Similar to the Google one: http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/search/googlewidget.html I use custom strings for most of my searches; they're handled by Firefox and not Google so that widget doesn't really meet my needs... is there a Firefox one floating about? Or one which uses your default browser's address bar? I'm sure there's gotta be something out there which enables URL entry in Spotlight (if it doesn't do it already and I'm just missing it) but I'm not sure it'd work with my custom search terms.
Just in case someone else stumbles upon this failure of a thread... the solution came in the form of Alfred, which is available completely free on the Mac App Store. It handles the search strings itself before forwarding them to the browser, so it'll work with everything.
I missed this thread, and probably would not have mentioned Alfred since it is independent as you noted. Quite a good little search tool though. I have found that the "Mac Gems" that are put out by MacWorld are generally pretty good (especially the free ones) - especially since I am not a native Mac user and need all the help I can get to learn to use the Mac with efficiency.
