Anyone getting the Samsung Galaxy S2?

I got one to see what Android was like compared to the Iphone 4 and I'm loving it. Obviously the hardware is newer so it isn't fair to compare until the iPhone 5, however Android is so nice to use after IOS. It's just so much easier to customise and the true multitasking is great, the battery life doesn't seem to be any different too. I love the browser because I can just view flash content, like the proper BBC Iplayer and watch it like I do on my PC, instead of having to wait for content for the iPhone version. The browser also doesn't stutter at all, it loads up instant and flash is just smooth, can view the proper Youtube too, instead of the shitty iPhone version with the horrible search.

The screen is nicer, I like it mainly for the fact that it is bigger and doesn't make me have to squint or zoom in to see anything all the time. The OLED display is also really nice for the colours, so much brighter and better to see when it's sunny. My only problem with it is now I notice pixels because I couldn't notice any on the iPhone 4. The speaker is louder and the Camera is much better with full 1080P and the quality is really good, though it seems a bit jerky.

The best thing about it is I'm not locked into iTunes and I can load my music straight up and not have to sync or worry about iTunes wiping my phone when I sync to a new PC. It's so nice to have freedom and functionality back, I can use so many more codecs that I actually want to use! The only problem now is it has the shitty Samsung software on it, which seems to have improved as you don't need anything on your PC and you can just ignore it. Though I cannot wait for a raw Android rom to load up on it as Samsung have made the UI look far too much like the Iphone.

The phone is better in every single way but the build quality, I still think the iPhone 4 feels far more expensive. I don't like how light it is, I think that makes things feel cheap, especially for the size. I love how the iPhone 4 is glass and metal, where as the Samsung feels cheap as it's plastic like the 3GS. The back cover also is so thin and feels so cheap when it's off, but when it's on you do no notice. I guess it's made to fit like a glove so it doesn't start to push in or creek as it gets old. The up side to it is I'm not buying a cover for it as I do not care if it gets scratched on the back. The iPhone however I did care and the phone looked shit because of the case surrounding it.

I'll be selling my iPhone 4 and making this phone my main, Android is just so much better and the keyboard seems up to par as the iPhone these days. It's a nice stepping stone until we see what Apple does with the iPhone 5, however I doubt it can be any better than the specs on this phone. I have a feeling the iPhone 5 will just be an underclocked iPad 2, which means like 900mhz CPU, 512mb ram, 16 or 32GB and it'll probably have the same screen. For that I'd rather have Android because I do not have to put up with iTunes.

Windows phone 7 for me. It's like the best of both worlds.

Plus my HTC 7 Mozart is of exquisite build quality.

I love the customization of Android, I love the regulated AppStore of iOS, I love the slick operating System of Windows Phone 7,
They all have things to offer, but I do recommend buying something other than iOS every so often, it's really refreshing.

I got a G2x two weeks back, and I've been loving it. Never going back to iOS after I was introduced to stock vanilla Android. Best user experience ever.

Also, of you want a treat, download the Opera browser (not the Mini, the full version) and see how blistering fast it is.

Wonder how long till Hodapp steps in with his anti android talk ;)

    I kid.

But seriously, android is quite nice. I've had my HTC Inspire for a while now, and depending on the next iPhone model, I'll probably stick with android. Android Market sucks, but since I have an iPad and only game at home, it's no big deal. And widgets sure are useful.

On a straight what-it-can-do-without-hacking base, android wins.

Never used an android device as yet although I've been tempted a few times but I'm more of a netbook kind of guy and like to keep my phone a separate device mainly for battery reasons.

I have however noticed the Asus eee transformer and all the positive press it's been attracting it's becoming quite/very tempting to me.

I like samsung as a make as well though in fact every single netbook I've bought has been from samsung.

It's impossible to take the OP seriously, since it reads like a paid advertisement. The passive-aggressive slaps at Apple don't help, either.

As far as any anti-Android bias here, I really couldn't say one way or the other. What I do know, though, is that this site is very clearly presented as an iOS gaming site — there can't possibly be any confusion on that score. So coming here to talk about Android is much the same as logging onto a site for Chevy fans to talk about how awesome your Ford is.

I've been an Android user since 09' and I love Android. Truly is a "Pocket-Computer" once you have all the tweaks and everything set-up right. As of right now I have a Droid X but I NEED the Galaxy S2 when it comes to Verizon.

You realise this thread is posted in "Other > Lounge"? Why don't you go complain about those Xbox 360 and PS3 threads there too? This section is for other stuff.

Anyway, I recently bought a HTC Desire Z (because it's HTCs newest android phone with a keyboard), so I'm not going to get anything new soon.

Of course I realize that ...seeing as I can read English and all. What's your point?

Reading and understanding are not the same thing.

On topic: Got an HTC Thunderbolt and love it. Couldn't ask for a better phone for my needs. As for the Galaxy, I thought about that, but Samsung consistently make cheap feeling products so I tend to avoid them. to be fair, the Samsung handsets I have had, lasted and were durable but felt second rate.

With the Amazon cloud player, I don't have clog my internal or SD card with gigs of music; it's all apps now. The kickstand is also a nice touch.

This is a phone I could see keeping for a couple of years without needing to replace. Of course once the dual core phones start coming out...

Got to ask one question to people here who like Android phones... how much gaming do you do on your phone? Apart from gaming apps, I would see no reason to be with an iPhone really. I use a Blackberry, but have an iPod touch for my mobile gaming needs. And an iPad for on-the-couch gaming. I don't think I would want to replace my iPod with any other device, certainly not PSP and other portable consoles. And neither do I see the combination of my phone (could be any, BB/ Android) + iPod touch getting replaced with only a phone (either a iPhone or Android or BB). I have these devices for very separate purposes. And there's only so much convergence that I want.

If you want a phone for a pure smartphone, Android is better. If you want your phone for a gaming device as much, if not more than a phone, the iPhone is better. No tablet can ever replace a laptop, so tablets are worthless, be it iOS or Android. So, there you go. Android gaming pales horrifically in comparision to iOS gaming. Windows 7 phone is an embarrassing disappointment as a gaming device. Likely, that's a software issue more than anything.

You mean no current tablet can replace a laptop. The gap is definitely closing as the years pass... I think eventually we'll see a merge.

Well, that settles it then - I'm selling my iPad 2. Thanks for straightening me out on that. Just because I really like it and like using it, that doesn't mean it isn't worthless. ;)

I have the T-Mobile G2x with the Nvidia Tegra 2 Dual Core, so gaming is really nice and quick on my phone, especially on Tegra 2-Only games... Graphics are top notch.

Tablets WILL eventually replace laptops. In very near future.
