Still proving my entitled, rude and moronic theory. I guess my examples didn't make my feelings clear enough. And my Snickers bar example was to say why don't people complain about that when they go crazed over 99 cents in the app store. You would think they were paying a million bucks for something. And also that it is in the way you complain - rudely or in a constructive manner. People have a right to their opinions if their purchase does not live up to their expectations but they do not have a right to be an idiot about expressing it.

The app store became desperate and now as a consumer everyone expects everything for free or for a dollar. Prices were slashed, sales abounded, even some to rig the charts (EA around the holidays). That is not good for the market or for people's expectations. When the market first arrived and everyone promised "free updates" well I am guessing they didn't know how much work that would take and the return on their investment wasn't going to be met. Then IAP and DLC came into the picture and chaos ensued. Waa waa this, waa waaa that. It's now become a perpetual cycle of chaos. Prices go up and down and all around.

So rude people - whether they are 14 or 84 began to flood the market with reviews because they didn't see the little support button at the top so they could share their complaint in private (oh but wait that would show their email address and there goes their anonymity) and left rude reviews. If there is a screening process I don't know what it is because some of those reviews should not have been accepted.

But as you said - you can't put the cat back into the bag. I had hoped with the iPad market things would be different and prices would stick, but they didn't there; and it appears in the Mac Store as well, sales are already popping up.

On the promocodes - THERE is where the title of this thread is appropriate. Promo users are not grateful. Even if you send them in a PM the people that request them - their only contribution to TA is sometimes - "may I have a code" or xyz123abc456 taken! And they are never heard from again. In addition to handing codes out by PM I suggest you check their posting history and see if they actually post any comments about the games they snarf. If I see a promo thread now, I can expect that about 4 or 5 users are in there and sure enough they are. This is where the lack of gratitude is. But that is added work upon added work to a dev, I know, so it is asking a lot. All I can say about promo codes to devs is distribute with care!

There are some members that purchase a game and give more feedback than the 10 promo code receivers before them - combined!

All the immature, uninformed customers used to really bug me, but I don't care anymore.

Idevices have come down from being business elitist status symbols, to something kids get for Christmas. That tells you right there the type of people who are writing reviews, and posting here on occasion.

It's the way the system works, you can only buy apps from the AppStore, so everyone who feels the need for their voice to be heard will abuse the review button there, it's so easy to.

It's the same thing in every market pretty much, there are just people out there that think others care what they have to say.

I don't know the last time I actually read a review from the AppStore without it being for a good laugh. The Apps are great, good job devs, but sorry Apple, your store kinda sucks :p

re: promo codes. (I've only ever had one of these being non-US and these have changed recently) but there was a comment about 'not even a review left'. What if the game wasn't very good? You don't want to exactly leave a negative review with the courtesy of a promo code given to you.

the app store & the devs that make the games have made it in such a way, that the buyers sometimes end up looking ungrateful.. there is way to much content coming out everyday & app pricing is all over the place.. i get pissed off when i see somthing that i bought from the store going free in the same week.. sure you can argue that its only 0.99 or whatever.. but to see people getting it for free so soon makes me mad.. ive seen apps such as dead rising change price 3 times in a weeks time.. now for anyone who buys an app for $6 to see it for $1 so soon will be pissed off, no matter how much value the game offers him.. apple should not allow devs to change pricing as & when they want.. i feel alot more comfortable spending alot more on psn, cause i know- im not going to be screwed on pricing any time soon..

devs price their games at 0.99 or FREE, then of course ALOT of ppl will download it.. the game might not be everyones cup of tea. what might seem like an amazing game to you, might be a bullshit game for someone else.. and reviews reflect that.. a bug that causes a game to constantly shut down, might not be a big problem for you, but someone else might give it 1 star & want his money back.. value is something that differs from person to person, you might think a certain game for $3.00 is of good value but someone else might think that its too much & only good for $0.99. so thats something you cant debate over or judge people over and call them ungrateful

there will allways be critics & haters for everything, from movies to music to the app store.. its just that the low pricing of the app store, means more people buy it & that means more opinions & haters.. you just have to live with it..

as for angry birds- i dont see whats wrong with ppl expecting future updates for free?? the devs have made millions, they making toys, board games, cartoons, they arent complaining why are you? they charged for the holiday edition and alot of people bought it.. i didnt see many people complain..

