Sooo...Lately I've been trying a bunch of things with my new mac. Trying to get themes, candybar, istat, etc. All these things kept building up and I wasn't using any of this in the end. I would like to do a complete restore and start fresh if it's possible, but I have no idea how. BUT, I want to keep my apps and music on itunes if it's possible. but if it's not can I move it onto a dvd disk or cd?

    i'm such a noob

What's stopping you from just deleting the apps? Get a program that uninstalls apps properly (I use AppZapper) and there won't be any traces left over.

Because a lot of my stuff is messed up too. The menu bar on top doesn't even show up properly. It doesn't show wifi, spotlight, etc. All it shows is the time. All I want to do is start over

... wait. When I select "move to trash" on an app, it won't delete the all the files?

Not necessarily, when you install an app, other miscellaneous things are installed to enable the app to run. When you just move it to trash, when you empty it you aren't deleting those add-on files.

Like Midian said, AppZapper works and is free, though personally I use CleanMyMac.

Make sure you have all the apps (which are redownloadable) anyways, but to save you the trouble) and other media you want to keep on your iPod and an external harddrive. Throw in the install disc and you're good. Use Senuti if you want to get songs off your iPod.

    Another question...
    Screen shot 2010-08-05 at 07.55.21.png
After installing a them named SOG dark, I used it for a month. Then I tried to uninstall it and ran in to problems. It said it had an error and to contact the dev. I then logged out, and it succesfully reinstalled for some reason. After that, I tried to use spotlight but I couldn't. It wouldn't click for some reason. All it did was turn blue. Then all of a sudden all of my menu bar icons dissappeared except for the time and day. I went in to menu bar extras to see if I could restore the items, but even if I clicked the ---.menu icons, nothing happened. The only icons that don't go onto my menu bars are the ones that I had on the menu bar before. It seems like somethings gone wrong with the files or something. What's wrong now? (i hope this all makes sense)

What a lame attempt at sarcasm.

If you read, you'd realize that he's been tweaking the shit out of his Mac [without caution apparently] and that's what is causing these problems.

No need to be an ass. And if you still choose to, at least come up with something wittier.

Yeah, they pretty much do, unless you insist on loading a bunch of hacked-up crap that futzes with the OS.

Besides, last time I checked their website, The Jackwagon Store was fresh out of those stickers of Calvin pissing on a Apple/Windows logo.

Heres what you do, get your Mac OsX OS disc...i have the snow leopard one and put it in you computer. Then restart your computer with the disc inserted and as soon as the computer shuts down and before it reboots hold down the option key. This will bring you to a maenu tht should have the mac osx harddrive icon and the mac os x os icon. Double click the os cd icon and reinstall or repair the OS that way...ot just call 1800myapple and talk to a person who will guide you through the steps.

Ah I see. That's a shame a theme caused so much trouble and put you off of theming your Mac; I find it to be fun to do :)

I use CleanApp, and although it costs a little bit, it's worth it for the logging, the deleting all files associated with an app, the archives, the languages that you can delete (German seriously took up 1GB of space on my computer ), and a lot more. It's really nice.
