personally I'm going to get a xoom over an iPad 2 for the reason that it can change into what ever you want it to be, basically make it your own. I do have an iPod Touch so i'll still have the apple brand with me (also on a mac right now) but I just need more then seeing a screen with buttons everywhere. Also I know it will get a buried with all the other honeycomb tablets but it is a google experience device so it should mean we get updates from googles servers but no one knows. I've also heard mentions of dual boot on it with linux. If motorola drops or google drops it quickly i'll be backed with people who will find a way to give it new life. Yes, for the media/app hungry person an iPad2 is better but for someone who loves to tinker and mess with code its the xoom.
Hi, Thanks for the information, looks like it would be an issue for me. Sharing an iTunes account is different than sharing a Gmail or Youtube account with my wife and child. Like I posted earlier, AndroidOS and the Xoom look interesting but do not currently fit my needs or those of my family, maybe in the future things will change. David
Just be careful - one day my Android phone was not recognized by my Mac. There went all abilities to transfer files and photos etc. The carrier blamed the manufacturer, the manufacturer blamed the carrier. With the Android platform there is no one that holds responsibility for anything that may or may not go wrong. Everyone is pointing fingers in the other direction - the platform is just TOO open. Absolutely NO accountability. In fact I had to enlighten one of the tech support people as to what a "driver" was. How is that for support? All's well that ends well at any rate since the carrier finally needed to do good by me and allowed me an upgrade that did not effect my actual upgrade date - so I switched phones and platforms and everything. iPhone all the way for me now. At least I know that will ALWAYS work with my Mac lol! But Android is killing itself by allowing it's platform to get chopped up and dissected into little pieces by every manufacturer that wants to make a phone. Then the carriers add their two cents to it. Heck the Samsung at Verizon doesn't even use GOOGLE as its proprietary software for searches and maps etc - it uses BING! How crazed is that? A google OS phone using Bing? (Not to mention it's GPS CONSISTENTLY had me located in a pond about a mile from my house when I was clearly sitting in my family room - you would HOPE a GPS worked!) So having a phone/tablet left open to the whims of so many people just wasn't for me and thankfully I now had a choice available to me and so I made it. If I were to get a carrier tablet (as opposed to WiFi only) clearly I would get an iPad only because what you see is what you get and there isn't anything hidden or changed from one to another. Trust me, one day you think you know your phone - the next day it is a foreign object. Apple is upfront about their updates, lists all the features and changes, and then you can decide to update. Android - you get a notice, you have no idea what is going to change, and then you can't mount to your computer. Any credibility I formerly gave to this platform as perhaps having some staying power went OTA with that OTA update I received. One thing though, a few pages back was a chart with some of the specs of some of the tabs - why is the AT&T iPad a few grams (ok it's only grams but still interesting) heavier than the Verizon iPad?
Yeah I just don't have to worry about what works and the blame game as I make my own rom so if something goes wrong it's all on me, and I do wish that every android phone would give you the option to install the phones maker skin (if you just have to have it). Again iPad is for People who don't want to tinker or change anything and have a device that a 1 year old could use. If apple would support people like me and have a way to change what you wanted ( grated you have a dev account with them) I would be back in a second as their hardware is nice.
Ok I misunderstood - didn't know you were going for the root factor. I have seen a bunch of rooted phones and boy can you do a lot with them. I also hear that Honeycomb includes Flash and can connect to online gaming flash sites so that is a good feature too if you like that sort of thing. I guess the bottom line is that each is going to have features that attract to different people, just like anything. I mean why choose an XBox over a PlayStation? Or a DS over a PSP? Here I am posting in this thread ironically and don't even own a tablet!
Lmao I am sure most people here dont have a tablet. Your right though, each appeals to its own group.
