    Amidio apps on sale

All iPhone apps by Amidio Inc. are on sale right now:

    Noise.io Pro Synth - $4.99 (60% off)
    Touch DJ 2 - $9.99 (50% off)
    Seline Music Instrument - $1.99 (70% off)
    JR Hexatone Pro - $1.99 (80% off)
    Piano Pro - FREE
    iHolophone - $0.99 (80% off)

iHolophone is the only Amidio app I don't own, so do your research on that one, but all the others may be worth a look, at these prices.

God, I don't have any of those but they are all so tempting...especially Noise.io and Touch DJ 2...

In fact I couldn't wait and just picked up Jasuto Pro and iHolophone because I didn't want to miss those two while they're both on sale for 80%. Even if I can't find a use for either one, the reward far outweighs the risk in this case...

My big question is which of Touch DJ 2 or Sonorasaurus people here prefer now that they are the same price. I haven't ever tried DJing at all, but I do love the music and wouldn't mind trying my hand at it. Heck, not being a musician hasn't stopped me from enjoying just messing around with plenty of other audio apps.

Bought Noise.io, which I've been eying for a loooong time.

How do you find Seline? I'm not so sure I care for the alternate key layout - can it do anything sound-wise that I couldn't with Noise.io?

Won a promo code for JR Hexatone Pro some time ago, and while it's pretty neat & functional, I found it a little complex to use and therefore didn't use it much. Never really considered iHolophone as I already have (and love) ThumbJam.

For those on the fence about Jasuto Pro (currently $2) if you are like me and delight in simply making sound, then you can do no better than this app, it's abilities are amazing if you're willing to tinker around enough. (I usually find myself just toying around with sounds, then music follows, and finally I melt my brain with the music looping and going nuts with filtering and effects... :)

Any advice for a noob with music apps? Been playing bass and guitar for years, smattering of piano, suck at percussion, but like messing around. The Amido sale looks great, what should I get? Thanks for the help.

Amidio's new app Omguitar is on sale a couple bucks cheaper.

@ medianotzu - Noise.io owned the iPhone market a year+ ago, but plenty of competitors have entered the scene since then. I like Touch DJ 2, particularly their simple user interface, but I would probably give the nod to Sonorasaurus (which is also on sale for $9.99). I solely use the iPad for DJ apps, because the extra screen real estate is win.

The top 2 iPad DJ apps right now are Sonorasaurus Rex and DJay, which are both stellar. SR has a tech interface, DJ has dual turntables. SR does not provide auto-beatmatching, DJ does (although you can still use the old skool manual tap method on SR). SR has a really nice dual waveform window, DJ has that, but it's not paired vertically. Both potentially require you to jump through some loops to get songs loaded, depending on what file formats you use.

I know there is some key thing that I'm forgetting, but you really can't go wrong with either one of these apps, with regard to features, so it really comes down to interface. SR has the attitude that we're not fooling anyone, these aren't turntables, so it has a really nice UI perks that make it feel like a quality laptop mixer. DJ, on the other hand, tries to get as close to the real thing as they can. While I appreciate the effort, I own turntables and this ain't them. That sounded more harsh than intended, especially since this app provides the perfect affordance for scratching. I actually think it is amazing that either of these apps is available on a portable platform, to be honest, and they are both money.

@drelbs - I like the interface on Seline, because the attempted to reinvent the keyboard to fit the device and your hands. Very clever, really, but I don't use it as a serious tool for making music, personally. It has 20-30 instruments, each of which you can tweak with 8 or so settings. You record, play it back, and play over the previously laid track. You can save your tracks, but I'm not sure if you can export them, nor would I really want to, but that's just me. Even though it's not my top pick, it's still worth $2.

+1 drelbs RE: Jasuto Pro, it's a steal at that price, although some will find the methodology a bit obtuse.

@pluto6 - I've only used iShred on the iPhone and it was fine, but amidio's new app, Omguitar, looks amazing for the iPad. I'm not really in the target market for guitar apps, though.

@all - I've been meaning to do a full blown write-up on all the music apps for months, but life got in the way. Other than the aforementioned apps, i recommend Nanostudio, ThumbJam, Music Studio (Xewton), iSequence, Rebirth (iPad version only), MultiTrack DAW, and TouchAble (only for those that own Ableton).

