there is now SOME way. As it responds to Korgs WIST. The pitfall here si that you need an additional iPod touch at least to run the fresh syncKontrol app. this one can be synced with any DAW over WIFI. But this app is only available in the Japanese Store for now. I need to try it but check this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeQ-G5j3r-8 It shows the monotribe, also a nice noisebox, but as syncKontrol does WIST it should work, too. Need to try it tomorrow for myself to make sure.
Anybody out there waiting for FL Studio Mobile? It's out. Was hoping to hear some impressions from the TA crowd before I plunked down the $15 for it. Looks like it's mostly Music Studio with a nice looking step sequencer (and more/different instruments.) No audio cut/paste or sample import at this time. iPhone version does support Synthstation 25... App info is currently processing and/or the app is not yet fully available for sale on the US App Store. FL studio mobile looks amazing! I want impressions though. Also, modizer just got an awesome update, a must-have app for chiptune lovers.
@drelbs + coconutbowling - I TOFTT on iPad FruityLoops...first impressions only: It's extremely polished, in a way that Xewton Music Studio never will be (sorry guys, I still love ya'). The layout is quite similar, actually, but everything feels much more refined. The fully-loaded effects section even has the warm glow of tubes behind the amp grill; nice touch. It has a scaling drum machine that elegantly switches to full-screen. I personally prefer the drum interface in Beatmaker 2, but it's not a wide gap. In many ways, I do prefer NanoStudio, but the iPad version has yet to be released, so it's a bit apples and oranges. No complaints about the step sequencer; it's money. The graphical user interface really feels professional. This is clearly made by developers that know their business. Or do they... There is no audio cut/paste. You cannot record or even import samples. Lolwut?!? You are stuck with stock samples, which aren't stellar (although, to be fair, that's subjective). Their is no desktop counterpart for this app on the Mac. Huh, really? What exactly is it that I'm going to produce with this app? I guess I could pound out an idea on the road, then recreate it entirely on the Mac, but why would I? Maybe the target market for this is the braindead people that haven't switched to a Mac for their music production, but I would think even they would feel hobbled without their samples. I've never used their desktop version, because Windows makes baby jesus cry, but I really wanted to like this. The top-notch graphic design and attention to detail mean this will be a great app for some people, but functionality seems critically flawed, so I am not likely to be one of those people. When you pay a premium price, you expect premium features and this app lacks a couple obvious and necessary ones, imo. If the aformentioned downsides won't bother you, then you'll love this app; it's slick, responsive, and beautiful. I would love to hear other impressions, because this is probably perfect for a hobbiest, but I thought this would be a full-on mobile DAW. Maybe my hopes were too high that this would be the all-in-one app to rule them all, so you may want to wait for a lifetime FruityLoops user to chime in, but for now, I'm sticking with my current workflow.
Holy crap! Bought. Have had SID Player and E.M.P. on forever, I can't believe I never saw this! Much more exciting than FL Studio Mobile, IMHO.
Yeah, Modizer owns. I picked up one for the iPhone last night, called [app=http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/8bit-studio/id442041384?mt=8]8-bit Studio[/app], that samples commodore sounds. Not sure how they could beat SID Player Pro, so this is not a recommendation. I just haven't had a chance to try it out yet. BTW, there is a separate thread for FL Studio and someone there loves it, so you all may want to check that thread for impressions too, if you are thinking to buy.
Already had 8Bit Studio on my wish list. Didn't look to have that much to it (If I need C64 samples I just boot up my SIDStation. ) I do agree that the FL Studio UI looks much cleaner than Music Studio's (in fact it's uncanny, as some of the screens are nearly identical, but look very different...)
Hmmm. I don't know. I was fairly disappointed with the ad/video of FL Studio a few weeks back. It is not even close to being a portable FL Studio. Set sounds? No sampling? Too many other limitations and too many other great options in the AppStore. This did not make it to my wishlist. But I'll keep my eye on it.
