I would like to ask JasonSmith's question again, specifically for the Navigon US and Europe. Does it work strictly on GPS or does your data need to be activated? The reason I ask is that I'm in the US and changed to TMobile (no internet). Therefore, if it needs the internet I cannot buy this product. My second question is: will the iPhone's GPS system work at all if I have no internet plan or is that an internal function completely independent from your carrier/plan? This is important to me because I would like to eventually buy Europe's navigation system since I'll be travelling a lot. Thank you very much guys, I appreciate your help.
Yep, it should indeed. Won't work as well on 2G though. With all the GPS apps, lots of space is recommended as it stores probably about 800 megs of map data on the device
So would Navigon work, for example, if your sim card is out of the iPhone? I know this sounds outrageous but if it works, then it certainly will in any other condition. I don't know if anybody has tried this but it could be the best test if it actually works.
This is not necessary. The default of the iPhone is to have data roaming switched off - so no Internet whatsoever outside your home country. I used Navigon last week to drive around France and it worked - with this default setting.
