If you're involved with anything torrent related, you should know he was voted innocent by the jury. You may wanna read up on him, but he was accused of 'defrauding' the music industry. There is still justice in this world. http://oink.cd/
Defrauding the music industry, jesus. It's the producers that're doing that, squeezing every single penny out of the artists and turning them into cash cows (Lady GaGa used to be good!). What're they gonna get out of suing someone anyways? $50,000? It's pathetic.
Get drunk and celebrate, of course. This is a milestone because it means that other private trackers won't get taken down, which is great news for myself and a bunch of others.
Well obviously, but do you think this gives him an opening to start again? Or will he call it quits due to all the trouble it brings. I mean even if they can't find him guilty they can always start up a new case for some bullshit reason just to get the site disabled.
I suggest doing research yourself, but a tl;dr version is that Ellis used to host the largest music tracker, and one of the largest trackers of all time. He was arrested in 2007 on accounts of defrauding the music industry. It's painfully obvious he was innocent to begin with, as none of the music was hosted on oink.cd. It was recently discovered that he had 300k in his bank account, from both donations and his actual job. The hosting of Oink plus servers cost around 70k each year. Today, he was unanimously voted innocent and the charges were acquitted. Here's a bull shit story. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1243584/Software-engineer-accused-running-worlds-biggest-file-sharing-websites-acquitted-conspiracy-defraud.html
Biggest and greatest Oh, and earning money from donations isn't illegal which is why he got away with that At first the press said users were charged for access to the site which simply wasn't true.
Well now What is the biggest, with Waffles in a close second I wish Oink would be brought back, since I was never actually a member there
I was in there for a few years, had an awesome ratio too, even partcipated in the IRC channel. Good times ...are you in either What or Waffles? I kinda gave up after Oink blew up and never really tried to get in to any.
I was in What until my friend got me banned, but I'm still in Waffles. It's pretty easy to get in AFAIK compared What, but I was invited to Waffles through a What user, lol.
Not sure... one of them used to give invites out via IRC but last I checked they'd stopped doing it, and ban anyone who asks from the channel
I could invite once I reach power user, but I still need to upload 13gb. I know for a fact that What does give out invites if you pass their exam.
