I realize where I'm posting and the potential bias from the answers I might get, but I wanted to get some feedback on what people thought of Android tablets. I'm currently using an iPod Touch 4G and iPad (1st gen which my wife has now taken hostage). Given that, I've been looking for something larger than an iPod Touch and have been curious about 2 in particular that seem decent. I'd love a new iPad, but I really like the form factor of the smaller tablets (5" and 7"), but feel almost lost with what's compatible with Android market software and what isn't. The 2 tablets I've been eyeing are The Galaxy Player 5 which was was just recently released and the Acer A100. I like the form factor of the A100 at 7" and it seems to be loaded with a decent hardware spec. I'd have to see the GP5 for myself since it seems like it might still be too small of form factor given I already have a touch. Any advice? I'm a heavy iOS gamer, but really don't think I can afford another iPad.
Considering how fast the tablet market is moving I would go with the SGP5 or the Kindle Fire. The A100 looks nice but why spend over $300 on a secondary tablet?
I wouldn't class the galaxy player 5 as a tablet it's more of an iPod Touch competitor with a slightly larger screen and battery does seems pretty cool though I've been looking at it myself. If I was going to buy an Android Tablet I'd say the Galaxy tab 7 inch would be the best fit for myself don't really know about the Acer but Samsung Tablets seem to be the best of them right now.
I guess it really depends on what you ant to use it for. If you're still going to do most of your gaming on your Touch, I'd recommend the Kindle Fire as well-be warned though Amazon is really laying it on thick with their services, and the app market won't be on there (presumably you can still access the web market). It'll be a far from vanilla Android experience. As for your concerns on what may or may not run on your tablet from the market, I can say from my own experience, so long as you have gingerbread or preferably Honeycomb, most everything should run. If you go the web market, it will even tell you if an app is compatible with your tablet when you look it up. Though it's too big for what you want, I picked up the Toshiba Thrive when it came out, and love that thing to death. And I'm not a fan of Samsung, by any means, I've heard little negativity about the Galaxy Player, and I would say go with that. Or Go play with both of your choices at a Best Buy or something and see which you prefer.
Kindle Fire, or Galaxy Tab. Those are the only 2 tablets other than my iPad 2 that I have not hated [using]. Sat in BestBuy toying around with a bunch and the Tab was kinda cool...I have yet to use the Fire (Hence the [] around using) and am only judging on its capabilities and design aspects. Tis quite perty.
