99% of tablet users don't need more than the Fire offers, but 99% of people also like to think they need more. That includes the majority of users on this forum. Somehow the people here have this idea that all this extra crap makes them more technologically adept or something.
I've used the Asus Transformer Prime and it's a much better tablet than the iPad 2 but it has no 3G option so I had no interest in buying one after hearing that. The whole docking station thing though is great and it is what Apple should do, but they wont because they suck and hate functionality. Bought my mother an iPad 2 because she wanted one for Christmas and you just sit there doing nothing on it because it's so restrictive. Apple want you to use it their way or no way at all and I hate that.
What exactly did you hope for it to do? When you purchase something, you should know what you're getting and what it can do. If you purchase it in hopes that it can run full-fledged PC games or something, then that's your own fault.
Not for me, it's a present for her as she wanted one. Only she doesn't use it and goes back to her Laptop because it is better. - You aren't lock to iTunes and she didn't like using that. - She hated not being able to download stuff from the browser. - Not being able to view Flash player content. - The speaker is crap. - The cam quality sucks compared to the Laptop for Skype calls. - The wifi performance is crap and it didn't support 5ghrz so she had to buy a dual band router. - Doesn't support lots of codecs. - Cannot transfer files straight over. - doesn't use a standard micro usb port so you have to get all new Apple cables. The list goes on on why she doesn't use it anymore and these are all things I agree with. They're all things that are reasonable to have on a Tablet and what tables like the Asus Transformer Prime and upcoming Android tablets will offer. I can do so much on my Galaxy S2 and I switched from my iPhone 4 and I will never look back to Apple. Their products are pure hype when you can get much better and for cheaper elsewhere. I laugh when I see Apple Laptops for a couple grand when you can get Windows Laptops with the same specs for less than half the price. People just buy for the name and the looks, which is funny because then they cover it up with an ugly case. With my GS2 it's made from plastic so I can drop it and not have a case and not care. The iPhone 4 was glass and metal..... so stupid for a Mobile as it got scratched to ####.
I'm sorry, but those are all things that she should've known about or that you should've informed her about. Personally, I watch TV shows and movies on my iPad 1 and I find it perfectly fine, so maybe she was expecting some surround sound system. Wifi is your own issue since my wifi is fine. Flash, downloads, codecs, and file transfer are all things that you should know about. Assuming that you have some faint idea of what she uses her laptop for, then you should've bought her a present based on what her current uses are, but then again, it's really no one's fault if you didn't know. Lol, how many cables does she need? You're saying it like she needs 5-10, when IMO, the max you need is 2 and they give you 1. Honestly, say what you want about Apple, but you can't deny that their products are nice and have an amazing build quality. People want nice things, there's nothing else to it. They want a good-looking wife or husband, they want a nice car, they want a nice house, they want nice clothes. I don't see what's wrong with that, it's just how people are.
