Thanks, I'll add it to the watch list for now. Getting a backlog of music apps = not good.

Speaking of generative music apps has anyone tried SpaceWiz? Watched a few vids but I'm still not sure if it's something that's "easy" to incorporate into a project (how random is it etc). Is there alot of diversity to the sounds it can make? Looking at the videos it seems more like a really fun time waster? Worth 10 bux tho?

New iGrand Piano from IK Multimedia released today. App which is completely focused on piano sounds (Grands, Upright, Baby, Jazz, and more). Exactly what I was looking for. Some minor editing features like lid and brightness. Appears to be nice MIDI implementation and Audio Copy included. My favorite part of SampleTank were the pianos but I have still wanted an app specifically focused on pianos. I am hoping to find some time today at work to try out the FREE version and see how it performs.

App info is currently processing and/or the app is not yet fully available for sale on the US App Store.

BM2 700 mb and NS 107mb, but I nanostudio might put some stuff as documents/data but no more then 50-60 or so mb above the 107mb.

Borderlands gradual is out, looks fun.

NanoStudio is taking 105.8MB on my iPhone right now (that includes some works in progress & completed songs)

If I remember correctly BeatMaker2 was like 820 MB, which is why it's not on my phone anymore. Too many included samples IMHO - they should do what ThumbJam does and let people download samples if they want them.

ThumbJam is the bomb. I'm not a midi person, but I can play with TJ for hours.

    About 0.5 gb.

If apps like Beatmaker 2 or whatever are too large, just use iFunbox (a free idevice explorer/file managment program for your computer) and browse/delete whatever you want from apps (like crappy samples ala beatmaker2). No jailbreak needed.

That 25 key seems really pricey but I have no clue about the build quality. Have you checked out other stuff like Korgs microkey, 25 key version is like half the price of that line 6. And microkey also support core midi (Apples iOS midi). But again I have no clue about the build quality, but just a tip since the price points are so different.

Also there's a huge difference in playability on a 2 octave or a 4 octave keyboard. For me 3 octaves is definitely minimum for a portable keyboard. And 5 on a more stationary keyboard. Although with something like nanokey I probably wouldn't care.

I looked at the korg micro key but I'm not sure if it will work with my iPod touch 4thgen. It looks like you need the iPad camera connection kit , and I'm not sure but I don't think it works with the iPod touch.

Oh ok. It is core midi compliant tho, so with the right cable/interface like any other core midi keyboard it should work (any power issues aside). Throw an email to korg asking about any issues with iPhone/iPods maybe. I mean there doesn't seem to be alot of choices out there. Akai synthstation25 obviously. And maybe their other smaller MPK midi keyboards does core midi?

Personally I'm waiting for some new lighting connector midi accessories to drop. Don't really wanna buy Apples overpriced adapters.

I was looking around and the irig keys looks pretty good. I'm not sure about when it comes out thought, but it looks like it'll work good. I'm also wondering what apps to get , I know I'm getting nanostudio, but I'm not sure if i want beatmaker 2 or xweton music studio. Does anyone have an opinion on which is better ?

Beatmaker is better then music studio since you can use your own sounds and it plays nice with other iOS music apps with all the bells and whistles like all kinds of midi support and audio copy/paste audiobus etc. With music studio your stuck with the relatively few sounds they supply (most unlocks via IAP), it's not a shite app but your gonna be very restricted with it if you want to use your own sounds etc. Beatmaker 2 is just a way more complete package, kinda like nanostudio also in many ways is.

About the cables, same as a line 6 I would assume or a midi interface like line 6 mobilizer or IKs overpriced iRig midi adapter. Don't quote me on anything tho! And there might be the hassle of using a powered USB hub with the microkey if it can't draw enough power from ur iPod (unless it does have its own power adapter).

    here's my 2 cents:

BM2 always feels very sluggish to me, like after placing more than five tracks it starts to stutter and hiccup on my iPhone 4. nanostudio is much better at handling mass amount of tracks. if i really need to have proper audio tracks i would usually use garageband. also, i heard fl studio mobile is gonna get audio tracks in the next major version, so that should be pretty sweet.

Yea nano is way fast. Works really good on a 3GS iPhone as well.

Audio tracks in GarageBand, can you even add a basic 3 band EQ to each track? Isn't there like only volume and pan per track? I know BM2 is getting a better EQ in the next update, it only have that sucky 3band one now. But it's way better then nothing if the mix sounds muddy. But if BM2 can't handle more then a handful of audio tracks with no inserts without starting to stutter GB would be better obviously. If iPod/iPhone is the only option and we were only talking about audio tracks multitrack daw would probably the best choice.

i really like GB's software instruments and audio loops, and i think BM2 instruments are generally quite mediocre, plus some of them just too big (i mean, 40mb for a keyboard? yeah, high quality samples, but.. come on! this is a hand-held device with limited resources). so even though you don't get a per-track EQ, it's still great if you are aiming towards rock tune. i think, combined with NS, GB+NS > BM2+NS. I do like how BM2 plays with other apps in the import/export though.
