To be fair cheat modes back in the 80's and 90's were cheaper ! I remember in the 80's getting my monthly mag (no internet back then !) getting excited as there was a 'poke' for the game i had and was stuck on, entering in the numerical code and then getting infinite lives etc ! Later in the 90's on the consoles you would get the cheat which might have been pressing LRLRSTARTSELECTLR etc Now its often 69p !
maybe i've got a severe mental deficiency, but wtf is with the (final, since there's only one) boss? i dropped his health six times, and each time he stood there stunned for a couple seconds, then regenerated his health to back full. i walked over to him each time and slashed him, but he just regenned anyway. i saw no indication that this would end soon - no color change, no armor falling off, no nothing. bug, or do i have to kill him 20 times?
There's 2 bars. Energy bar regens and is what you shoot to daze him, when dazed you knife him and the health bar below the energy bar will take a chunk of damage and won't regen.
The first time I played against the boss I couldn't beat him to save my life. The best thing to do is chuck 3 grenades at him then slash him. Then get on the middle platform and wait for his 2 electric waves to go by then do it again. Then when your grenades are gone use the grenade launcher if you have it. This will make it much easier to defeat him using the same pattern you used with the hand grenades. If you don't have the grenade launcher then you'll need to spray him with bullets and then slash. It takes a good 10-12 slashes to finally defeat him. I played through again yesterday on medium difficulty and beat him on the first shot. I am now on my third play through on the hardest difficulty. I rarely ever play a game more than once so this is a testament on how great of a game it is. Once again great job developers!
I really like the fact that weapons and cash are preserved when the game is reset. This has allowed me to purchase weapons and upgrades I could not have afforded the first and second time through. Not to mention the upgrades are not really needed until you ramp up the difficulty. It really gives you a reason to replay the game over and over again. It also gives you a reason to progress through the difficulty levels as cash from previously beaten levels does not get added to your wallet. IMO what seems like a bug might actually be a great gameplay element. It sort of reminds me of "rising dead" where you are suppose to die and restart the game often only to get a little further each time you play. The IAP is not needed at all. I'm on my third play through and haven't used it once. And IMO if you use it you are only cheating yourself out of the experience. I never liked using cheats until I was done playing the game and had no more use for it. Kind of like a last hurrah. IMO by using the IAP you are just short changing yourself and diminishing the replay value of the game. Personally I don't think they could have done a better job with game. If they never release an update I'll be just fine. Now what I would like to see is a sequel. One that doesn't use zombies but instead uses military men. Same controls and basic level design just different characters and terrain. IMO the engine they've made is perfect. The only tweak I might add in a sequel is integrating the knifing as automatic when an enemy is close. But then again that might make it be too close to metal slug. Or at least an option to enable this would be nice IMO. Also the ability to use different characters with each having their own backstory would be interesting and each having their own unique ending.
I'm about ready to buy the 3rd upgrade for that weapon I just hope I will gain enough coins to get the final upgrade for the alien gun. It costs 48,000 and is the only remaining upgrade I have left to purchase. Btw playing it through on the hardest difficulty is much harder and makes the game take much longer. Zombies spawn almost on top of you and the harder foes that appear later in the game are present pretty much from the get go. On the plus side each level gives you more coins as a result and thus makes upgrading alittle easier. Also a tip I find to be helpful is replaying older levels for ammo, health packs and grenades. I frequently play the 3rd level on the first world to grab these. There are a few other levels that are great for collecting ammo for other weapons I just can't think of them off the top of my head. The trick is to run through the levels and focus on just the crates. Pretty much a lot of running and double jumping to avoid the enemies as they'll just slow down your quest to collect supplies. I find myself doing this every level on the harder difficulties because so much ammo is used killing the zombies. Also later on the knife attack is pretty much useless other than for busting open crates. IMO do not buy ammo, grenades or health. Those can be had for free. Use all your money on weapon upgrades and replay previous levels for supplies.
Also take note when you press the replay button after completing a level it will not keep your health. It will however keep the ammo you picked up. So the best thing to do is hit "next" and then replay the level again until your health is maxed out and then hit "replay" if you still need more ammo. Not sure if this is a bug, but it's not a big deal. Just something to keep in mind.
IMO yes. I never really cared for metal slug 3. In fact my favorite two were metal slug 1 and X in that order. 3,4,5 just seemed to drag on. And it alway annoyed me when you got turned into a mummy on 3. IMO this game strikes a perfect balance between ms one and three. Nice and short while still offering lots of challenge and differences between scenarios.
IMO that's exactly what the IAP is for. If you are going to replay the same level over and over in a way that is still cheating. And IMO it might have been a stroke of genius to not allow coins to accumulate when replaying a level. At first I was annoyed by the fact but now on my third play through I understand the reasoning behind it.
I think it's hilarious when some of you get all hot and bothered by IAP. Sure, some games it completely destroys them when you're forced to get IAP. Those I don't even bother trying. But in this game, it is not that way. It's there yes, but it's not mandatory at all. Plus, it's a $3 game, for that price you're getting your money's worth. Shit, a pack of smokes, or an energy drink is more. Seriously people. But peeps will bitch and moan over anything nowadays. I for one like supporting devs of great iOS games, they need to make money too. It's alot better than paying $60 for a console game then playing it and realizing it sucks balls. I have no issues paying/supporting games that are well made and this game is. But that's just my opinion and others won't agree. On a side note, are the leader boards accurate? Im seeing some crazy scores and that's a bummer cuz I assume they're not legit.
Would be pretty cool if they could implement those kind of cheats on this type of game, but its not needed imo. Without having a controller to press buttons on the title screen its just not possible imo.
No need to backup anything. When you reset the game you keep your money and weapons. This gives you incentive to play it over and over to keep upgrading your weapons. Also the stronger weapons are not needed until you ramp up the difficulty. So for easy the stock weapons will be fine, on medium you'll want to upgrade them all to 2nd tier and on the hardest its almost necessary to have them all upgraded by the time you get to the end. Also on the harder difficulty settings there are more zombies which means more coin drops and more money is accumulated, so the 2nd and 3rd tier upgrades come fairly quickly. IMO this is a well thought out game that is very balanced. You don't even realize some of the reasoning until the 2nd and 3rd play through, but then it hits you and a smile appears on your face
All weapons fully upgraded. I'm about half way through the final area. Just need to stock up on ammo before playing the final level. Btw in the final area on hard bullets do very little damage. It takes about 10-15 bullets to take down a regular zombie! Let's just say you go through a ton of ammo.
I finally saw the "tip" that If you replay levels and get a higher score you get money for completing it. I believe it is a bug that you don't. That said I kind of like the way the "new game +" works. This game is good enough to warrant a second play through on the hard difficulty.
