With that sensation, I know that it is directly related to my allergies-- when I am on medication or my skin is better, I hardly get that feeling at all. I don't know about you, though.....

Haha I kind of get that... When I scratch the side of my stomach, it feels like i'm scratching like the back of my head a bit (but like under the skin/ the back of my brain or something)...

It's interesting how everyone seems to have similar things like this, but all a little bit different!

Yeah, I have that. I think most people do.

Another thing, which I've never really asked anyone about - in darkness is it normal to not see complete black but to see everything really grainy in lots of different colours. Kind of like pixels. I'm guessing this is normal, but I would be amazed if other people see darkness without it being all grainy.

Like the image below, this is how I see complete darkness (although not quite as pixelated). Is this normal?

One other thing that I like to think about is how people could see colours differently to one another. For example when I see the colour "green", it could look different than how other people see "green".
And imagine a picture with green grass, yellow sand and a blue sky. Now imagine that picture with blue grass, pink sand and green sky - that is how someone else could be seeing it, but to them it would look completely normal. But so far, there is no way to prove this wrong or right because you'd have to be two people to be able to compare colours, which is impossible.

You have no clue how much I think about that. I'm gonna raise my kid that yellow is blue and green is purple, and so on. I wanna see what happens

The "displaced itching" I believe is related to how the nervous system is wired up, and I'm pretty sure everyone gets it from time to time. It's possible to trigger a response in another part of the body when scratching an itch that can either cause an itch elsewhere or cause a feel of relief. Similarly, it's possible to get an itch that feels like it's in one place, but scratching that place doesn't give much relief because the itch is actually elsewhere on your body.

As for "noise" when you close your eyes, this I believe has to do with your optic nerves, and is in part related to the effect of "seeing stars" when you rub your eyes vigorously. When you're trying to fall asleep your brain can play a part too, turning the feedback from the optic nerves into more than they really are.

The body is a weird beast. :)

Yeah, the brain never shuts down, so you'll never be able to see total darkness. Even in situations where there's virtually no light, there'll be these flickering I see that make me instinctively duck. It's really weird.

And HOLY MOTHER OF GOD I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE! I've always wondered that, about colors and how one person's green is another person's blue.

Everybody has that. You really notice it getting tattoos. Usually, when I get one, it hurts in a specific spot about a foot away or so.

I actually found out I had it when I was still in art school.:p It really explained a lot, especially my ability to understand abstract art. I always just thought I was a little touched in the head.:D

I think this happens to everyone, like when we see someone we like, we become happy. Or when we see something terrible, we feel terrible. Its the same with sound too, like if we hear a good song or if we hear someone screaming.

I think you mean peripheral vison + shadows.

If anyone is interested in synethesia, I recommend two really great books.
"The Man Who Tasted Shapes" by Richard Cytowic
"The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat" by Oliver Sacks
All of Oliver Sacks books are great reads. A movie was made of him called "Awakenings" starring Robin Williams and Robert DeNiro. I can't recommend the movie enough (based on true cases), it makes me cry every time I see it.

Definitely. I loved Musicophilia. It talks quite a bit about synesthesia too, mostly audio>visual. That's what I mostly have, which is why I read it.

I wonder how many of us are actually lying just to sound cool... "Often times, when I look at colors, I can hear them... whispering into my ears and telling me of the things they had witnessed, the adventures they have seen..."

I was wondering about this . . . whenever I close my eyes I see random flashes of colours. I thought I was just weird. :p I don't think I have synesthesia but I do visualize sheet music in my head as music is played.

A question to everybody (vaguely related) . . . close your eyes and the tip of a pencil or scissors or something right in front of your forehead. Think about the object there . . . do you get a tingly feeling in your head?

    Not true.

In total darkness, you cannot see anything. Of course, total darkness can really only truly be achieved underground, and when you reach total darkness, you can't see ANYTHING.

The flickering is only there because you THINK it's there. It's impossible for you to really be seeing things in total darkness because your eyes are just relaying the color black to your eyes.

Meaning, if you think about something else in total darkness, you'll see it really is pitch black. It's only when you think about it that you see things.

Yeah I get that, and most people should. Because it is you thats holding a pencil in front of your forehead, you anticipate it and your brian tells you that there is something very close to your head and it could be dangerous so you should get ready to move. Of course, that's only because you know that there is something in front of you. Whereas if you close your eyes and someone else were to hold a pencil in front of your forehead without you knowing, then I doubt you would have the same feeling.

It's probably your mind subconsciously deriving information from your senses and giving you heads up. Not all of us have this special ability given to us from crossing neurons