BTW, one more thing about Amidio is that they don't flow with the updates, historically, but once they get all of their core apps released (two more, I believe), they are going to direct their attention toward improving their line.

Thanks for the response flippy! I hope you can get the time to post more in-depth about some music apps like you had planned to, and start with the DJ apps! :D

@pluto6: I'm more of a music hobbyist, but the apps I keep coming back to are:

Nano Studio ($15) - This is like having a Digital Audio Workstation in your pocket. Great interface and very functional.

Jasuto Pro (Curently on sale for $2) - The only real modular synth for iOS. Can be a little hard to wrap your head around (especially on the small screen, is nice on the iPad) but you can create some really unique sounds with this.

ThumbJam ($7) - Very flexable sample player with a great interface and a ton of pre-made sound sets available online.

iShred ($5) - I can play about 4 chords on a guitar in real life. I've performed songs live (bar amateur night) using this. ;) I've played with a number of guitar apps, and like the UI best on this one. I really wish their (acoustic) Guitar app could be purchased IAP in this one so I didn't have to keep two apps on. ;)

iVoxel ($12) - The only real vocoder on iOS, and it's a good one. Works fine live, the YouTube videos are misleading IMHO.

Bebot ($2) - This one is just fun to play with (one of my daughter's favorite apps!) search "rudess meets bebot" on Youtube for some serious usage of the app.

Pocket Organ C3B3 ($3) - It's a drawbar organ. ;) Sucks that they charge so much for extra presets though. Plenty of drawbar patterns available online.

An app I haven't gotten around to playing with much but I expect good things out of is Filtatron, which is an honest to goodness Moog ladder filter for five bucks! (The guy who wrote Jasuto Pro was involved in creating it as well.)

@Djflippy, drelbs, and median - Thanks for all the advice, especially the list from you drelbs - gives me a lot of things to start looking at to start messing with. I am bummed that I missed the Thumbjam sale! It is still showing on Appshopper as a price increase, even though it was weeks ago... but what a great price!

I picked up a couple of the ones from Amidio's the Jasuto Pro, and iholophone just because they looked interesting. I am not sure I would know what to do with some of them - like noise.io.

I'll keep an eye on this thread a lot more tightly now...

I picked up [app]OMGuitar[/app] on sale the other day and it's phenomenal, IMO. I'm not a guitar player, so I can't comment on how good it mimic guitars IRL, but it's fun and relatively easy to make listenable music.

I think I like the look of the strings, as they're plucked, better in iShred, but in almost every other category OMGuitar is the clear winner. Changing chords while strumming is dead easy. For those with meaty paws, they put large buttons at the end of each string, which are simple to use, although dissimilar to how guitars are normally played. Personally, I see that as a plus, because Amidio typically does a great job of building apps from the ground up for the iDevice and this is probably their most successful effort, in that regard.

You have settings for distortion, reverb, delay, feedback, and compressor, with a slider, when appropriate. In my view, it's impossible to emulate the sound of a real acoustic guitar, but they've done a fine job, within the limitations of current technology. They also offer several different types of guitars to choose from.

I doubt many people here will pick this up, due to the price point, which is too bad. If you happen to be independantly wealthy and decide to purchase this, please report your findings, particularly if you are a guitar player. That way, people will have a better understanding of what it is and is not, before taking the plunge. If it ever goes on sale at half price, though, my advice would be to snap it up.

Looking for a musics app that can be fun without any real musical knowledge. Which one would you suggest?

Here's a sample recording of me playing through 'multitrack daw' app using the iRig. You can set loops, punch in, trim. Normally I record guitar through guitar pro software on my pc, but this app replaces it.

I've been looking at the various piano apps, trying to decide which one to get for my iPad. I am debating between Pianist Pro and Echo Piano. I have Pianist for my iPod Touch and reallly like the sound. I am not concerned with advanced functions on the app--I basically just want a piano that sounds nice and has a good interface.since this is such an active thread I am hoping you guys can give me a few suggestions...

Thanks - got 'em. Not sure how much different Guitar Studio is from iShred, but these music apps are fun to play around with. I dont know that I will ever use them for real, but just for making some sounds without needing to have an instrument around, they are pretty fun.
