Now that the details of the new iPad and it's high resolution display are out, I began to wonder what the new apps will be named? I mean, App Store is currently filled with apps that end with HD (Angry Birds HD, Tap The Frog HD, Fruit Ninja HD and so on). Do you think that there will be some new abbreviation or not and if so, what will it be? Some examples: Fruit Ninja HD+ Fruit Ninja Super HD Fruit Ninja Ultra HD To me, HD+ sounds pretty nice. It's short and pretty informative. And then the next one could be HD++ :-D
I'd think they'd just add 'retina display support' into the app description really... Though, Android Tablet apps often use 'THD', meaning TEGRA High Definition, TEGRA being the name of the CPU used in pretty much all good Android tabs, perhaps you'll see some 'RHD' (i.e. Retina HD). I doubt it's likely though, as people will still use iPad 1 and 2 for quite some time, and 'HD' will still mean 1024x768 (i.e. higher definition than the phone version) to them, retina support will just be a bonus; retina supported apps won't stop working on older iPads and they'll just be updates of previous apps and not re-releases.
Yes, it's possible that they just keep that "retina display support". I'm sure that we will see lots of games targeted to iPad 2 / new iPad or even only the new iPad. The first iPad simply doesn't have the power to run those graphically more impressive games. If I remember correctly, you can't change the device requirements after you have uploaded the first binary to the App Store. So, some developers would rather create a new app for the high-end devices than update the old app which should still have support devices like 3GS and iPod Touch 4th gen. It's interesting to see if the upcoming Infinity Blade supports 3GS, iPod Touch 4 and original iPad anymore.
