It is well worth the money and you seriously don't need to touch the IAP, only consumables are ammo, med kits and grenades and there's more than ample of those around. But it's up to you, the point of contention comes about because of confusion created after end game. Completed it twice on Tough Guy now (although did boss first time around on Sissy), time to try Suicidal. Need more stars to rate it.
I guess my question is the game, at higher difficulties, that difficult to complete without having weapons highly upgraded? That's really my main concern with the IAPs. And I'm not talking about the sissy diffulty since I'm sure that could be. I've only played through about 9 stages of the sissy difficulty and so far find no need for IAPs. Just worried more for the future when I do want to play a "real" difficulty level. They're coins so they are actually consumable. It's what you have to have to upgrade your weapons.
I'm on the 6th stage of Suicidal difficulty, and dont' see any need to purchase any IAP currency... I did reset my game, but that was only after playing the first 4 levels on Tough Guy. Like Metalcasket said, there's really very little need for guns, as they're basically just a waste, taking way too long to kill enemies as opposed to slashing, especially on the harder difficulties. Most of my currency goes towards health packs and grenades. =o)
Think I'll pass on this one! Even if it goes on sale I'll resist because of what Gabrien said above about IAP but mainly because of battle fatigue on my part This is why I deleted Star Warfare from my device because after busting my guts to upgrade like crazy my mind got burnt out Simply got tired of shooting things with blood flying all over the place So to conclude I've just limited myself to less choices now for games but I'm feeling ok about it! For those who love this game I wish I could be there...enjoy yourselves
You will be missing out big time. Reconsider or put it on your wishlist to buy later. The IAP comments are ludicrous. Do yourself a favor and reward the dev by finding $3 somewhere in your house.
think the devs should change this tip "Replay levels to increase your score and earn more coins" - or something like that... just saw it right before the level I'm playing now.
You can earn more coins if you beat your previous score. The meaning was clear to me when I saw it, but perhaps it's mis-written. I'll try to get a screenshot next time I see the tip.
Yeah, I got that... but I've beat my previous score on the first 6 levels, and haven't earned any coins that way...
I really hope no one takes you seriously and ignores good games. All you do is hijack these threads with your mindless whining.
Well, I've been playing the game and haven't felt the urge to spend money on IAPs (granted I'm playing on the lowest difficulty). I still think it was a questionable decision to not allow grinding on past levels unless you reset your game. And still hope the dev reconsiders that decision. And still think it's odd how some people trash other games for doing similar things, but overlook it here. Just sayin'. It's a fun game and I'm enjoying it. Just a pet peeve with the whole IAP thing. Some people might like to play with a fully upgraded weapon to have fun raining chaos. There's a stumbling block to do that in this game and people shouldn't be blinded by that just because it is technically impressive and very well made game. Not trying to discourage people from buying it. It's worth the $3. Just a little thorn there that takes away a bit of the enjoyment.
It's like Infinity Blade's model. You can get potions and gear in IB with IAP but no need. I played 16 stages in Tough Guy (haven't touched Sissy difficulty) and the only times I've died were falling due to bad jumping timing, no enemy ever killed me yet, and I haven't touched IAP. Plenty of health packs and grenades ingame so I can spend the coins I earn upgrading weapons. And the rate you get to buy and upgrade weapons with coins you earn from the game is satisfactory imo. It's not a stupid progress halting IAP model like Supermagical (and the non consumable items cost a ton there). I absolutely hate SM's system.
I'm one of those people and I don't have any problem admitting it. You know why? Because there's no such thing as a paywall in A-Max. You may screw up, and use all your bullets, but guess what? You can replay any of the other levels and stock up on ammo, or you could go on hacking and slashing crates, collecting ammo, health and grenades as you go along. There's not going to be a single moment in the game where you can't progress. Sure, you may not be able to upgrade all your weapons in one playthrough, but you don't need to...you can still finish the game just fine. Other games aren't like that...you're either forced to grind till the next millennium or cave under pressure and buy IAP. It.Doesn't.Happen.Here. Considering ammo's also "consumable", your fun raining chaos is going to be extremely limited. After 5-starring all of the levels, I had planned to go through the game a second time, just shooting any and everything...it hit me that if I did that, I would lose all my ammo within a matter of minutes. You can't rely on your guns. You have to knife everything you can and then take out whatever crap's bothering you with guns. Sure, that may just be a dirty tactic from the developers to make you spend money on ammo, but then again...nothing's preventing you from seeing the end of the game.
