A partly related question regarding app names. I would like to set our app's name in the system, but I became a bit uncertain about the name I give in the iTunes connect, and the name which will be visible under the icon and in the App Store. We would like to avoid the truncation of a long name (name start....name ends), so we might include some part of the name into the icon. My question is, when you set the name it will the name which will be visible under the icon?

I hope it is clear :)

Our name would have a similar syntax: "Great Wars: Europe" because there would be the sequel:"Great Wars: The Pacific". But this is too long for the icon... What is the best solution? I see sometimes that games have abbreviations, like PvsZ under the icon, but the full name in the Store. (I don't wish to use abbreviations.)

What is your experience? Any advice? I would appreciate... I don't want to register a wrong name, or my intended name in a bad formulation.

You can have different names in the App Store and under the icon. The name under the icon can be changed with a simple (Bundle Display Name) in the plist. If Apple think it makes sense they'll allow it.

My first title was "Ben's somewhat spiffy-looking, but ultimately craptastic rock-paper-scissors game". Under the icon it simply says Ben's RPS. When I released "Insulting Monk" however I was not allowed to use iMonk and it is now Insulti...Monk on the phone.

Thank you for your reply. I'm checking different apps which are part of a sequel for ideas, like Hungry Shark 1-2-3 or Carnivores and Carnivores IA.

So basically, if I register "Great Wars 1" in iTunes Connect, I might be able to use "Great Wars" as icon name and have the "Europe" built into the icon, or in the worst case have "Great ... Europe"

For those who are desperate because they lost the app name after the 120 days deadline but really need to use that name, and apple support doesn't respond, there is the ultimate option: create a new account for 99$ and take back your name, if it's not been taken in between.

Usually Apple will send you a notification email 7 days prior to deletion. If you need more time for your app, just email them explaining your reason why then they will give you more time.
I did this twice before :)

We have submited version with the realese date not set.
It got rejected anyway, and now the name expiration problem should be removed from our list
    120 days does look silly
