Well game is exactly how I remember it from childhood - hard , but at least I got to city on iOS version years later after playing PC version
Very unique and influential. Carries a great atmosphere and art style. Tons of unique deaths that had me chuckle or made me downright uncomfortable. Controls are sort of hard to get used to but still intuitive and effecient. Blackthorne and Limbo will come next I'm sure
Unfortunately I agree, I had really fond memories of this but while I'm not sure it could be classified as unplayable the controls annoyed and frustrated me enough to give up on it very early on. A real shame as controls aside its a solid port.
I get so tempted by this every time it goes on sale, which is actually quite often, It is the fact that I have heard so many bad things about the controls that holds me back, and also, I am not good at arcade games, or at least those that require super fast reflexes either.
I played on iPad and, in my opinion, controls have some problems, but it's not unplayable at all. A friend of mine, who used to play it on Sega Genesis, didn't complain. It's not much a fast reflexes games. It's more like "trial and error". You die a lot of times trying different things until you find the right choice. It's like Prince of Persia, but more puzzler.
I'm also on the edge... I'm intrigued by its cinematic nature (a la the Half Life series) but the comparisons to Prince of Persia turn me off (that game really frustrates me, especially the iOS version).
Why doesn't everyone have this already? I remember being excited to play it on Super Nintendo (and paying a lot more); Another World is a minor video game classic and a no brainer at $0.99. It's an abstract adventure game that's umm... out of this world. It's not easy but requires quick thinking. Worse case, use an online walkthrough if you get really stuck. It's more about quick use of environment to solve puzzles than about combat or dexterity. The controls aren't meant to be arcade fast paced, they never were. The controls were always a little stiff by design - it's a thinking game, not twitch based. Grab that vine and swing. Prince of Persia is not a good comparison.
I'm not sure what the difficulty levels change. The game is fair with checkpoints and as UC pointed out, it's a classic and it's a buck. If you haven't bought it, do.
I always think about buying this when it goes on sale. Then I remember how much I royally sucked at the game.
