http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/apple-ipad-2-vs-motorola-xoom/2/ What do you guys think? Apps Winner: iPad 2 Extras Winner: Xoom Price Winner: iPad 2 Overall Winner: Xoom There are a thousand ways we could reorganize this battle and give the trophy to Apple. The fact is that both of these tablets are extremely competitive and offer some unique benefits. Both claim a 10 hour battery life as well. However, despite the beautiful design of the iPad 2 and software and price advantage it currently has, we think Motorola’s Xoom is a healthy competitor and worthy of a look. If you’re an iPhone lover, chances are the iPad 2 will win your heart, but if you’re not, give them both a try. You may be surprised at some of the differences between the two units.
I think this is an excellent opportunity for people to get the original iPad. It's much cheaper now, and all you're missing out on is a camera and some speed. The original iPad is still an excellent and rlevant device
Both are solid products except before the end of the year the Xoom will be lost in a sea of Honeycomb tablets sporting similar specs.
No. Both tablets are equally suited to different people. Trying to instill your personal beliefs into some quasi-quantitative ranking is just wrong. And the article has many factual errors as well.
If you ask me they're both equally suited to people who think they need things they didn't really need. It's just pot luck the human race has managed to survive until now.
Specs mean nothing. I sure wouldn't buy a Mac based on specs alone, for instance. Same could be said about just about anything.
Well, though iPad 2's display didn't get an upgrade, and same to most, retina display on the iPad 2 is my expect, but I still think iPad is better than Motorola Xoom, which is loudly trumpeted as having a “1GHz dual-core processor and fully Flash-enabled for video-rich web," But at last said that it won't actually have anything of the sort. At launch at least. LOL, so don't get hopes too high until the motorala Xoom or other tablet launch with flash support. People who suggest iPad 2 is an incremental upgrade are simply not looking at the bigger picture; the Apple iPad 2 feels and acts drastically differently from its predecessor. The plethora changes – some cosmetic, some under the hood – have boosted a device that felt like a luxury, to a device that is head and shoulders above its competitors at the moment.
And they'll all be outdated by years end when the quad core droid tablets start coming out. http://www.pcworld.com/article/219828/tablets_to_be_supercharged_by_quadcore_chips.html
Reasons to definitely buy the iPad 2 over the Xoom: 1. More apps, which is really what makes a tablet at this point. 2. More reliable software updates; Android devices often get software updates long after they are released for the Nexus devices, but Apple releases them all at the same time. 3. Longer battery: the article failed to mention that even though Motorola claims 10 hours of battery life, it's actually more like 7 or 8. (but Apple uses a more rigorous battery testing method, so they're usually closer to the mark) 4. Easier to use. 5. Much thinner and lighter. 6. Has an aspect ratio better suited to tablets; the Xoom is really not meant for portrait, where the iPad can be used any way. 7. You pretty much know for sure that Apple isn't going to come out with another tablet halfway during the year, and there's a definite model to upgrade to, whereas Motorola may release new quad core tablets by the middle of the year, and forget about the Xoom and its software updates.
I think that's reason enough to be honest from a consumer POV. To a John/Jane Doe; this thing is Apple and it has a plethora of apps. They're not like say you or I where we check every single detail, hardware and software about these tablets. Plus people tend to herd. Which is to say, towards the "Apple".
definitely an iPad 2. Its first of all thinner and More apps. Though Android 3.0 seems tempting,I would want to try the A5 processor.
If you choose the Xoom over iPad 2 just by comparing specs, it's exactly like making the same old mistake of choosing a PC over a Mac. Of course you can buy a less expensive and much more powerful PC compared to the Mac specwise, but...
No they both have two 1 GHz cores. Well, we're not certain but it's highly likely the iPad 2 will have it.