as for promocodes given out here, its upto the dev really how they want to give it out.. sometimes they have 40-50 codes & sending everyone a PM can be a bit of a hassle for them,no 1 is going to sit & check everyones posting history.. i dont see why people have to contribute to the forum to get a promo code! i get the codes & i write the reviews for all of them.. at times giving them 5 stars for a game, even when it deserves less, just cause i want to help the dev out. i get a code, i write the review- simple as that.. people shouldnt get codes based on how active they are on the forums, cause some ppl can afford to sit around all day here, while others have more important stuff to do.. devs post the codes or pm them, first come first served... simple as that.. i have seen some people who have alot of posts here, sure they are active, but when they get a code- they use it to promote their own site or their twitter account & hand the code down in their own competition.. thats worse..

I'm not ungrateful, but it's funny how much research for a app I do. I'll go look up reviews, go to youtube, come here and everything to make sure a $4 app is worth buying, when I'll give people money if they need it freely.

Thanks for the mention on Trenches! We were just discussing here in the office how odd it is that some players get so angry and so obscene when leaving reviews. They act is if our game is more evil than killing new born babies! What many of these players don't realize is that is DISCOURAGES us from reading the reviews and acting on them.

If anyone is familiar with MajicDave, he recently had a rant/post about his general disgust for receiving player feedback and complaints (LINK: http://majicjungle.com/blog/472/ ) which in turn will lead to developers not acting on the feedback they are given.

Tragic read. The take-home lesson from that rant seems to be that no amount of success can completely compensate for the wealth of enemies one risks creating in the course of normal interaction with customers for support purposes. Hats off to developers who manage to effectively articulate their anger in a way that doesn't gain them too many new, undeserved enemies.

I must agree but the majority of app reviews aren't ungrateful as much as they are ignorant and stupid. I see way to many people giving apps one star ratings and bad reviews simply for not having one feature like retina or the ability to listen to your own music. But the reviews that really bother me are the immature ones (usually by kids) for modern combat 2 i saw a someone leave a review with 1 star saying this app was crap because it had bad graphics and no attack helicopter. Now i rely more on sites like toucharcade or youtube to decide whether i'll buy a app.

I completly agree, I was actually thinking of this again today. I saw the star rating for ttl (tilt to live) and they were 3 1/2 that is one of the best apps, and all the reviews said IAP killed the game, and it just upset me because there is so much content there.

Yeah, that makes me pretty angry too. They don't realize all the free content the developer has given us since the game's debut. It's just a bunch of idiots who think everything should be free. But honestly, it's getting old. Let's just accept that the comments left on the appstore are generally just trash and a pain to read.

If it wasn't very good I would PM them and tell them why I didn't like it. If they hate me for it then, so be it. But, personally, I want all the feedback I can get. I don't care if it's positive or negative. TBH I would probably appreciate negative even more than positive as it is helpful and I know they're being honest.

    App buyers are so ungrateful

Especially when expensive games go on sale. They whine and give one star reviews and threaten and demand their money back. Let's see, I have bought many games at full price and I dont complain because the games are good and worth probably more. Real Racing 2 for $10. N.O.V.A. 2 for $7. Super Monkey Ball 2 for $3. Game Of LIFE for $3. I don't complain one bit because these games are BARGAINS! Real Racing 2 and N.O.V.A. 2 could easily be sold for $30+ on a handheld system. People should really be more grateful.

There's been threads with nearly identical names and hundreds of posts. Yes, we are aware that the iOS community is filled with greedy, ignorant teenagers who think they're entitled to great games for $0.99. I actually thought the exact same thing again when I went to read the new reviews of Nova 2 today since it's so high in the charts now, and I thought it would be a great way to spend 3 minutes of my life. Turns out, it wasn't. Big surprise there.

In any case, this has been going on since the beginning of the AppStore over two and a half years ago. There's nothing anyone can do about it. My total spent on just games has racked up to over $1650 now, and yeah, it's pretty annoying seeing kids complain and leaving one star about something like Nova 2 being not worth the dollar just because the file size is too large. Sadly, this doesn't just apply to iTunes' reviews, but this is commonly seen even here at TA, where we're supposed to be role models to other iOS gamers. But whatever, I've long given up on telling someone what's worth and not worth $6.99..a day's lunch.

