Yeah the Daily Mail has posted a bit, all they've heard so far is they started the conference with the iPhone Antenna Song from YouTube and Steve Jobs has said there's no need for a recall because it's not that big a deal. He also said he knows they're not perfect, but it's a problem with all smartphones, not just theirs.

    ...and what sammysin said, obviously.

It cost that much? It looks like a £1 bit of plastic.

They can't make enough bumpers so they'll send you a case? It'd better be of superior quality to those Wiimote protectors Nintendo was giving out.

£25 mate, £2.50 delivery. It's worth about £10. It's much nicer in real life, but still no way worth almost £30.

I like how their fix is saying it happens to all phones (it doesn't) and then giving out Bumpers until Sept 30th. Does this mean new hardware model after Sept that does fix it but Apple don't want you to know that cause sales will then dry out?

Dunno why they can't just say "we ****ed up, we'll repair your phones with a small fix at the store" lol. the iPhone only costs $180 to make so they can afford to lose abit of profit.

Who was it that posted a picture of their iPhone 4 with the bumper on? I can't find it.

Well, I guess saying "well all the other ones do it too" is better than saying "there's nothing wrong with our device, you're doing it wrong", if only by a little bit.

according to the stats here (less drops and returns than 3GS), it looks like they didn't really screw up at all.

steve said ". The iPhone 4 is an exterior antenna, so it doesn't live inside the case, we have a larger battery for better battery life. We try to have our cake and eat it too, we try to have great design and great performance."

dose the iphone4 really have a better battery life? maybe the touch gen 4 will have too when it comes out in sept.

It's a typical tactic to lessen the damage if you will. I don't like it in general because it comes off as insincere and arrogant. This approach has the potential to backfire in terms of public opinion. Admittedly, I was turned off when Jobs started quoting stats on how this is a problem with all smartphones. The reality is that it's not and deflecting it is questionable. I think in this case, it would've been benefited Apple more if Jobs showed some humility. Not that I expected it, but he would've scored more points with longer term benefits.

It sounds great to give away free bumpers to everyone, but people tend to have long memories when it comes this kind of stuff. As for Sept. 30, my guess is that Apple is working on an internal hardware fix which explains why AT&T is not shipping anymore more new phones for several weeks. Of course, there will be those who feel that they are carrying a defective product when the newer fixed phones hit the market.
