Jean Pierre et al CraigG on the Freeways (game of the year btw) thread has solved it for me and it works a treat to get old .ipas on. Dancer!
Buy an app as normal. Go to the old iTunes, search for the app in the store and download onto PC. Tried that this morning and works fine.
I have been purchasing apps for years on Android and iOS and I'm unsure until I get to my PC if I have adequately prepared for this. I have an old copy of iTunes on my wife's laptop with all the apps and game I have purchased backed up on it through iTunes. In the past even if the game had been removed from the app store I have been able to reinstall it to my iOS device. To accommodate the older 32bit games I have an iPod 6g which already has the 104 32bit games I have, installed on it. When I connect it to the Internet now any that show up as having an update available I will delete, as it will be usable at that point on my iPhone. Will be interesting to see if I can reinstall any others I may have missed to my iPod. One thing I noticed today was some of the 32bit apps on my iPhone are still on the app store.. I thought they were all going to be removed..
This may be obvious and I'm sure it's covered elsewhere but: how can I avoid upgrading to iOS 11? If I recall rightly, the newer firmware updates automatically download to your device and Apple repeatedly asks if you want to upgrade. If I just avoid going to Software Updates in Settings, will Apple leave me alone? As someone with borderline OCD, I cannot stand the annoying red icon that pops up over the Settings icon when Apple wants to remind you there's a new iOS update to download. Just can't remember if that only happens once you go into the Software Updates section of settings or not. Hope this makes sense. Thanks in advance.
I'm not sure if it's the same on iOS 10, but you should be able to go into Settings>General>Storage & iCloud Usage>Manage Storage Then find the update, tap it, and delete it.
I just managed to drag a file from a folder to my iPhone in iTunes 12.7. So, yes, it seems to work. Still not great due to the lack of back ups of everything from here onward, but itll have to do. Until they kill that feature too
You can still backup new apps if you have an older version of iTunes perhaps on another PC. Yes, you have to download them again assuming you purchased them on you phone or iPad but is that an issue if you want a backup? I have bought several apps and games this week, on my iPad, and they automatically downloaded to my PC with an older iTunes. You can't do it with the latest iTunes but so what. I prefer the latest iTunes as I only ever use it to sync music to my iPhone and it is so much faster than previously especially if you backup your phone to the cloud.
Last time I avoided updating, the update would always download itself again every single time I was on wifi while plugged in, even when it was the same update I deleted already... Because Apple doesn't care how potentially buggy their iOS is, or how much you just don't want it. #
Aaaand, it happened today. Without going into the Software Update section of Settings or doing anything else to download the update, that red update icon appeared in the upper right corner of the Settings icon prompting me to install iOS 11. I am max annoyed. This didn't seem to work the first time. I was able to find the update under Manage Storage and hit Delete Now, but I still see that infernal red icon above the Settings icon. I'll try again later. Anyone have any other tips?
UPDATE: Good news/bad news. After following syntheticvoid's advice and then restarting the phone, the blasted red icon disappeared over the Settings icon. Thanks, synth! The red notice remains within the Settings app itself, but I guess I'll have to live with that. Borderline OCD crisis avoided, for now.
happened to me today too on my iPad. I'll SV's advice as it's catching my eye and winking at me every time I look at my iPad.
