Apple iPhoneOS rumors According to the article, Apple has posted a job listing for an engineer manager whose job would be dedicated primarily to helping bring the iPhoneOS to "new platforms". This was posted on Feb. 15th, so this is not iPad related, but, rather, most probably something else. Speculation abounds, ranging from putting the iPhoneOS into 3rd party phones, built into TV sets, or even 3D glasses. IMHO...all three are verging on nonsense, save for that one in the middle which hints closer to what Apple most probably has up their sleeves. Apple most likely will NOT put the iPhoneOS into competitors phones. That's never really been their business model for any of their products, outside of one or two experiments in the past. 3D net surfing/iPod glasses? Sure...when we get those hoverboards we all wanted after seeing Back to the Future II around 20 years ago or so (as stated on Psych last night - great show, btw). Built into TV sets? Eh...I don't think Apple will go that route, tbqh, regardless of what analysts state: However, the last part of the statement about Apple looking to conquer the living room does make sense, but not with a web/iTunes storefront connected TV set. Why build it into TV sets when you can simply allow people to hook it into their own TV sets, thereby widening your potential consumer base? And that is why the most likely scenario is: New Apple TV hardware running a modified iPhoneOS, and likely based on iPhone or iPad hardware on steroids (this is where Hodapp rolls his eyes and prepares to write something about MS's WebTV, therefore completely missing the point). Consider: Yep. Something is there. A portal into the living room, a portal for iTunes movie downloads, and, most importantly for us iPhone/touch gamers, a portal to the App Store. And what does that mean? Well, if Apple goes the lazy route, it'll just mean a way for us to play iPhone/touch games on our TV sets. But...if Apple goes all out with the idea, and devs support it with AppleTV specific apps, including games...well...the sky is the limit.
Hell no. Android made that mistake, Apple have too much common sense to make the same. EDIT: Oh wait... or do they?
You didn't read the post did you? *sighs Don't just read the topic title, folks, 'cause you walk right into showing how you've missed the point.
I think it would be interesting to see how a game is played on iphone/tv. As far as movies go. I think that they would really need to step it up. The place I rent movies from is $2.00 for 5 days. On the game aspect, it could be huge.
I seriously doubt they'll go through with this plan, though. It's just talk. If you'll think about it, you'll never see Apple letting Snow Leopard run on other non-Apple computers. Never happened, never will. If at all, there might be a slightly different OS for them to sell and garner more $$$. But Apple had been too proud of their safe and secure closed software system to open up a can of worms.
Yeah we get it, we got that joke around the first day of it's annoucement. Don't quit your day job lol
