I try! Actually, some of you guys in this very thread helped shape the game - off the top of my head we had a discussion about a space section and another on how the retry/continue system might work! Also, it's more than 16 ways to play - if you consider there's 8 perks on each side, and you can take 1 from each side into battle you get 8x8 combinations - which = 64. Add to that that you can play it *without* picking any perks and it becomes 9x9 - so 82 combinations :O Just for fun let's chuck in some of the figures I already mentioned 82 combinations x 20 characters x 10 colours x 11 music tracks x 10 planets = (gets calculator) er, = 1,804,000 possible combinations *faints* Now if I add in the options too... 1,804,000 x 10 = 18,040,000 *faints again* I think that's how it works! I never was very good at maths You'll turn up in some future game I'm sure! QS =D
Mother of God. O_O I love that you actually took the time to work that out. XD <3 this guy. *starts petition to have a giant metal casket that spews entrails out as the final boss of Fuel Supply, along with a death metal chiptune for that specific boss fight* *runs away*
At the moment I'm focusing on beating levels and unlocking stuff; the perks I'm currently using are ''A Little Breather'' and '' Star Power'' although ''No Fly-Fly Zone'' is also a favourite of mine. Will be fun to experiment with different combinations. The variety and attention to detail in SOS is really quite breathtaking.
I don't think Fuel Supply has any plans for boss battles - I was thinking more of naming a car after you. One that looks like Herbie probably. I'm sure you'd like that Thank you for the kind words, as always! And I think you're well on the way to getting everything. Hopefully you'll think the *real* game starts once you have everything at your disposal, and you can try survival mode to double your score (another feature discussed in this thread - you guys are awesome ) I *think* I know what you mean. They're based off retro machines from my childhood and give you points! Yay! The ZX80 appears on level 1, for example, and gives you 1k points - because that's how much memory it had! The ZX81 appears on level 16 and gives you 16k points - because that's how much memory it had (with an expansion pack). If you're from the UK, you might start seeing a pattern there QS =D
Ah , I see. Thanks. So far Rubber Pleasures ( what? ) is my favorite tune but Critical Error really gets you in that gaming vibe and probably the tune I use the most. That with the red background is pretty ominous. I think my favorite weapon is Gert's. Characters 14/20 Tunes 5/10 Colors 5/10 Perks 16/16 Oh well, off to unlock some more.
Blimey! You'll be able to help people on launch day then - I might take the day off I have an uneasy feeling that our lovely thread might be a bit alienating to people just popping in to see what's up. Sorry popper iners! These guys have been here since February at least, and got the game early as a thank-you. But hey everyone will be able to play it in just a few days, and in a brand new thread! Stick with us! QS =D
Yay! It looks fantastic on the iPhone 6, and plays really really well. I'm really enjoying it! As always, this has a learning curve, but I think I'm getting it. I've made it through the first boss, but some telephones took me out. Oh, death by telephone... stuff of weird nightmares. Game Center does seem to be down, but everything else is working great! Really enjoying it so far! Can't wait to unlock some forum legends!
Yay for the good stuff! I was wondering, how does the iPhone 6 fit in with your 'portrait' preference? Is it still viable (I've not seen an iPhone 6, let alone held one so genuinely curious!). Also, I've made another video Hope you like it! Two days to go! :O QS =D
By the way sometimes on a level i see a radar fall down and theres a small countdown on it. Whats that about ?
Ah, that's an easy one. On the sides of the screen you'll see some arrows - these show where aliens will come from - a 'radar' of sorts The Radar Dish that appears is a jammer - it will make those arrows disappear - the number next to it is its 'Life' - you have to shoot it that many times to get your radar back! The radar system is something I've personally found useful, especially on later levels when you might struggle to stay alive. You *can* play the game ignoring it completely of course! Up to you! Hope that helps! QS =D
I still like portrait better. Most portrait games already use the lower half of the screen more than the top half, so it's still pretty easy to reach. Also, I've become less of a hardcore iOS gamer since picking up a 3DS, and many portrait games are more casual (of course, there are plenty of exceptions). Of the stuff that I play a lot, most have controls on the lower half of the screen (like Zen Pinball) or are more swipe based, so it doesn't matter where the input goes. The highlight of all that is more screen real estate means I can see more and my fingers cover less (of course, that's true in landscape as well). All that being said, the bigger screen makes landscape also feel better. And SOS looks really good on the screen. It's really nice having more viewing space!
