In a few hours the new Apple tablet will be finally unveiled. This thread is for all the ones who want to talk about this live event on Touch Arcade. Sponsored by the puppet Kiimö.
Where can we watch it online? Or where is the best place to keep up to date on what is happening there.
My favourite site is Engadget, but I'm sure there are many more sites like that. Not sure if it's possible to watch the streaming online. Obviously it wouldn't be an official live streaming.
http://live.gizmodo.com/ That site will not go down (others will. Guarantee that). Will auto-refresh too so you can leave one browser window just on that.
So does anyone know exactly what time this thing starts? I've gotta dash out in 45 minutes and meet a friend.
Asus just announced their tablet. Of all 365 days in the year, why the hell did they choose to pick today - the day Apple will announce their tablet. lol, they fail. http://www.engadget.com/
Because if Apple's unveiling is underwhelming, Asus comes in from under them with what is likely to be a less expensive solution. And in this economy....
But the chances are slim. The media will probably turn a blind eye to the Asus tablet, no matter how crappy Apple's Tablet is.
from Gizmodo live chat: Is This the Outside of the Apple Tablet? As far as the actual hardware goes, the size, the look, and the configuration of the apparent unibody-ish backside of the tablet all make sense. The original photos were yanked almost immediatelyvery interestingbut not before we saved them. The photos showed up on a message board on Chinese website Weiphone, and give a clear view of the rear of the device. These look like leaks from a component manufacturer, so we're not seeing the whole product here, just one of its constituent partsremember, Apple doesn't actually manufacture hardware, so plenty of people outside of the company have seen bits and pieces of this thing. Anyway, this may be our tablet: We've probably seen the screen and one piece of software, and now we've just as probably seen what the exterior looks like. That is, one part iPhone, three parts Unibody MacBook, eight parts new. Send an email to John Herrman, the author of this post, at [email protected].
Stuff.tv are starting their feed right now. EDIT: OMG Breaking News!!! Steve Jobs will make an appearence tonight wearig a black turtle neck and possibly glasses.
Sure. But that's not the point. The media turned a blind eye to the Asus netbook oh so long ago, and look how that turned out. The media turns a blind eye for the most part to new PC hardware from Asus and other manufacturers compared to Apple's unveiling of new Mac hardware, but Linux/Windows PC sales still dwarf Mac sales. I like Apple's marketing. They're leagues better than the litany of PC manufacturers out there. But marketing alone, press alone, doesn't equate to getting the most sales in all cases. Consider this: Asus announces this today, and Apple's unveiling is underwhelming. So what happens? Those who have read/heard about the Asus tablet will then compare the two. This will happen on some blogs out there, particularly from the Apple-hating members of the "press" rolleyes. Price will be brought up, as will power and ability to run software. Such comparisons might mean Asus grabs a few sales of their own. Mind you, I don't think they'll outsell Apple's tablet...but a sale is a sale. And there's something to be said for being fresh in mind.
