What I don't get is why would anyone want a tablet? The only reason anyone would want it is to read digital magazines or books. Games I hear you say. well its not really portable and pick-up-and-play like the ipod touch/phone. Also, how would you play games? Would you hold it up with one hand and play with the other? I wouldn't expect it to be that light and i'd prefer not to. Would you sit it on a table and lean over it to play a game? I really don't know. Am I missing something here? If not then there really is not point of the Apple Tablet, or tablets in general apart from reading books (for which I would not pays hundreds of pounds/dollars for). Obviously when the time comes for the Apple Event, I'm sure I will be awed by what Apple comes out with, but will I get it? No. EDIT:Ok, so it's out now and here are the things missing from it that we all were looking forward to: (posted later on in the thread): No GPS No Camera (with LED Flash) No Multitasking No OLED Screen An extremely disappointing 256 MB of RAM! No Additional Touch Gestures No Videocalling/conferencing/iChat No Handwriting Recognition or Support for a Stylus No Wireless Syncing or File Transfers No File Management or Freedom to download files (even documents) from online No Ability to run custom Apps not preapproved by Apple and sold via the App Store A Very Low Resolution Display with 25% fewer PPPs than the iPhone or iPod Touch No integrated TV antenna or Radio antenna (They even developed a HD DTV Tuner for use in cellphones to allow users to pick up OTA HDTV signals on the go! Why they didn't include this technology in this device I won't understand) No Video Out According to Apple's page on the product, the maximum resolution it is capable of playing MPEG4s at is 640x480 resolution at 30 fps. Not even HD! It features a 1 Ghz processor that significantly slower than just about every single notebook on the market today. No OTA Sync With Apple TV or Servers To Stream Video No Low Reflective Screen Mode for high contrast Ebook Reading that doesn't hurt your eyes Only 64 mbs of HDD space No Gamepad attachment for Gaming With Physical Buttons/Tactile Feedback No bluetooth, or ability to connect to a bluetooth mouse/keyboard No RFID/IR to use it as a remote, or to tag it to yourself No Replacable/Removable Batteries No Java or Flash support (no hulu.com) No ability to connect to an extrernal hdd, or even to pop in an SDCard Mad
What I dont get is why are people making threads here talking about how good/bad iTablet will be for a specific purpose when we dont even know what exactly it is. Wait for it to be announced atleast. Then feel free to discuss how good/bad it is. Mad
I see madmud101's point, though. Tablets aren't very comfortable to use. In most cases, it would probably be better to just use a netbook or an iPhone / iPod touch. If Apple plans on releasing a tablet, I really hope it's small. 9 inches (231 mm) by 4.8 inches (124.2 mm) would be a nice. That's basically 2 times bigger than the iPhone, a good size for movies and books.
I think part of the problem is that they're not marketing this thing for what it is. Who the hell wants an "iPad"? Godzilla iPod Touch, $500 Godzilla iPhone, $650 Like a giant fire breathing igunana, monster sized iDevices will poorly voicedub their way into your soul.
i'll be glad in a couple of days when we're all familiar with it's specs. right now i have questions. like.... * no flash? * will the dock/usb slot (?) be open to third party's to develop cameras and so forth? * what about the European client base? * sound or speaker system? cant think of any more. Just looks like a bigger faster ipod touch to me. (but with added proper internet facilities) i'll probably treat myself around Christmas
If you want an e-reader, buy a Kindle and save yourself $200. If you want an iPhone or iPod Touch, save yourself $300. I'll reserve judgment on the hygiene product, but I'm also not running out to buy one. No flash, no expansion slots, and didn't hear any sound. I didn't check, but I doubt the battery is removable either. As for the European client base, I'm sure it will be in the supply chain by summer at a special Euro price
Albie! Your presence is needed in the The Horrible Vikings thread! Grace says she misses you, and left us a nice surprise!
At this point I'm thinking Steve Jobs saw the HTC Touch HD2 and said "THAT'S BIG? WE CAN MAKE ONE TWICE THAT SIZE!". Then Johnathan Ives said "Well, yeah but would would be the poi.." Then Jobs cut him off and said "JUST DO IT DAMNIT!" and smashed his fist through the wall.
The iPad is for those that want an iPhone or iPod touch, but want to overcompensate for lacking size in...other areas
I think it'll be interesting to see the Pad in action. Personally I was hoping 4.0 would be announced more than listening to the speil on the iPad.