That's fair enough. Also, I love my 3DS, *and* my Vita - lovely machines! I'd love to get some sheepy games on those one day! I did promise you my next game would be in portrait mode - well, it turns out I'm *trying* to make it in both landscape and portrait. It does throw up a few challenges though, and I'll have to keep it at just 'portrait' if I'm slowed down too much. I'd love to get the game (Fuel Supply) out before the end of the year, otherwise I'll have released just one new game this year :O I get your points about the input - but I was thinking more of how it feels physically holding the phone - is it heavier, lighter, still able to fit in your palm, still able to play one handed? (as with Infinite?). The reason I ask is because I made Infinite with the phone in mind, but people played it on iPad too. Which it was made for, but I hadn't considered people's experience of playing the game in portrait on a much bigger device! So I was wondering if there was any discernible difference in the physical act of holding your phone and playing a game in portrait mode! Just out of curiosity! That's awesome! The game was made with iPad in mind, so will look good on the bigger phone, and I'm glad I was convinced by others to make it universal (which I'm very happy about because it does play very nicely even on the smaller screen). There may be some little details lost on smaller screens though. Nothing that affects the gameplay at all, just little cosmetic details! Two days, guys! QS =D
Ah, gotcha. I have always used an Otterbox Defender (the big one; still do with the 6), and it actually feels a bit lighter than the 5 with an Otterbox. Still easy to play with one hand. I took AS Infinite on a test run, and it plays perfectly on there. The 6 still feels like a phone, not like a tinier iPad Mini. My favorite portrait hand posture is three fingers on the back, rested on the pinky, with the thumb controlling. My thumb can reach to about 2/3 of the way up the screen like that, but not super comfortably. The biggest improvement I've noticed, however, was in Zen Pinball. I felt like my thumbs were too close together on the 5, but the little extra width on the 6 makes it great! So a two thumb input would be much better on new phones than it has been in the past. Also, I can see what you mean about SOS being designed for the iPad. The top part of the menu looks a little squished down, but not so much that it is visually offensive or annoying. No visual oddities in gameplay.
Hope you're getting a good night sheepie sleep. Tomorrow's a big day for you. Good luck on your launch! We'll be there with ya!
That's all good stuff to hear! Glad the 6 still 'feels' like a phone and that you're enjoying it! I have a 5s, but personally I preferred the 4s - it was a great size I thought, and really felt quite solid in comparison to my 5s. I do still like the 5s - and I'm sure i'll get a 6 or a 6s (next year no doubt!). There's certainly a market for bigger screens, and there are advantages game wise too, as you mention! Thanks for the info Thank you, sir! It's 5am - I think I'll go sleep. Tomorrow I have to go out for a bit during the day and do a not nice thing, and I'll be terrified all day for launch day the day after. That's a lot of days :O My nerves are shot! Honestly, I'm just glad you lot like the game! Otherwise I wouldn't sleep at all! *looks at clock again* Oh... QS =D
Holy cow (or sheep )...perhaps it's just because of my stupid work and not being able to dedicate all my time to SOS, but I started playing the game a couple of days ago thinking "Alright, I'll hopefully be able to have this finished off before launch", but MAAAAN does the difficulty start ramping up around level 40! With so much action on screen, you tend to forget about the whole air supply aspect of the game!!! (which inevitably leads to your doom seconds after starting XD) Also, my dear QS...you're the first developer I've known who hasn't been able to sleep after having their game approved. I shudder to think how you're going to be today/tomorrow. Perhaps me avoiding mentioning anything to do with entrails, guts, gore, etc. should help you get some sleep before your long day tomorrow! (OH, DAMNIT, I DID IT AGAIN! )
