval. If I haven't heard of the game, there's no chance I'll be taking the time to check it out. When you buy as many games as me, you have a much higher expectation. I cringe when I see people post, "amazing game," on the sales thread for "game x" just because it's free. I most definitely don't share their opinion. Space Miner is pretty much the only freebie in months that I thought was actually a game worth downloading for free. It's spectacular even. Not only that, it's easy for me to just delete a game should I find it boring in the slightest since I have so many other options. There's no second chances from me like you mentioned. On the bright side, for the better part of the past three years, I've stayed away from every other platform so I'm not actually spending more than the usual gamer (about 60$ monthly). Been buying 3DS games since May however, and games off of Steam since September. In any case, I love the platform, but I've definitely slowed down in my spendings. I thought Space Miner was rubbish Deleted it after a few minutes of playing. Dual-stick games aren't my cup of tea I guess. Playing it reduces my capillary refill and all that! By the way, if you're into match-3 games, get Azkend. For me, it is the best m3 game ever made.
I usually like dual-stick games, but I found Space Miner to be an overrated piece of poop... Mainly cause I don't like asteroid games...