Well it´s basically a re-skinned Xewton Music Studio (the same guy´s made this). They added drumpads/stepsequencer part and sampled sounds from FL´s catalouge. I do think using your own samples is in the pipeline tho.
Do you have a link to information on the Yamaha TSR-1? A Google search only leads me right back to your post. I used the Horizon synth in practice today and may use it on Wednesday night. I had created a sound for another song, but the sound wasn't exactly what I was looking for. If I have time, I'll tweak it further to better fit the song we are doing.
sorry i misnamed it which is why you wont find a lot Should have been TNR-i http://the-palm-sound.blogspot.com/2011/06/more-details-on-tnr-i.html http://the-palm-sound.blogspot.com/search?q=TNR-i
Can't wait to see that - though I wonder if it'll have as much bang-for-the-buck as SoundGrid (currently $3) Still, if I can sit on the couch with my wife and daughter and we can all play together Tenori-On style, it'll easily be worth the price! EDIT: No user voice?
Thanks for the info! Wow! The synth/audio apps are really getting nice. Too many interesting apps now.
I still love me some Nanostudio. I have Beatmaker, Rebirth, and Garageband as well, but Nanostudio seems to just...well, work. Are there any solid apps that work well WITH Nanostudio (for iPad or iPhone/touch)? Also, I looked for a nice comparison between Nanostudio and Beatmaker 2, but I can't seem to find the "preferred" DAW for the mobile platform. Thoughts here? FL Studio, while neat in concept, seems to be a flop...Which is really too bad given what it COULD have been. Oh and one other thing - for any of the DAW's, is there a good place to get packs of new samples that have been put together for the platform? I have a few for Nanostudio that I found on the NS forums, but I was wondering more if there was a more "specific" hangout/board for mobile stuff like this.
nicoga3000: I still vastly prefer NS for music work on my iPhone over the others. FL Studio keeps tempting me with it's shiny, candy-like buttons but it looks to be just too limited. (That, and I'd much rather spend the money on Yamaha's Tenori-On, if it'd only come out in the US!) Anything that supports audio copy/paste should be useful with NanoStudio. As for audio packs, I'm surprised that noone has set that up yet - though if you go to the Intua and Blip Interactive forums there are people pointing out good free samples. Noise.io, Jasuto Pro, Thumb Jam & Sound Grid all have the ability to share samples/presets/projects online, I'd love to see the same functionality in NanoStudio or BM2. I've gotten a lot of my favorite samples from Reason (and the ReFills on the Reason forums) but a great way to get a ton of samples is look for issues of Computer Music (magazine) and either subscribe for a while, or just buy issues with samples you're interested in. (They do a different theme each month, there's a DVD in each magazine, sometimes an extra CD as well containing samples, software, instructional video and project files and sample tracks submitted to them that they critique in the magazine.) The one thing that BM2 does that I wish I could do in NanoStudio is to map multiple samples to a track so I could use some of the nice multi-sampled sets I have. You can somewhat get around this by using multiple tracks for different ranges/samples.
Woah, I can use my Reason files with NS? That's...amazing. I hadn't even thought about that! And I agree about FL - I want to buy it, I really do...But it just sounds like it's got far too many pitfalls to be worth my moneys. And also, I'll grab my Computer Music DVD's I have lying around and try and go through those samples, too. Buying the 32 gig iPad 2 this time was definitely worth the cash, haha.
You'll need an extractor to get the files out of the ReFills first... but that's easily found online.
Ok so I've recently been messing around with instruments and been making parts for a song, is there any app any of you would recommend for putting the pieces together to make a song? I've been looking at TabToolKit but I'm still unsure. Any help would be most appreciated, thank you
If you're taking slices of audio and want to sequence them, Beatmaker 2 might be your best choice. If you simply want to dub parts of a song together, FourTrack would work well for that. Monle is an alternate take on this.
