To me, Zenonia delivered exactly what was promised - an action rpg that takes more than a few hours to finish. The grinding isn't too boring compared to other similar rpg's and is probably why I keep playing it when I'm bored - the actual storyline isn't exactly the best out there so I could care less about the 2-3 hours of "story".
The Quest I knew about -- had that on PocketPC. Dragon Bane II is definitely a possibility. Temple of Arkadoom is crap. It isn't even a proper RPG, more like a dungeon-crawling hack-and-slash, and it's not very well done besides.
The only quality RPG in the store is Zenonia right now, maybe Vay depending on taste. iPhone seriously lacks RPGs, like I stated in another thread asking about a similar question. There are thousands of minigame-type apps, puzzle games, platformer games or action games, and yet only one or two quality RPGs. Maybe they're just that hard to make. I purposely did not count western RPGs because I personally do not consider them as works of quality. They do not have the culture and style required for a good RPG like China, Japan, and Korea. They are more suited for action games, simply put, since those require little culture and only require good game-making technology. Each country has their own game-making niche. I am interested to see what the new Gamevil games will be like too.
yeah, for now zenonias your best bet, wait a few months and you'll see a few more in the app store, but for now just pick up zenonia.
I almost feel like the RPG genre is one of the most highly anticipated markets for the iDevice, and the one with highest expectations! What I want is a good turn based RPG with western styling. I'm fed up of playing a 10 year old with green hair and a sword 5 times my size, in a world populated with kids with giant swords.... Basically, I want a game of final fantasy polish, with D&D story and characters! Devs, I have spoken, now get to work. You have my permission to use my likeness,....
Have you tried The Quest Lite? It is a turn-based WRPG in the style of Might and Magic, only with one character. IMHO, it is one of the best games for iphone/touch, but then, I am biased. BTW, if you decide to upgrade, you'll be able to transfer your progress from the Lite to full.
I am hoping that Square Enix comes out with a revamped iphone version of Chrono Trigger or any of the Final Fantasy games or maybe even a brand new game. Maybe the reason why there aren't many "quality" RPG games is because it cost too much to develop and charging only $9.99 isn't worth it.
