One of the things I loved about my previous job is how using Outlook gave me reliable popup notifications for important events. I know Gcal has a similar feature too, but it only pops up if I keep the calendar open which is kind of pointless to me. I don't really want to do SMS notifications for all my events and I tried using Gtalk for e-mail popup notifications. I think that's the closest experienced I'll get with reliable notifications, but I think it's really annoying to have a pop up notification every time I get an e-mail (and most of them are non essential). So what do you guys use for Google Calendar notifications? I could techinically go back to using outlook, but I really don't need anything overly complex like that anymore and I prefer the simplicity (and the free factor) of google apps.
do you want notifications on your iphone or on the pc? if on the iphone, the default calendar has caldav support, so you can sync with your google calendar and get notifications if theyve been set for an event. or you could use pocket informant (my personal fav) or another calendar app that supports caldav. on the desktop, you just need a client with caldav support. most email clients these days support it, and outlook can sync with google with google calendar sync (a free utility from google) for pc. on a mac you can sync google calendar with ical or entourage 2008, mobileme, etc. i love how everything gets pushed and pulled between devices with google calendar and my exchange account, so i can post something from a client workstation or from a meeting, and itll be there on my outlook calendar before i get back to the office! awsome
I do use notifications for certain types of reminders on the iphone but for I always program those on my iphone for the built in alarms (no sms because I don't have an unlimited package) since they can't be done through Google Calendar's web browser. I was kind of hoping I could avoid using a client because I like to keep things simple and lightweight. I tried using thunderbird on the pc a long time ago as an e-mail client but I went back to the Gmail browser for the simplicity.
