Hm, I don't think people are particularly vocal about this kind of thing to be honest.. As I say, if you did add it, I think it would be really popular, but there's not really a way to gauge how popular something is if people don't know it's an option in the first place. With respect, it's a bit like saying "Hey you guys, we'll add pie-throwing to the game if enough people ask for it".
I can imagine using pass&play with myself just to practice figuring out strengths and weaknesses of certain tactics before going online and wasting the time of a stranger (though I'm sure some would love an easy win). I could see my oldest son getting invested in pass&play as well when we are on road trips or just out of the house and playing as he could play the game and then pass it to me for my turn. That's one thing I'm fairly positive was even in the first Advance Wars on GBA. My main deal though is features need to be bundled in with the purchase since I don't buy stuff through IAP. But I don't necessarily need everything in every game in order to be happy... so it all depends on how much of what I want a game has versus how much I'm going to miss out on.
nightc1, Aliens versus Humans: Missions is free to download. There are two IAPs: one gets you the mission editor and the remaining 20 missions. It is 99 cents. The other gets you two other PvP modes (Classic is free and will stay free, Capture the Flag and Scamble PvP are 99 cents for both). So you're essentially getting Classic PvP for free with optional content for $1 or $2. That said, part of Aliens versus Humans: Missions is the ability to create your own missions and play them. These are private missions you play against Alien AI (from Easy to Truly Evil). However, in order to get the mission creator and the rest of the missions, you'll need to spend 99 cents. Worth every penny in my opinion... Al(ien)
I appreciate the clarification on the content. I'm planning on sampling the free/iap version and then buying the full regular version. That is assuming I like the game and want more. I wasn't big into XCom back in the day despite owning From The Deep and playing the demo version of the first game, Enemy Unknown, for a few days) on my parents state of the art (at the time) Pentium 75 computer. If I buy the main game I'll just suck it up and deal with whatever content is included. I think it's highly likely you'll get that $3 purchase. The cost isn't a concern, just I'm not comfortable with purchasing through IAP (for many reasons, including data backup) versus just buying an app with everything included and just playing the parts I want. I'm a bit too stuck in the old cartridge/disc/disk days of gaming and it was hard enough going all digital with the iphone. I'm so used to having something physical to look at and put on a shelf or sell if need be and at least with digital I get a file on my computer at a massively cheap price so I can sort of feel that I got something for my cash. I'm an outside the norm case by far... I never did buy any of the extra chapters for shareware games back in the day until they were repackaged and released as a complete game on cd or they hit a bargain bin. So I'm not even that big on expansions or games where you buy into chapter 1 knowing that it's not the whole experience and it may not ever get the funding to be a complete game. But that's me, I'm strange in where my comfort zone is for spending cash on gaming. I'm more apt top stop buying iOS games and go back to physical media games (that I can later sell) than I am to buy anything through IAP.
You're absolutely right, "hotseat" mode was included in Advance Wars, and I think it's one of the big reasons it was such a hit. It would be like playing Worms solely against the AI all the time. Honestly devs, if there's a way you can get this into the game with minimal effort, then I really think you should look into pass & play - even if it's as another IAP, it would be a great way to gauge how many people would be into it.
Can't seem to find the new version to try out. I checked the dev apps link on avh. Maybe I need to give it 30 mor min? Either way this is what I've been most looking forward to this evening. Edit, wait, sorry I was confused. This is coming tomorrow night. One more day then.
30 min left I presume. Also, just noticed the original game is 1.99... I take it there's a sale to mark the launch? Guess I'll try the free multiplayer game out and if I like it quickly hit the buy button. ... Edit. Oddly it's already out early. Sweet. It's downloading now. It's unusual for me to be this hyped over an ios release night, and it completely exceeded what I had hoped for. I also bumped a thread from last years sale on the deals forum as I think others may be interested. All in all, what an awesome night for gaming. Hopefully my enthusiasm doesn't get in the way. Not sure if I can handle the full complexity of x- com so a bit intimidated by this game... Thoughts on if this version allows the full management version as well as the main alien vs humans version which I heard was slightly less management driven as x- com. aliensvshumans Well-Known Member May 10, 2011 130 0 0 #314 aliensvshumans, Nov 23, 2013 Here is the scoop: Aliens versus Humans: Missions gives you the first 5 missions free. To get the remaining 20 missions is 99 cents. You also get Classic PvP for free and can play against others via Game Center. The 5 free missions are replayable and the in-game tutorial teaches you how to play (walk, shoot, throw and look). Aliens versus Humans: The Onslaught has the 25 missions for free but also has all of the base management stuff, research. We just put Aliens versus Humans: The Onslaught on sale for $1.99. So if you ever wanted to play The Onslaught, it would only really cost you an extra $1 to get it all of the missions from AvH: Missions and the base management stuff, research for the future.
