I just got it today. It has an option saying it will connect my calls for free. Gives an input for the number to call, plus an input for which phone to ring (I only have my iPhone associated to the account).

Does it really do this free of charge? I just can't see how this can be possible without voip going through a wifi connection. I have about $9 in my flex account(I'm iPhone unlocked for tmobile). Will it cost me my minutes to initiate the call through google voice? I don't want to waste precious minutes on a test) so if you have google voice please let me know how this works.

Probably not. Google Voice is free, and I don't even have a [cell] phone, but I still use it. Sometimes...

I use it for business. It is totally free (except international calls) and it works great!

When I get a call it shows up on my phone at Google voice calling. That way I know how to answer (personal or business). You can also set it so it'll show the caller's number, if that's what you want.

It's free, so it's worth trying. I was pleasantly surprised by it.

Not sure what you're even asking but in order to call with your gVoice number it requires money (google gives you 10 cents to try it out). It's not a free service.

Calls you receive are either routed to another phone or to voicemail which is free. This is actually an old service Google offers to the homeless near their headquarters.

If someone calls your gVoice number and it is routed to your cell then it counts just as any other phone call would.

Okay thanks everyone, I think I get how it works now.

@NotYou: does it always have the same number for when recieving a call forwarded from your gvoice?

No, but it can. You can choose to have it show your GV number or the caller's number.

I have it show the GV number because I need to answer the phone differently if it's a business call or personal call.

One of the best things is the voicemail. It sends me an email transcription of the message, so I can read it on my phone without having to check my messages. It's not completely accurate, but it works.