I just wish that people could see the logic behind it all. If they're willing to spend hundreds on a iDevice...but complain about $1.99 games..sigh. People need to understand one day that the iDevice is no different from the DS and PSP as a very formidable mobile gaming device. I don't see anyone complaining about games on those platforms to even 10% of the extent seen for iOS games. The ironic thing is, the iOS has so much more to offer than both those devices. Call me a fanboy? I don't think so. I have both the original and second generation PSP (lite) along with a DS lite. I have enough basis for my opinion. People need to open their eyes, but that's really too much to expect from teenagers these days.

Oh, what's even worse are the idiots complaining that the game went on sale too soon. Wow, really now, just really? I'm guessing they've never been to the STORE before and know NOTHING about business/sales/economics.

Yeah they are. I can get a little of it, though - I have a PSP and a DS Lite, and I balk at paying 30 bucks for a game over PSN...even though it's the exact same game I'll get if I bought it IRL. Maybe people have a view of apps and other such digital downloads being more 'disposable', or not as tangible - a game you buy in a game store is an actual product that you can hold in your hands, but an app is just something that shows up in your home screen. But people complaining and leaving 1 star reviews because of bad luck or because of stuff like the file size being too large are being unreasonable.

No. App developers are ungrateful; I deserve all my games for free, without ads, with Game center integration, support for every generation of iPhone and iPad, AppleTV, the Mac App Store, and the new iPod nano. Games should include 3D graphics better than Crysis 2, have controls optimized perfectly for a touchscreen, and have 64 player lag-free online multiplayer (over edge). Game ideas must be set in a world so unique, no one has even thought of it before, but realistic at the same time. A typical campaign must last at the very least 60 hours.

App developers simply do not understand the agreement they make when they publish an app. They are not simply making a game for a few extra bucks. They are signing away their lives to fixing my obscure bug reports caused by me running Android in the background.

If an app developer goes above and beyond what should be the minimal requirements for submitting a game to the app store, I may contemplate loading the game on my device.

I definitely agree with some of your points there albeit those reviews for DD are somewhat reasonable because it advertised playing the game with the graphics portrayed in the screenshots. I had to turn down the graphics to halfway or less to be able to play at all. I don't even care too much when I buy a 10 dollar app and it goes for 99 because I know it's worth those 10 dollars when I buy it.

As a dev and a shopper myself, I find it very peculiar to stand at shoppers’ side; I automatically switch into an ever-ungrateful-16-y.o-kid-mode demanding 100 hours of gameplay w/o costing a dime. If I carefully play a game, I could *probably* provide a shitty ballpark estimate of how much man hour, all the agony, and a flood of sweat are put into. Yet, I demand the very game at my tip for free.

I think that it is firstly because we developers are all crowded in one very small place, the App store. If you could manage to put all the slave merchants in the world to a small street of your hometown, you would see they cut their price mercilessly. We know it happens everywhere with every item. Why not on the App store then?

As a shopper who fully aware of the first fact, I move swiftly from one app to another seeking for instant, fully satisfying amount of fun for as little amount of cost as possible. If the app I paid displeases me in any regards (no free update, displeasing graphic, or clumsy control, you name it), I’d feel greatly betrayed, cheated, and manipulated not just because the dev took my money but also because he took my opportunity to take another, better, and faster injection of fun from me. I’d rather love to rip the dev’s head off than the character’s in the game.

Watching what happens between the slave merchants and the shopper, the biggies out there are not very willing to step in. They have their own market completely detached from the crowded one. They have their own royal customers who pay whatever amount asked. If one shopper goes out of control and badmouths, they will just shrug their shoulder and say, “so?”

I think the App store is still in its early days, and it is good for devs. Once the big names come in and in control like they do with PC, we wouldn’t even get complains and hatemongering feedback we hate so much now, would we?

This is just my two cents.

On a side note, what gets me even more than stupid reviews is people on forums complaining about prices. Constantly. Doesn't even matter what the price is, in fact. "This game looks great! It has about 30 hours of gameplay, nice graphics, stellar reviews, everything I need - but oh, $1.99? Too expensive, I'll wait for a sale." Dude, it's two bucks. You pay $50 a month just to have an iPhone, and you'd happily pay $20 for the same game on a console. Don't be an ass and buy the damn game already. -_-