Back in the day platformers were different. They were much more difficult. This game is easy. They didn't have star rating for level completion. This does. The game is designed so that replay value comes from replaying levels to see if you can do better or improve your character. Unfortunately, this particular game makes you chose between the two. Lose your stage scores and progress or don't improve your gear. If the game was designed to allowed to grind (replay over and over), why even have this reset to earn more gold "feature"? There's no story so playing in order doesn't matter. Why not just let people replay the levels and earn gold without having to reset? Because they want to inconvenience us if we don't want to pend more money. Plain and simple. There can be no other explanation. Quite simply, for some people, myself included, tactics like that cheapen a game, reduce the fun, and are ultimately leading to the overall deterioration of the AppStore. When it's a company I formerly loved like Wandake, it's all the more upsetting. I'm sick and tired of fanboys and apologists crying "I finished without IAP" or "it's not really necessary" in every freemium and paidmium thread. The grey area between simple unlocks and manipulative IAP is going to be viewed differently by everyone but the fact is that if there is consumable IAP, the dev put it there for a reason and there is going to be some push to use it. Whether that push is easily avoided is beside the point. I simply don't want my games to keep reaching for my wallet. I want mechanics designed for fun and exciting gameplay, not cash grabs. You can let yourself be blinded by the dire need for good action platformers on iOS and ignore the facts, but it doesn't change them. This game intentionally forces you to choose between inconvenience and payment. Is the paidmium model here horrible? No, as I've said it's a pretty good game, but it's still paidmium, still not as good as it could have been, and still somewhat offensive to the paying customer.
I can see your points. I guess I was just rubbed the wrong way when everyone jumped down Gameloft's throat for Wild Blood's IAPs (and believe me I've hated on GL for other games use of them). You may need to grind a little in that game, but far from the level of grinding in other games. But you can easily finish that game as well without IAPs. Since that game's fresh in my memory, that's where maybe it stood out to me a little more here. Anyway, no big deal. As I mentioned, I do like this game a lot. Just don't necessarily like that you can't grind for cash. The knife is probably the most important weapon here. No hard feelings 'casket.
Hey JBRUU I guess I could put it on a wish list but as strange as it seems I haven't lately at least been in the mood for shooting and slashing zombies although it can be enjoyable!!! That could change !!!!! Just a question though... Is this a game with true longevity to stay on a device?
Royce, every "fact" that you have listed in your post is nothing but opinion. Don't insult fellow members by suggesting that they are "blinded" or fooling themselves. You have no more access to the truth than anyone else, particularly when you insist on speculating about a developers intentions. The actual fact is that everyone brings their own biased opinion to this issue, including you. Frankly, I'm finding this whole subject increasingly tedious.
So you believe developers may invest time into creating IAP with the expectation that no one will buy them? I'm pretty sure it's a fact that when consumable IAP is present, the developer intends for you to buy them, and will push to some degree to achieve that goal. I wasn't intending to insult anyone, but I am sick of people indignantly defending consumable IAP in paid games when you don't "need" it. It's like an arthritic pickpocket. Just because he never manages to extract the wallet from your pocket, are you gonna let him keep reaching into your pants? Personally I want paid games to keep their hands out of my pants
Some devs add IAP because it's an "auto-win more" and not because they want you to. One example can be in this similar scenario. If i were to port Mario 3 into iOS, i could add IAP to make all stages accessible right away. I can also add IAP for buying items (take note: consumable) into your inventory. Did that make the game bad? No. It's still Mario 3. But the fact is, there will be people like Gabrien who will call it out just because the IAP was added. It might not be him, but there will be. If anyone ever tries buying the IAPs, it's still Mario 3, and it's extra income for the devs. The one who bought IAP got his "soft cheat" but nobody else gets burnt by this IAP system.
Funny thing is I ended up buying an IAP in Wild Blood because I was so sick of the troll thing in Chapter 7 and no matter what, the framerate on my iPhone 4 wasn't helping. I used the revive thing and the rest on potions and crap. Did I beat it? Nope. I spent $10 on it in total and it's not on my phone anymore. >_> Anyways, of course there are no hard feelings from my side either dude. It's just that the App Store is like this now, whether or not I like it or not and I don't want people avoiding such a godamn awesome game like this because of completely, completely optional IAPs. I've been here for a long time and people know my stance on IAPs. Hell, I deleted Shufflepuck Cantina because I thought it was too "IAP-oriented"...my stance on IAPs will never change, but we're all too weak to combat this crap.
