It really doesn't matter. There's a reason why Apple barely even mentions their processor tech, the mass market doesn't care. The number of people who go shopping for tablets based on feature lists is hilariously small. Do you realistically think anyone walked in to an Apple store and was like, "Oh, the iPad only has 256MB of RAM? **** that." It's like comparing a Nintendo DS to one of those wacky GP2X Wiz emulation handhelds. One is a platform most people actually want to buy, the other is a niche product that people who don't want to be bounded by Nintendo's chains of oppression can play emulators and other crapware on. No comparison.
IMO the only thing that iPad blows Xoom out of the water is the App Store, Weihgt, and price. Other than that the Xoom is better in other aspects.
iPad has a better SoC. SGX543MP2 GPU is faster than a Tegra 2 GeForce ULV, but the Xoom has better cameras and a higher resolution display. Xoom is more customizable while the iPad has more app choice and an easier to use UI. Xoom has better hardware features, iPad has superior software and performance.
How do we know the iPad 2 uses that GPU? Besides there are lots of restrictions they can place to make that GPU less powerful to save battery life where the Xoom might not have done like memory bandwidth and underclocking the speed. Also the iPad is gonna have far less ram than the Xoom which will hold it back so much. I think the Xoom is much better and it uses Honeycomb which can only get better and it looks frigging great. I think Xoom has an sd card slot which is set to work in an upcoming software update too and it uses 4G. Android is so much better than IOS because there are no restrictions and you can actually do what you want on it. With IOS you can't even have custom text alerts yet, they remove loads of apps from the store and you have to use Apple formats. I hate being locked into iTunes which is a ****ing PoS to use, especially if you reformat your PC. Besides the Android Market store has most of the good iPhone games these days anyways, though including so many good emulators like Gameboy and N64 ones. If you're an Idiot that bums Apple no matter what they do then get the lackluster iPad. If you're an idiot then get the Xoom Otherwise just get a Laptop with far more functionality.
Because drivers were found for it in the iOS 4.3 beta firmware for iPad...And the specs of that GPU match perfectly with Apple's 9X faster claims.
Don't want to stir to pot, but I in fact would do just that. Not to buy another tablet (as I honestly believe the iPad can't be touched by them anytime soon), but rather as I feel Apple is proving some asenine point by NOT putting in the extra (5$?) worth of RAM that spec enthusiasts crave (note: I am not one of those people). Full Disclosure: I'm likely kidding myself- I'd probably cave in and by it anyways because I'm a sucker for the new cover and svelte-ness.
Did everyone also forget that you can install Android OS on Apple devices? OpeniBoot Lets see the Xoom run iOS....
"I don't see a use for a tablet when my sick good gamin' rigg is all the computer I need" = "The human race is doomed."
A race between Apple and NVidia in the GPU world is very interesting. NVidia has much more experience with GPUs, but I wonder if Apple could actually keep up. These raw specs mean absolutely nothing. The original iPad was thought to be severely underpowered with only 256 MB of RAM, but look how it turned out. The devices have different architectures. Only actual benchmarks can provide meaningful performance comparisons. Ah, the elitism.
Hi, For those who think the Motorola Xoom or the AndroidOS is better than the iDevices and iTunes, I have a question. Can you use an app or game on one device and then have another device and use it for free, without having to buy the app or game again for the second device? This, for me, is such a great selling point for using iTunes and having an iDevice. The ecosystem that is in place by Apple for their devices is just something that is really perfect for those who have families or just have multiple devices of their own. For me, Apple and their devices win the war, because of reasons I mention above and this comes from a former user of a PalmOS device, PPC device and even a Nokia Internet Tablet so no fanboy here. Just this device and ecosystem is the best for my needs and my family where Google and others have not come close to, yet. AndroidOS, and their devices still interest me but are not practical for my needs. David
DERP. If you are an iPhone lover, chances are you've purchased a number of apps, all of which will run on the iPad (and many of which may even be universal builds!) so why change platforms?!? My daughter's getting an iPad2 as soon as they are readily available so she can watch Dora without having to steal Daddy's iPhone.
Sign in with the same account you use for Youtube and Gmail on your Android phone, and yes, you can! There's also no tablet or phone version for apps since most of them will adapt to a tablet, a game for example will recognize the resolution, and render at that resolution, no scaling like an iPhone app on the iPad. The chipset used is a modded Cortex A9 dual core, it's not made by Apple, it's made by ARM. The performance is kind of the same as the performance of the Galaxy S II or Galaxy Tab II. The iPad is severely underpowered with just 256MB, it just closes some apps I've used, it only keeps the last 3 apps or so running. The performance of the iPad is quite bad too, it should have almost the same performance as the Galaxy Tab (not the Galaxy Tab II) or Galaxy S (same here, not the SGSII), but the performance is much worse if you play Dungeon Defenders: First Wave for example. My SGS doesn't perform as good as I wan't, but the iPad performs really crappy.
