    Talk about addicting,
I was having the worst day ever until I saw the pm from sheepy, I jumped about like a tit, but without the full bladder metal had :)

I wasn't planning on playing anything at all today as I'd promised to spend "quality" time with family, so the whole day has been spent looking forward to getting home and playing.

The wait has been totally worth it, I can't really add anything to what others have said but agree it's been great watching the development of the game.

I'll be gifting to the family who have ios devices on Thursday, I know they'll all love it, I so hope that you get the attention and success this game and yourself deserve. I'll leave proper review on games thread. Congrats on making a great game and good luck for Thursday.

Chocho is my lucky charm, got me up to level 10 only to discover... BOSS FIGHTS!

    hate Gary

Edit: Could not get passed the boss fight until I switched from Green screen to orange and then passed my first time! Yes, color makes a difference. By the way, LOVED the bonus level!!! So much variety in one game!

    W00t! \o/

If the bosses give you trouble, you should now have the option (in the option screen!) to turn them off! :)

They're pretty fun though - also, you get lots of points for defeating them (which you obviously forgo if you decide to ignore them).

Edit: Also: When you get to wave 10 of any planet, you unlock the next planet automatically - no need to defeat the boss - I didn't want people getting stuck, but again, no points if you skip them :D

When I unlock AndyC83 does that mean I can play as well as AndyC83?

Wish I could change my perks between levels without starting over. That's my only niggle so far. Up to level 17 and unlocking a few more familiar faces. No spoilers. :D

Right i'm on my second can of red bull today ! Couldnt sleep last night, had a 'quick' game of this and then was up till 4am playing it ! Crazy !

I'm loving this, all the nods to the 8 bits are great, the music by Yzermey (spelling !) is superb, heard lots of his work on new Speccy games.

I HAVE to keep playing to unlock the proper Jet Pac style levels later ! Crazy as i have Jet Pac on my Spectrum emulator on iOS but i'm loving this new revamped version.

Actually psj3809 mentioned this to me in a PM (at 4am!) and I wrote him a long and horribly rambling reason I chose to constrain being able to change perks to when you start a new game!

I'll try and make a bit more sense here!

You can stop playing at the end of each level and continue from the next level by pressing 'continue', right?

    This includes your score, obviously!

Now, say you select the second unlocked perk 'A score to settle'. This will give you 40k at the start of your game. Yay!

If you started the game, got 40k, then stopped playing and could select another perk, if you pressed 'continue' you'd still have the 40k from before + whatever effect the other perk you chose has.

Basically, you could 'cheat' a bit! :O

So it's to avoid 'exploiting' the system, and make the perk choice something you actually think about when you start a game.

When you've unlocked all the perks, you'll have 16 to choose from - and the act of choosing two means you've *not* chosen the other 14.

I'm hoping people will try out and recommend different combinations and find something they enjoy themselves :)

I also hope it makes more sense now as to why it restricts you (even if it still niggles ya!)

I hope you like your spaceship too ;)

You sent me a few questions about the game via PM and I have to admit, I did laugh when you said you couldn't sleep and started playing the game only to be up for another two hours!

    Sorry!

Yerzmyey is off to Japan in a day or so to do a gig there! I am insanely jealous!
He's a musical genius in my book, and a good friend :)

Also, as I mentioned before, the game's a nuclear nostalgia bomb - or at least I hope it is! :D

That is a lovely thing to say. The game's obviously heavily influenced by Jetpac, which is a classic for all Speccy fans I'd say!
That people who loved that game (and still have very fond memories of it after 30(!) years) choose to play my version is just beyond awesome!

    Thank you! :D

I was gonna ask you about the perks, but then I realised it might take some of the challenge away or make the scores funny.

I've gotten up to wave 33 so far, not in one run though lol, waiting for my ipad to charge up as I've utterly drained it playing this all day haha.

I wanted to ask, how many different characters/soundtracks/colors are there?

Indeed! I think as more perks are unlocked, people will hopefully begin to see why mixing and matching them at will might be a bit problematic!

Are you ready for this? ;)

There's 20 characters (+1 secret one I put in for my friend's 40th Birthday - she needs to see that first, obviously, but I'll fill you in on how to get it after that!).

    There's 11 music tracks *does a sheepydance*

There's 10 planets, with 10 waves each, and a boss at the end of each planet.

    There's 10 (I think!) colours.

    Edit: There's 16 perks too!

It's without doubt the biggest game I've made. The last year has been a roller coaster ride for me, and when I was making this I was getting extremely burnt out and thinking this would be my last game for iOS.

I need to branch out a bit and make games for Steam too, possibly consoles if anyone will take me!

I'd LOVE to make 3D games as well as 2D ones too!

As a result, I wanted to thank you lovely lot by leaving you with a game that would keep you playing for ages (I hoped!) and just bring a smile to your face when you play it :)

Fortunately(?), I can't stop wanting to make more games. It's crazy. While going through all the hassle of submitting SOS and having it rejected, I relaxed by starting another game ;)

So I'll still be here, but at the time I just wanted to cram everything I could into the game.

Though you seem to be burning through all that very quickly!

    I love this thread. :)

Yeah, I had the same initial thoughts about the perk system as Cyggy and psj, but reading QS' explanation above makes too much sense. Seriously, there doesn't seem to be a single thing that hasn't been thought out in the entire game! Bless your heart QS...I know you pour your...everything...into these games. <3 Also, kudos on essentially giving us 16 different ways to play the game (not counting the color/music/level/character combinations!!!!!!!!! O_O).

*shakes fist at JCho and Andy* Lucky *BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP*!!! Hahaha, must be awesome to have been immortalized in a video game guys! :D
