If you purchase an app/song on your iPod, then purchase it on your computer in iTunes with the same account, will it recognize that you've already purchased it and download it for free on the computer?

Not sure of the song, but if you do that w/ an app, you should be safe.

Ok, thanks. I didn't wanna spend two times as much money in my account. But are you saying it'll recognize it without ever syncing since you purchased the app/song?

If it's the same account, yes.

Apple has a record of your purchases. If you click the 'buy' button for an app/song/movie/TV show/whatever, that you have already paid for, you will not be charged again. I suppose you should be aware that if you try downloading an album that you imported from a CD, you will be charged for that since there is no record of a transaction. So don't do something like that.

Ok, thanks. Cause when I transfer purchases during a sync, it usually doesn't recognize a lot of them. Ok, my question has been answered. Mods, please close this thread.

I have also noticed that I sometimes have to sync twice before all my apps are copied from device to computer.

Wait, mods, don't close this thread just yet. So when I go to purchase an app on my computer that I've already purchased on my iPod, it says "Your credit card will be charged for this purchase and the application will begin to download immediately". It will still purchase it for free though, right?

I have disabled those warning messages so I am not sure if it is supposed to appear when re-downloading a previous purchase. If it is the same app and the same account, you will not be charged.

Click yes and it will then say that you can download it for free.

As a follow-up to my original question, if you download an app on the computer, then download it on your iPod w/ the same account, will it download it for free?

    ...Anyone?

Ouch, I guess the purchase history thing only works for apps. Or only works well for apps.
