Sounds like they're mainly pushing it as an e-book reader. All interest and excitement has now been thoroughly extinguished, I guess I'll go out and buy a tablet PC.

It runs the iPhone OS? Not impressed with that, at all.

Me neither, unless a boost of extra power somehow opens it up in ways we never thought possible.

If it's running iPhone OS and it can't run full OS X apps then my interest immediately goes from "day one purchase" to "there's not a chance in hell I'd buy one". I could care less about a giant iPod touch that doesn't fit in my pocket and if that's what they're doing just to compete with the kindle any faith in Apple I have will vanish.

Agreed. This may be right up there with the Newton-kinda hope I'm wrong though. On the one hand I understand why they may have gone with the iPhone OS-lower app requirements means cheaper hardware, and a lower price for the iPad (or whatever dumb name it will have). On the other hand, it's going to be more than any of the current ereaders, and probably more expensive than netbooks-so who's the customer for this?

I haven't used Apple products (aside from my iPod Touch) since the late 80's. I was hoping this would be different enough from the Touch to be worth getting.

We'll see what Apple does tomorrow.

Why would a book publiching/making company CEO announce and confirm this? That means it will be a e-book. and e-book=fail...*FAcepalm*

I'm really really hoping for a new version of OS X with an iPhone-like UI rather then a stripped down OS running on a larger machine. You're absolutely right, whose the target market for a giant iPod Touch? It doesn't seem like it would be good for much other then cutting into the e-reader market which is a superior product for book reading with e-ink screens. It would also create an unnecessary fourth market for apps added to the existing OS X, Iphone and iPod Game markets. Basically what I want is a full featured replacement for my 3+ year old MacBook, is that too much to ask?

Just let me be pointlessly angry till noon tomorrow about a product we still don't have any facts on please.

(possibly) Screw Apple and their (possibly) horrible kindle wannabe! (Unless it turns out to be awesome then I take it all back :D )

Spamcan, I think that's the problem though, they don't want it to compete with their "official" laptops and desktops. I can see this as Apple's response to netbooks-an area they've purposely not gotten into-most likely because of the tablet. I've seen Kindles in action and the Nook, and they look great for reading, and very easy on the eyes. Reading from a tablet is going to be like reading off my laptop screen. I can only do it for so long before my eyes start to hurt.

So, if this is their response to netbooks, it probably won't focus as much on games, but rather multimedia options; movies, tv, wifi etc.

These are the same problems that any tablet would have-so I'm not bashing Apple, but just can't help but wonder what they have in mind. Now if I can run some kind of word processor on there to do some simple editing, I'd love that. That would be easier for me to lug around than my laptop (which I love but it has an 18 inch screen and it gets heavy lugging it around all day), and that might get me to buy one.

I'll be watching all the coverage tomorrow on the announcement and hope for the best though.
