Based on legal advice, I have removed my review (it's takes Apple 24 hours) and hope whomever posted the "WorkList" review removes theirs. Also I have edited my responses in this forum based on legal counsel. I want to discuss it with the other party here, but can not talk about this matter anymore, Legal counsel says I can not discuss this matter any further.
Well I hope the attorneys don't "fix" the appstore the way they have "fixed" most things in the US.... the prices of the apps will skyrocket ....
He's probably getting his ass sued. So this guy uses reviews to announce updates about his game instead of in the description where it belongs...because "other devs do it too". dkramarc: you are full of shit* and a disgrace to the dev community. * I've seen other people cuss on here and I figured, why not...if any time is appropriate for it, now is that time. I am extremely pissed and sick of people abusing the system.
Dont be so judgemental. I always had my doubts for the OP`s innocence too. Atleast Doron was honest(and a little stupid, sorry) enough to admit he did it. Anyways doesnt really matter now if both did it or just doron. Or who started first. I hope they both resolve their issues and dont repeat such practice. I call for World Peace. Hand me that crown now.
That's cool you were able to find a suitable lawyer who offers counsel saturday nights or sunday mornings. Good luck to you. One ironic benefit is that both of you will probably sell more copies of your respective blackjack games if you bring enough publicity to the issue.
After reading everything this guy has said and done, and after a good nights sleep and further thought on the matter, I stand behind my opinion.
I have an easy system for keeping my review of other devs games fair. If its 3 or more stars then I'll leave a review. If its under that and I really didnt like the game I just dont bother leaving the review at all. Its the only way to avoid stepping on toes and being accused of dirty tricks! P
I can guarantee less people are gonna see it in a review than in the description. Unless you repeatedly review your own game over and over to keep the "updates" at the top? You can rate apps without leaving a comment at all.
Yeah, I think part of the problem here is that this person seems to be a little ignorant of the way the App Store works in general. He seems to not have realized the inherent problems that come with price drops and the ability to "rate on delete." He also seems to think that this "WorkList" reviewer owes him something. Honestly, if "WorkList" is just a regular consumer like me and you, he has every right to have left that comment and should not be under any obligation to remove it. Developers who practice shady tactics should not expect consumers to turn a blind eye simply because the shady dev reluctantly decided to start following the rules on the advice of "legal counsel." This guy's problem is that he made a lot of hasty assumptions, and then acted on them in the most unprofessional ways he could imagine. Just because a developer is a "one man shop" does not mean that he is exempt from having to learn about the industry and marketplace he chooses to participate in. I mean, he's certainly not required to do anything, but it's completely foolish to expect success without taking the time to understand the environment. As sympathetic as I am to the plight of independent developers, I cannot abide the excuse making and grumbling about being "just a one man shop" when the problem is clearly ignorance and an unwillingness to partake in the business side of things. Yeah, the barriers of entry are low, but otherwise, it's still business as usual.
A lot of this is about greed too. Its like 2 guys who opened up their own casinos in the same area. They both want you to come and gamble at their blackjack tables. One of them is giving out free chips, and the other one is putting sign in front of the other guys casino saying "this guys a scumbag and his blackjack table's are lousy, come play at mine down the road instead" Its competition and anyone can choose their own way to market their own product, but in the end you're both trying to make business and there's no need to resort to any kind of negative shady tactics to try and make your product look better. Honestly , I would choose to go to the casino of the guy who's offering free chips. At least he's marketing his product fairly without attacking anyone else.
I'd go there cause his chips have better graphics ...before someone goes into the gameplay>graphics thing... I know, it just doesn't apply to me here cause I'm only a very basic Blackjack player with very basic needs.
Free Chips? That guy is giving out free chips to anyone willing to go picket in front of the other casino...
We didn't go near the other casino, we removed the vulgar graffiti from the front of his own casino. Edit: and Dave's version!
